- Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday, October 5, that Ukraine would have a “week to live” if arms supplies from Western countries were to end the next day.
Putin made the remarks during an hours-long live-streamed press conference at the annual Valdai Discussion Club event in Sochi, Russia, while responding to a question from Mikhail Rostovsky, a long-time columnist for Russian state media outlets, about whether Putin would object to Ukraine joining the European Union.
Putin said he would not object, as the EU is an economic alliance and not a military alliance like NATO. He went on to say that neither Ukraine’s economy nor its military defenses could exist without foreign support.
“Imagine, if deliveries stop tomorrow, they would only have a week to live until the ammunition runs out,” Putin said, according to machine translations of a Kremlin-published transcript and an English translation voice-over on the Kremlin’s footage.

The difference between them is that for the US, Ukraine is not a key strategic interest as it isn’t a security concern for them. However it is a serious security interest for Russia and therefore Russia won’t back down, and is willing to fight a long war. Putin is betting the Americans will eventually get tired of aiding the Ukrainians (as it’s not a key interest) and will want to negotiate. Which is likely to happen, as there have been multiple pushes from US generals for this already, but Zelenskyy is unwilling to partake.

The countries that they import food and materials from will stop....... USA has been giving less and less aid in comparison to other NATO countries recently, and Ukrainian forces have also reclaimed a decent percentage of the Russian held front lines semi-recently.
I understand the negative outlook. Its a near-proxy war, if not just a full blown proxy war. It will be the same with our support to Taiwan, and is the same with France in Africa right now. But this is a war Americans can be proud to support, unlike so many that we've had before.
Putin started the war for no other reason than to get the minerals, oil and gas of Ukraine. With its fertile soil, Ukraine was able to become a prosperous nation and Putin had to stop it because Capitalism in Ukraine might make Russia look bad.

Even today amidst war Ukrainian wages are technically higher than in Russia, but if you compare them to local prices - it's absolutely the other way around.

You should definitely check the civilian to military casualty ratio. In modern warfare, it's usually around 10:1, but in this war, it was like 9:1. I feel like it's more brutal to kill more civilians than having more people directly involved in the conflict dying.

2nd - By far the largest share of loans, financial aid and development aid is provided by the EU.
3rd - If Ukraine loses the war and Russia gains more influence, power & land, it will cost the US a lot more in the long run. Furthermore, it would send a terrible signal to America's other opponents, such as China, and would make the USA look weak internationally.
4th - if Ukraine wins, they will owe much of it to the US and would be forever indebted, and USA would gain a new ally right on Russia's doorstep.
With this policy (After WWII), the USA managed to bind countries such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Germany to itself and are now very loyal allies of America.
You have to look at things in the long run and what benefits it will bring to America in the LONG TERM.

There are different opinions about what is right. The only people who benefit from this war are the arms industry, banks and construction companies. 1) article 5 will eventually be triggered causing american lives to be at risk, and cost even more.
2) half the reason the us is rich is because its the global reserve. Its the global reserve because countries agreed to use the us dollar in exchange for protection agreements and trade security.
This jeprodizes that. If people have no reason to use the us dollar it loses a lot of value.
3) a tonne of the aid was expiring weaponry. A large remainder of the budget is raised then spent on us soil generating jobs and taxes to then ship the weapons over.
This is a fantastic deal for the usa.

Because Ukraine gets weapons from all the countries in the West. Hear all NATO countries plus 24 others give to Ukraine, that's 54 countries give to Ukraine. Russia gets from those we know about Iran, China, India, North Korea and Belarus. Other countries are Vietnam, the Maldives, Djibouti and Myanmar. There are 9 countries, a total of maybe 15 countries, which is nothing compared to what the West provides.
Russia is more or less a self reliant country. Ukraine basically gets everything from the US.
