  • In this SUPboarder video we take a basic look at two of the most common SUP fins available on the market. Which fin is best for what? And are you using the best fin for your paddling needs? It's a simple thing but getting it right can make your paddleboard session a whole lot easier.

    Great video! So would you recommend putting the fin as far back as possible in the US Box for paddling in a straight line?

    Hi, I am hoping you can help. Are there any fins that would fit into a foil box? Not a Tuttle box. Thanks and love your videos 😎😎😎🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

    • @SUPboardermag

      Yeah a foil box is 2 US boxes side by side. So a single US box SUP fin would work. It would be off to one side but it would work. Thanks Reuben

    Where do you get the Aqua Marina swept back touring fin from, I cant seem to find a slide in touring/race fin in the uk?

      @SUPboardermag  Před 5 lety +1

      Hey Lee. Any UK shop that stocks AQ should be able to get hold of the fin. Probably just worth a email to the shop. At the same time, ask them to get a few in stock as Im sure they will sell them now! Thanks Reuben

    Great video. If you were to add this fin to a board to improve tracking would you leave the side fins in or take them out? I have a starboard whopper

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey barbus, Yeah I would get rid of the side fins if you are going for a bigger fin for flat-water. This will reduce drag and be faster to paddle. thanks Reuben

    Where to get that slide-in touring fin? I'm looking for one for my fiancée's board, but can't find it anywhere. Checked some (many) webshops, but nothing, mostly they don't even sell slide-in fins, just US box. I see the AM logo on this one you showing, but AM doesn't sell it separately as far as I found. THX

  • @jamessnell2309
    @jamessnell2309 Před rokem

    Good stuff. Just wondering why you didn't touch on the big difference in speed and drag between the two profiles. With so much more chord length at root and tip, that's a whole lot more drag on the big fin, surely. So the swept back fin will be a lot faster. Therefore, is it really right to be saying that the bigger fin is the better one for longer distance paddling?

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  Před rokem

      Hey James very good point.. What you are saying is correct but if you have to change sides with your paddle more often then you wont be as fast anyway. For most paddlers beginner to intermediate, a longer more sweptback fin will be much easier for them to paddle longer distances and allow them to get to the end destination quicker. But you are right there is always a compromise. Hope that makes sense. Thanks Reuben

    Hi I have the Gladiator fin which is quite bendy, would \i be better with a stiffer fin?

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  Před rokem

      It will slightly improve your paddling. You may not notice a huge difference on an iSUP, but there are advantages to having a stiffer fin, tracking and control being the main ones.

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  Před rokem +1

      hey Bharat. You are after the fin in the right of the feature image. A fin with as much surface area as possible to help with your balance.
      But remember the fin will help but if you're struggling to stand the board may also be too small. Thanks Reuben

    Need some advice from you guys, i'm looking for an inflatable touring board that i can take on holiday and go on multiple (2-3 day) trips, I've been looking at the red's explorer range and starboard touring range, i'm completely stuck on which to choose, however both of those options are super pricey for me and I've only just graduated, are there any other touring inflatables you would recommend that are as good as the red/starboard but for a lower budget?
    Im 6'1 80KG, I've been supping for 2 years now, so no need for very stable boards, I would like something fast and efficient with a bit of room for gear but that can take me 50km+ as im planning to cross the English channel next year for charity.
    Thanks in advance for your help!

      @@SUPboardermag UK, Thanks for the response! Ultimately the question is if i should just wait a little and buy a red/starboard board or if the cheaper ones are actually as good. So SUP shops let you test them out before you buy them?

    • @SUPboardermag
      @SUPboardermag  Před 5 lety

      @@gwerkcules2752 Its a tough one, but I guess its how long you will have to wait to save up for it. The Red And Starboard are great boards and very nice overall packages. But the boards like the Itiwit are great value and well made too. But you will have to buy and pump and the bag isn't as good as a Red or Starboard. Sorry I cant give you an answer of what one to buy. What board do you really like the look of? Reuben
