One Wednesday afternoon in 1995 I was reading a local paper in Northern Ireland. I read about a guy who was playing a gig that night in Belfast. He said his influences were Mississippi John Hurt and Lightnin' Hopkins. Two of my favourites so I thought I would have to check him out. The guy playing was Chris Smother and he just blew me away. I have since that night seen him well over a dozen times. So happy to see something so recent and even happier to see that he is still great. Thanks for posting.
I saw Chris in the mid nineties. He was wearing a blond shirt and playing a blue guitar his hair was the same he just has a bit more wisdom in his eyes! Really good stuff. Just discovered Sierra. I expect to har more of her!
The legendary Blue Guitar - an Alvarez Yairi DY88. I managed to get one! I sound NOTHING like Mr Smither - that fluid "make it look easy" playing (when it isn't!) is amazing....and that voice! What a man!!

Sierra is one of my favorite musical geniuses that I have found hereon UTube. Others include Shaye Cohn and her extraordinary NOLA Tuba Skinny band, Sissal, - the Norwegian nightingale, the late Eva Cassidy (a tragedy). I saw Sierra in Clearwater with just her great bassist shortly after she had turned 25 and could finally rent a car (her quip, not mine). She is lovely in all regards, except for that 5 carat rock she started wearing recently. As if I had a chance!! Saw her go head to head with Sam Bush when she was 8, on WoodSongs.
