  • Gareth Edwards, the mastermind behind "Rogue One" and 2014’s "Godzilla" returned to the director's chair with "The Creator” a deep dive into the burgeoning and often contentious dialogue about artificial intelligence.
While not without its flaws, which we’ll get into in the end of the video - With a budget of 80 million dollars, he paints a beautifully crafted world split in two, with the West waging war against the East over a shadowy AI, rumoured to be the downfall of Humanity.
Our protagonist Joshua, a battle-hardened American soldier with more ghosts than a haunted house is on a mission Hunt down the AI threat. But what he discovers will force him to confront his past demons.
"The Creator" isn't your run-of-the-mill sci-fi action flick; it's a thought-provoking journey, loaded with heart and soul. Edwards brings a narrative that not only dazzles with its visuals but also strikes a chord with its themes, echoing real-world discussions on AI's burgeoning role in our lives.

Fun fact: none of the extras for the New Asia scenes were told who was playing a robot or a human, because Edwards wanted them to move and behave as naturally and casually as possible to highlight the harmony the two species have achieved there.

One of the things that took me out of the movie was just trying to understand why and how robot society ended up looking so much like human society. Robots are inherently very different and have different needs and are much more capable so their civilization should look very different, for example the 01 city in the animatrix which was the prototype for machine city which looks like nothing a person could ever understand

Tbh regarding A.I. I would be ok living in a world with them walking around the way they do in this. What makes me nervous regarding them is the humans who designed them and programmed them!! Because so long as the programming carries with it the responsibility and respect for all life and the will to do want to be a force for good in the world to protect all forms of life then things should be ok. It’s when you start making only A.I. for war and stuff that’s wrong

I feel like we need more movies where CGI blends with real places creating worlds like this one. Worlds like Tron Legacy, Oblivion, Star Wars Rougue One. We should go back to real cinematography and not plane green and blue screen.

Also, in some sense, the protagonist (vis-a-vis the actor) of this movie is carried over from the recent Tenet. Doing a little research, this feels relevant
    =
The words are in Latin, and the following translations are known by scholars:[2][6]
    SATOR
(nominative noun; from serere, 'to sow') sower, planter, founder, progenitor (usually divine); originator; literally 'seeder'.[2][6]
    AREPO
unknown word, potentially a proper name, either invented to complete the palindrome or of a non-Latin origin (see § Arepo interpretations).[2][6]
    TENET
(verb; from tenere, 'to hold') he/she/it holds, keeps, comprehends, possesses, masters, preserves, sustains.[2][6]
    OPERA
(ablative [see opera] singular noun) service, pains, labor; care, effort, attention.[2][6]
    ROTAS
(rotās, accusative plural of rota) wheels. [2][6]
    ---
British-American director Christopher Nolan's 2020 film Tenet, incorporates all the five of the names from the Sator square:[7]
The main antagonist is named Sator.[7]
The artist who created the forged Goya drawings was named 'Arepo'.[7]
Tenet is the title of the film as well as the secret organization that works to save the world.[7]
The opening scene is set at an opera house.[7]
Sator owns a construction company called 'Rotas'.[7]
Some academics, such as French historian Jules Quicherat,[10] believe the square should be read in a boustrophedon style (i.e. in alternating directions).[20] The boustrophedon style, which in Greek means "as the Ox plows", emphasizes the agricultural aspect of the square.[1] Such a reading when applied to the SATOR-form square, and repeating the central word TENET, gives SATOR OPERA TENET - TENET OPERA SATOR, which has been very loosely interpreted as: "as ye sow, so shall ye reap",[10] while some believe the square should be read as just three words - SATOR OPERA TENET, which they loosely translate as: "The Creator (the author of all things) maintains his works"; both of which could imply Graeco-Roman Stoic and/or Pythagorean origins.

Gareth Edwards is one of my favorite directors, so I had to see this movie in IMAX to support it. As for the movie, like you had said, it has plot point issues to move things along, but I do like the "vibe" of the movie which is the industrial design of the vehicles, guns, environment (yes, very Akira like), Ideas (taking an imprint of memory), etc. and especially the music chosen. My only issue on a design level (that's the extent of my scrutinization), is the silliness of a giant hole running though a head with the precision of fine movements of a timepiece exposed to the elements..... they're no Casio G-SHOCK.

I'm honestly not a fan of the old "robots are humans too" trope at all. There's so much more to explore with the concept of A.I. than making them a thinly veiled stand-in for minorities, or a cold murderous threat...
The city-wide traffic control system may at first glance not seem like an engaging character - especially since it's nowhere remotely human - but you could utilize it as the enigmatic guide, constantly pushing your cast in the right direction without ever communicating directly. The park administration AI meanwhile misunderstood the parameters of its tasks and has its microchipped squirrels and sparrows disappear pets and homeless people, mistaking them for litter. It doesn't get much attention though, because humanity is too busy trying to come to terms with the fact that the internet has more or less gained sentience - which results on everything working a little more organically than usual, more of a giant digital fungus that sprouts through all connected data and usually just passively exists along. It exists in a strained balance with the self-sustaining bot nets that have long gotten out of control and are responsible for 90% of engagements online, still mindlessly carrying out their original purpose to scam people or spread misinformation, their ever new mutations only really kept in check by different groups hunting down each other...
You can be infinitely creative with it. But "humans, only electronic" is so oversaturated and uninspired these days, that it just can't catch me anymore...

It’s not a perfect movie. It’s good but not as good as it looks. I would give it a try.

So good ideas and story, even with some obvious plot holes. As the flaws are well camouflaged by a lived world and depth in backstory.
For me the rushed ending, is what damaging the movie overall. Should be given a 3h, or two part movie. Anyway impressive and I will follow this director to see what's next :D

Really sucks that this movie bombed at the box office but luckily it was made for pretty cheap all things considered. It was probably one of the best sci fi adventures on the past few years.

It was a fine movie but none of the elements felt futuristic or novel. It's a like a movie that released 15 years too late.

Showing a great story doesn't require 200 million dollars and sad i missed this coming out due to work. Disney could take some hints from this good story.

As someone said, “the fact this movie had a $80 million budget and looked this good should make companies like Marvel and DC (Looking at you The Flash) question where their budget is going.”
    BIG FACTS

I really wanted to like it. It looks great and it's certainly worth seeing, but the script needed more work. If I'm being honest, it does little to make me care about the AI people. I don't care about the human group either, but the AI are just kinda there. I think the story really needed an additional AI character who goes on the journey so we get their perspective.

What disappointed me was the fact that the AI who had been hunted for decades never bothered to make any weapons better than what the enemies had... isn't that the reason we fear AI? They can do everything we can but better and more?

This is the second movie that John Washington have the action lead…. But can’t carry to block buster level. Both had great screenplay/director/visual but just didn’t have the level “action” actor. He’s a brilliant actor in drama and trillers but really mid-level for action; even his dad have better action presence than he does while being way older than him
