What is negative space and how do artists use it? Todays video will answer these questions and give you three projects using negative space to practice what you have learned.
Negative space is the space around and between objects. Some artists use negative space as their subject, most use negative space to emphasize their subject. If you want to draw objects accurately, paying attention to the negative space can help you get your proportions and shapes more correct as you pay attention to what is in front of you and really observe it.

Paint Negative space black
Choose an object or group of objects
Draw the negative space
Paint/color it black
Project 2
Negative Space sliced and Reverse
Draw the negative space
Divide the drawing in half with a line
One one side paint negative space black
On the opposite side paint the positive space black
Project 3
Cut out negative space
Draw the negative space
Cut out the negative space with an xacto knife
