The Chosen is an American Christian historical drama television series created, directed and co-written by filmmaker Dallas Jenkins. It is the first multi-season series about the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth. Primarily set in Judaea and Galilee in the 1st century, the series centers on Jesus and the different people who met and followed or otherwise interacted with him. The series stars Jonathan Roumie as Jesus, alongside Shahar Isaac, Elizabeth Tabish, Paras Patel, Noah James, and George H. Xanthis. Noticing that there had never been a multi-season, episode-based portrayal of Jesus that could be "binge-watched" like shows on streaming mediums such as Netflix, Jenkins intended the show to differ from previous portrayals of Jesus by crafting a story arc that focused more deeply on the people who encountered Jesus and viewing him through their eyes. He wanted to present Jesus in a way that was more "personal, intimate, and immediate".
The producers have used innovative methods for finance and release, primarily through crowdfunding. Fundraising for the first season[3][4] as well as subsequent ones continues to make The Chosen the most successful crowdfunded TV series or film project. As of 2021, viewers had contributed $40 million towards its production. In late 2022, the creators partnered with a new nonprofit company, the Come and See Foundation, to manage funding, which allows contributors to receive a tax deduction for their contribution.
In addition to crowdfunding and the pay-it-forward model, revenue is also generated through several other methods. The show is licensed to other streaming platforms and TV networks, such as Amazon Prime Video, Peacock, and Netflix. Merchandise and video sales provide additional sources of revenue, as have limited premiere runs in cinemas. The show has been further adapted into a series of novels by Jenkins's father, author Jerry B. Jenkins, a series of graphic novels by Corvus Comics, and companion Bible study materials published by David C. Cook. New episodes are released for free on the Angel Studios website and app and are later made available through various streaming platforms. Some episodes, particularly season debuts and finales, have been released in theaters before coming out for free. According to an analysis commissioned by the producers, 108 million had seen at least part of the show as of 2022. Translation into as many as 600 languages is being funded by the Come and See Foundation.

The Chosen, LLC makes just enough money to pay their hundreds of cast and crew, and then to produce the next season. Less than 5% of the people who watch The Chosen free, actually give financial on-going support. The only way they can keep going is to make the Seasons theatrical first, monies they receive from their gift store which is evangelistic in it’s mission as everything has a message, and then with faithful givers. The delay of Season 4 is not The Chosen’s fault. Sadly, they’ve had to delay due to trying to work out some legal issues with Angel studios. Let’s continue to pray for a redemptive resolve, and be patient together for the release. It should be available within the next few weeks, per Dallas. No one is getting rich here, and we have to understand that it takes millions to make this series! It’s been, and will continue to be, a miracle and great blessing to us all! ❤️👏

I watched a few episodes of LDS and really liked them.
The chosen is so important to this generation. The disability community have four faith with no ability to read or hear properly.
I’m so amazed to see any Jesus lover not like this amazing Jesus loving helper.
Personally saved my life and so many domestic violence victims.
So many kids too young to read ir get educated in religion have used pain and dance for Jesus and love.
The wounded healer gave us a hero and as someone who has grown up in only bad religion aftermath is so thankful for both Angel and Chosen.
How the law stuff stops and no one gets hurt.

Now, they say Season 5 will be in theaters first....again! Those of us who cannot afford that are left with bits and pieces of the season and so many spoilers that nothing will be a surprise when it comes to the app. I donate what I can each month, but it appears that it the folks with big money who get all the perks, Chosen-Con, being extras, Teal Carpet and the Movie releases. I donate what I can and feel so many of us who are having a hard time making ends meet are left out. Its turned into a show that it's all about the $$$$$!

Yes, I paid to go see season 4 episodes 7 and 8. I could not watch the first 6 episodes in Theatres because it was too long to be away from my house. I have an elder Dog that needs to go out to go to the bathroom every hour. So, I could only stay in the Theatre for episode 7. It was killing me to leave at the beginning of episode 8, but my Dog takes priority. I am willing to pay for Season 4 to watch on an app in my own home, but when can we do that?
