  • If your key wont go in the ignition or if it goes in and wont come out I show how to temporary or permanently fix it depending on what you want to do.

Thanks @Hoopties for recording this. I just fixed my ignition (05 element) and wanted to share pointers. Be prepared to pull two roll pins. There's one holding the lock housing in and another holding the lock cylinder in place (the one you see drilled/pushed in this video). One thing you don't see in this video is that if the key is in the cylinder, and key can be rotated, the roll pin at the end of the lock cylinder will rotate and expose itself (no drilling required). I used a very small drill bit to extract both pins. Using you fingers only (no drill), feed the bit through the roll pin. Gently spin it until it "grabs". Once it grabs, firmly apply pressure and slowly wiggle and pull the pin out. Take your time here to avoid braking the bit. Once you get the lock cylinder out, identify which pins are sticking out (protruding). Using a Dremel and a grinding bit (I used aluminum Oxide), gently grind off the portion of each pin that protrudes beyond the surface of the cylinder. Do not grind the actual cylinder face. Go slow. The pins are spring loaded so you cant bear down on the surface while grinding as the springs will allow the pin to push back into the cylinder. Try to keep you grind profile in line with the original shape of the pin. This isn't difficult, just take your time and be patient. Once I ground down all the pins my original keys work like a charm! Gool luck!
