  • After starting to get pain from the repetitive motion of hitting off a mat I decided to make a hitting strip to see if it would help.

    Good to see DIY hitting strip issues covered. I use this system with used hockey 3G carpet cut into strips added in, with a used winter 2M *2M strike mat , with 40MM PU foam. 40cm wide , 80cm insert.
    Away better softer 3G carpet grass is strike designed anyway. Durable too. To be honest you can go any standing area quality now and focus on the strike strip.

      Thanks for that mate! So you just use the hockey 3G mat as your hitting turf? I’ll check it out now 👍

      Thanks mate I would recommend it if you plan on playing a lot of golf as it really takes the pressure off the joints 👍

    Looks very good, glad you are doing this to avoid further injury, no one needs that. I did something very similar for my hitting strip. I used the Country Club Elite 1x3, which gets good reviews and known for its wear resistance. The issue is, it does give much especially against concrete. So I used hard gym mate around the perimeter the same height as stand mat. So in the middle of the hitting strip about 6-7" is hollow area. It works fantastic. My buddies thinks it play true - especially for fat shots! 😅

      That's a really good idea with the gym mat! Thanks for the the comment and definitely something I'll think about doing in the future

    I have found that tubular pipe insulation .... the gray lengths that are split down the side, closed cell foam......works for the under backing.
    One must slice them lengthwise leaving you with a "half circle end view".... and cut to proper length. Available at most hardware outlets.

      Thanks for that. I'll be sure to check that out. Cheers!

    I’m looking for the same in Australia and will try the kaizen. It may need the foam on the bottom to be added as yours has

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Před rokem

      Hey Adrian yes I agree I did think about doing the kaizen and then adding the foam but then in the end I just thought I’d give it a go and do a whole strip instead. I would be really interested to see how the Kaizen strip goes in terms of turf longevity.. The turf I got is wearing quite quickly even though it looked like a decent putting turf that was 15mm.

    Have you noticed any changes in your launch angle for irons on your hitting strip vs your old setup?

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Před rokem

      Hey mate no not for me it's all very consistent and accurate. I can see how people may have launch angle issues though. If you hit slightly behind the ball the mat will compress this happens so quick that the ball will be suspended in mid air when you hit it. Because of this the ball will strike the top of the club face and because of gear effect and club face twist you will have more dynamic loft causing a higher Vertical Launch Angle and lower spin.
      Have you noticed VLA increase?

  • @ignaciogonzalezdominguez5968

    Hello Joe, I do not want to make an insert in my mat either. I think is a great idea to put it outside the mat at the same height, but I am wondering how do you manage to prevent the strip moves when you hit it. Thanks in advance!.

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Před 6 měsíci

      Hey mate sorry for the late reply! So on the end bits and down the sides in certain places I used double sided tape to hold it in place. You will see now in my recent videos I bit the bullet and just cut a section out of my mat and honestly I don't regret it. The strip outside did work however it was using a lot of material and the insert I now use is more compact and sits in the mat nicely.

    Can I get a link to the soft foam? I’ve made one myself, but it doesn’t seem to give at all for me, it’s kind of harsh, so I need a softer foam I think.

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Před 7 měsíci

      Yeah it definitely sounds like you need softer foam. Honestly the foam really is only there for added support and to also add a little bit of resistance. I can't send you a link as I went into the actual store and bought it after I felt a few different ones. It's definitely more of a softer foam think dishwashing sponge 🧽 feel. Hope that helps!

    Hi Joe, any chance you can provide either a link or name for both the foam and acrylic? Looking to replicate this. Cheers!

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hey mate what you want it this polycarbonate. It's much stronger and woke crack and the price is really good. You can also do custom sizes!
      www.acrylicsonline.com.au/products/clear-polycarbonate-sheet-3mm
      For the foam I just went to Clark rubber.. depending on the size or height you need will determine the foam you get. Also you want to get a foam that will give a bit but not too much so like a medium density... Just have a feel of them and you will know what's right. You're better off going a little softer than too hard or it just wont give.
      This is the best thing I've done! The hardest part is finding a putting turf that's durable! I've been through a few different types now and it turns out the best one is the one I found just down the road from me. But I'm still on the hunt for anything more durable!
      Cheers

    Hi Joe, i alway watch you videos and enjoy them. I’m hoping you can help me i have a friend in the states who can get me a gc2 for under $3000 aus. wondering if you have any regrets or would do anything different? comparing it to gc3 $11,000 and uneekor mini $8000-8500 ? wanting to run gspro. Thanks in advance

    • @JLagGOLF
      @JLagGOLF  Před rokem

      Hey Clints absolutely zero regrets getting my GC2 I absolutely love it. If money was no option I would get the GC3 out of those 3.. I would love to try the eye mini but it is almost impossible to get in Aus right now.. I think there is only one company that even has it listed but I don't see a price anywhere. $3000 is an absolute steal and in my opinion too cheap!! Haha 😂 there is actually one for sale at the moment in Adelaide for 4000. I paid 5000 for mine. I bought mine before the eye mini was released so I guess that's the price drop recently. You just have to make sure the Bluetooth is working and that is has the new flashboard that supports the Andy flashes.
      The thing with GC2 is insane accuracy and no subscription costs..
