  • Howdy Folks and welcome. I hope you're doing well! Today we'll be talking about an okay game, Emperor Battle for dune, made by westwood studios, the creators of Command and Conquer.
If you played C&C, then you'll know how to play Emperor BFD, its a fun game, but what sets it apart is the amazing cutscenes and factions that encompass the three factions. We even get to see some fan favorite actors come back like HBO actors.
It's a fun ride and I hope you enjoy watching, it was a lot of fun to play and make the video.
    Hope this catches you well.
    All the best,
    Dog Dad Studios

Howdy Folks and welcome! Thanks for stopping by, even though it is a "Directive..." This was an okay game, filled with amazing live action cutscenes and some solid gameplay. I love Westwood's vision of DUNE. It would be great to hear from you, if you ever played this game or heard about it? Or your thoughts on the video. Again thanks so much, and I hope this finds you well!

Very good video! I hope the youtube algorithms favor you :).
House Ordos was a Westwood Studio special first introduced in Dune 2. They are now part of the Dune Encyclopedia, but never the books. Whereas Atreides were the good guys (air power, ability to tap into the Fremen alliance), and Harkonnen (Nukes and heavy/strong weapons) were the bad guys, the Ordos were a weaker mercantile faction that focused on mercenaries and subterfuge. They have always been the 'hardest' faction to play IMO because they were the least conventional. I liked them most in Dune 2 simply because they were green :).

Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this and for your words to mean so much, I cannot express how much it means to me. Thank you again for feeling comfortable sharing this and explaining the lore; as a person that got into the story because of the newer Movies, it's always insane to hear about the wider universe, just like in LOTR. I hope this finds you well.

Westwood's last hurrah, my first westwood game, my introduction to the dune universe.
    For me it was
    The goody two shoes atredies
    The shady ordos
    The metal harkonnen.
The soundtrack is probably the best of any rts game, and significantly better than many other games.
I most like the harkonnen brothers showdown level. It's amazing
Also if you like dune lore a youtuber 'Quinn's Ideas' makes great videos on it and other science fiction universes.

To be more specific this is a direct sequal to the events of Dune 2000 (where the emporer is killed by his concubine).
The art and lore of Dune 2000 & Emporer is heavily inspired by the David Lynch film (i.e. heart plugs, still suits, etc.)
While House Ordos is an in lore faction they dont feature much if at all in the books.
The Tekaxu on the other hand....

@@Dog.Dad.Studios yeah, played them growing up. Amazing games for their time, but Dune 2 is somewhat tedious going back to it now. No group select (that appeared with WarCraft), so you would move your units one at a time.
I think the original Dune has aged better being primarily an adventure game with a strategy element.

You seem to be missing some context here, the Westwood games are heavily inspired by David Lynch’s Dune, which were way more trippy and fanciful than Denis’ interpretation. The Emperor Worm with tiny hands was also taken from God Emperor Leto Atreides (son of Paul) from the original books.

Apparently so and adds to the “Shakespearen” aspect of these live action scenes. I’m surprised no one has talked about this. As a former teacher, these FMV videos are probably equivalent to modern day video and up there with acting in Shakespearean scripts. Thanks for commenting!

I like Emperor a lot but I'm not sure if I prefer it to Dune II/Dune 2000. House Ordo is my preferred house followed by Atriedes. Ordos is my favorite because they don't feel obligated to follow the absurd limits on technology the Imperium imposed. While some restrictions are logical given that humanity had just won a war where most human worlds had been long ruled by machines IMO the level of restriction went far beyond reason. I've read, watched, or played a lot of stories involving humanity fighting wars against machines and I'm having trouble thinking of any where the post war government took the tech limits as far as Dune did for good reason.
Besides I have a soft spot for Techie type characters and factions. In a game setting where such groups are very hard to find I'll take what I can and this is one of the rare Westwood strategy games where a faction I like or at least don't hate due to lore, and the faction with my preferred units and tactical style match.

@@Dog.Dad.Studios The big question if memory serves is could even the Imperium claim Windows 11 works like a human mind.. And and its been a long time since I read the books but I that's the main limit. Machines that function like a human mind are forbidden. Of course what kind of capabilities are considered too human, and the lengths they go to in order to create humans capable of matching the abilities of computer systems for things like information storage and calculation show they are out of touch with reality. Still I have a hard time imagining how anyone could consider Windows 11 human like.

It's a great game but the missions get very repetitive in the late game and all the 'political intrigue' and faction wooing goes out of the window in the final mission, so it's totally pointless in the end. That's a real shame.
