    Bryce Young had a terrible rookie season, but he has a chance to turn it around. Quarterback Sam Darnold is in the best position he's ever been in to succeed in the NFL. I also like receiver Quentin Johnston and maybe Jaguars Edge Rusher Travon Walker for breakout seasons. What about Justin Fields & Zach Wilson???

      My opinion is that people want to hold onto the original narrative of a player for a long time so Trevor Lawrence was considered a generational prospect so his year was “simply a fluke” while Bryce Young didn’t have that same hype so his is considered worse. Also the gap between him and Stroud’s season doesn’t help

      But entman had severe knee injuries. I think he had two his rookie season and he just couldn’t recover. It wasn’t talent or motivation that held entman back, it was bad luck.

    I don’t think it’s fair to judge a player as a bust until at least their 3rd season. Young was basically set up to fail with a rotation of head coaches, a mediocre and injured offensive line, a poor run game, and the fact his number one receiver was 33 year old Adam Thielen. He went to the worst situation a QB could go to. No QB could succeed in that environment.

    • @oneofthe12sionmains70
      @oneofthe12sionmains70 Před 8 dny

      He also was an abysmal QB, if it wasn’t for Desmond Ridder he’d be the worst by far. The only half decent game he had was against a Joe Barry defense. The situation was bad but halfway decent quarterbacks make it work regardless, and DON’T go 1-16

    • @cadeo.1265
      @cadeo.1265 Před 8 dny +2

      I don’t know, Trevor Lawrence also had an abysmal rookie season under incompetent coaching and he’s pulled it together to be a decent starter the last couple of years. Bryce's celling is definitely Tua. They're both Alabama QBs with bad mechanics and previous success holding them back. The only reason Jalen is better than them is because he went to Oklahoma and learned how to play to his own strengths, not rely on a supporting cast. Bryce can legitimately be a decent top 15 Qb in this league if he plays his cards right, especially by improving his mechanics. You can see this by putting Bryce in any other system in this league, say the browns, and he'd be getting rookie of the year praise. Its not on him.

    14:59 I've heard several analysts/pundits share your position, that Justin Fields should be a good fit for Arthur Smith's offense.
    It's worth noting that in Arthur's first year as the Head Coach of the Falcons (2021) he could have selected Justin Fields at number 4 overall, but instead chose to select Kyle Pitts. This doesn't mean that Coach Smith necessarily hates Justin Fields, but he couldn't have liked him that much since he chose to draft a Tight End over a potential franchise Quarterback.

    Walker was always a developmental pick, so far the jags have been right, year 3 is huge tho. Ten sacks is very good production and if he stays at that mark you can’t hate the pick - but Jax definitely saw walker as a 15+sack guy after several years of development. Very interested to see if that comes to fruition.

    What makes the Bryce Young situation particularly brutal is the draft compensation involved.
    If Carolina just stayed put in '23 they could have got someone at #10 like Jahmyr Gibbs, Jax Smith-Njigba, Sam LaPorta, ect. Take their lumps in '23, then they probably would be going into week 1 of this year with Caleb Williams under Center! Plus the other draft picks they would have kept from the trade.
    *And either keep DJ Moore or trade elsewhere.
    Because of all that, the baggage. And the obvious fact that they could have taken CJ Stroud instead.. Bryce is definitely going to have extra scrutiny on him lol.
    Dudes gotta show some major growth and on his own be able to be the difference in games. Otherwise it's always going to look like the Bears won the trade in a big way.

    I'll be fair to Bryce Young, having a terrible rookie year isn't a kiss of death. Just look at Trevor Lawrence. He was abysmal his rookie year and just signed a deal worth up to 275 million. He probably doesn't deserve that much, but hey he still convinced the Jags to pay him.
    Give a guy a solid 3 years before moving on I say, unless they're spectacularly bad.

    Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame QB Troy Aikman as a rookie: 0-11 as a starter, 155 of 293 (52.9% completion percentage) for 1,749 yards, 9 TD's, 18 INT's, with a passer rating of 55.7. Another #1 overall QB that had a rough rookie season was John Elway, they benched him for Steve DeBerg at one point. Denver even spent a first round pick on Elway's would be successor Tommy Maddox in 1992. Terry Bradshaw was well on his way to becoming a bust before a Joe Flacco like playoff performance en route to the Steelers first Super Bowl win saved his career.

    Kadarius Toney is a 1st round bust. He’s dangerous for both teams with the ball in his hands
    Mecole Hardman is not a bust. He was drafted to be a WR3 which he did great at his first 3 years. Having between 550-700 yards each year. Year 4 he was on pace for career highs until when he got hurt a game after scoring 3 TD’s.
    Skyy Moore won’t come close to breaking out. It’s almost mean to mention him at this point

    I feel this year will be an important year for short king QBs in particular. For a long time short QBs didn't get a fair shake, 6'0'' was basically considered the cut off point, and even that was still shorter then most would like but players like Joe Theismann, Michael Vick, and Drew Brees to name a few confirmed playing at a high level at 6'0'' was possible. Still we basically never saw anyone below that get consideration until the early success of 5'11'' Russel Wilson, a QB who fall specifically because of his height, changed the perception and led to players like Kyler Murray (5'10'') and Bryce Young (5'10") not just getting a shot, but being taken first overall. However, in recent years its beginning to look more and more like Russel may have benefitted more from a defense and run game then people used to attribute to his success, and not only has Kyler under performed through 5 years, but Bryce is looking like a bust after just 1.
    All of which is to say, if neither Kyler nor Bryce turns thing around this year, I think that could spell doom for any other 5'10 QBs in college or high school right now, or at the least put them in a position similar to Russel where they'll both need to look leagues above their taller QB competition, and still fall in the draft and fight to be given a shot at starting. While Wilson's struggles late in his career shouldn't cause his early career success to be ignored, it does undermine his numbers at least a little bit, enough that if we don't see at least one short king QB perform at a high level, it could have significant ramifications on how height is viewed at the QB position for years to come.
