    19:34 there was an offer fromHollywood to make a movie about him but they wanted to make him Jewish so family refused. He was a Catholic Pole and for some reason Hollywood don't want to show them in the positive light.

      I remember an interview with Pilecki's son talking about that... It made me feel so mad about that. It was American Jewish community that pushed USA government not to help Polish Jews... many years later they want son of Pilecki to approve, that his father was a Jew, otherwise there would be no movie about that.

    There is a polish movie about him from 2015 called ''Pilecki,, and a lot of polish documentaries too. but because they are made in Poland and are in polish no one except the poles can watch them.
    p.s. He is Polish Capitan America. Also I heard once somewhere that Poles have as many Film worthy heroes as there are movies in Hollywood and thinking about this, The number isn't that far off.

    Just as additional comment, Pilecki in one of his last letters wrote that Auschwitz, in comparison to communist prison, was childs play. That just puts things into perspective, he was held there for almost a year, and did not give up any valuable information. Amazing hero and unbelievable story

    Interestingly, the camp actually still exists, the USSR gave the camp back to the polish government in 1947 which they turned into a state museum and then later in the 1970s became a world heritage site. While sites like this a depressing, it is important to remember what happened.

    the trials were about the limit of the human body, including tests like "how much pressure does it take for someone to actually bend over backwards, until the spine goes snap", "how much pressure do you need until a human skull pops like a dropped melon", the invetion of the femur-breaker torture device, or just enough torture to get information out of anyone by cutting their fingers into slices and pouring salt on the fresh open wound.

      @@sharischoll9411 Theft of property, murder and grape was quite common in those internment camps. Particularly against the Japanese, many of whom were Japanese Americans. Different camps DID have different experiences depending on who was in charge of them, but non-brutal treatment was definitely the uncommon occurence. Especially with the hate and racism towards the Japanese that was intilled after Pearl Harbor, whom many Americans was told and believed to be an unprovoked surprise attack. Whether it was or wasn't is a different discussion.

    Unlike you guys, I was lucky enough to have an amazing history teacher (proves what how important great teacher are) so I've always been interested in History, I didn't know of this Hero before Sabaton, also a lot these "history lessons" are from all over the World which is why we don't know that much about it. And Sabaton besides some of the more well known stories like D-day also tries to pick out the Unsong Heroes. As you mentioned if you look just a month back, you had a different look upon Poland and their resistance / fighting spirit vs. the Nazis, because of the Western propaganda. And this is also one of the reasons they are HUGE in Poland and deservingly so. I'm not polish so I can't say all this for certain but this is what I've heard from some of my online friends from Eastern Europe. And just try and imagine about the stories that are not told about all over the World. I mean there without a doubt several American heros / act of heroism I don't haven't heard about despite Hollywood, and their influence. Anyway I'm rambling on, and you mentioned a reaction about this song :)

      Central Europe, not Eastern. You call us Eastern because of Yalta Conference, where FDR and Churchill gave Poland to Stalin, but historically Poland is the very essence of Central Europe - the place where West and East meet. Also just look at the map, calling Poland EE makes no sence as the continent strenches thousands of miles further east.

  • @kamil7280
    @kamil7280 Před 11 měsíci +1

    About Pilecki being captured "by his own". Well, that's much more complicated. It was a puppet Soviet regime. Lots of those in power - officers, politicians, judges, prosecutors and so, and so, were either soviet agents - Russians, some with Polish roots, knowing language, or people trained in Moscow, or shady people taking great benefit from serving occupants. There is also a bit sad episode that a lot of those in power at the time had Jewish-Soviet background (which later caused friction between those in power which resulted in some bloody events, and exile of Communists of Jewish origin to Israel and power takeover by another communist party ). Anyway those who captured him by no matter can be called Polish - they served Soviet Union and there was still legit Polish Government on Exile in the UK. They by no mean are seen today as traitors, enemies of Polish nation and by no mean can be call "his own" when talking about Pilecki.

  • @samoht.p

    He was not captured by his men. From 1945 - 1989, Poland was under Russian occupation. There was a Polish state on paper, but all the services, the authorities were Russian, who harassed Poles and prosecuted anyone who served in the Polish Army or was active in the resistance movement. Pilecki's Russian services captured him and the Russian services shot him. After regaining freedom in the 1990s, Poles rehabilitated what the Soviets had done. We Poles are still looking for Witold Pilecki. You must know that after losing the war with Germany in 1945, we waged a war with the Soviets until 1989. Of course, it was a war of a different nature, because there was surveillance everywhere, including torturing Polish citizens. So we had to go underground again and build Poland from scratch.
