- In this video we follow the Whistling Ghost steam tour from Tyseley to Minehead on the West Somerset Railway. For this year's run we would see 46233 'Duchess Of Sutherland' at the head of the train, though with a late change in route due to gauging restrictions at Cheltenham, the tour would now go via Didcot and Swindon, which would significantly make the trip longer, but mean't a few more shots were possible.
The day starts off at Tyseley where we catch LMS Stalwart haul her 11 coach train up the steep climb out of Tyseley loco works with plenty off atmosphere on display. About one hour later we capture the Duchess departing across the rooftops of Leamington Spa.
A pathing stop at Oxford allowed us to jump ahead of the tour to Kennington which is on the outskirts of Oxford, once again the Duchess make a fine sight and sound. Heavy delays at Swindon due to a fire on a HST power car would delay the tour by one hour, which meant by we had a long wait at Cogload Juction.
By the time 46233 came into sight temperatures had risen considerably which meant very little steam was on offer.
With the Duchess swapping duties with WSR resident 6960 'Raveningham Hall' we get our first look at the GWR hall class at Crowcombe Heathfield where the class five is heard making a fine sound up Crowcombe Bank, though the the Hall's best was still to come.
The return leg from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard, is captured at Caslte Hill and Woolston with the modified hall sounding superb with her 9 coach train heading up the long bank from Williton to Crowcombe.
For the return leg behind the Duchess we capture her at Filton Abbey Wood, where she is seen easing off for a platform restriction, a shame as she sounded very well prior to easing off. Not wanting to end the day off at Filton Wood, we headed to Hatton station at the summit of Hatton Bank, where at 8 minutes past midnight we witness the power of one of Staniers
finest romping over the top after restarting on the 1/110 bank at Warwick Parkway after dropping passengers off, a very fitting way to finish the day off, and what a day it was capturing the sights and sounds of two fine locomotives on display and great to have such good weather !
Summer steam at it's finest, I hope you enjoy. - Auta a dopravní prostředky

I look forward to the coverage of the Whistling Ghost every year. Long may it continue
It's one the most popular summer trips, right up there with the Torbay Express and Royal Duchys !

Phew, what a long day for you both Liam, all great shots in a lovely variety of locations & exceptional weather........ That bush at Leamington needs to go though lol. Thanks as usual for a great effort & all your hard work producing such quality vids. Regards, Brian. (PS: You & John were right ..... I was at WM lol):
Thanks Brian. the highlights were definitely the start and end with the Duchess performing well all day.
Thanks for posting and your miles travelled getting those excellent shots.
Thanks Nigel, glad it all payed off.
Hi there and thanks for posting , when I saw 6960 teamed up with The Duchess ii thought I might be seeing the Hall double heading on the mainline even though 6960 hasn't got a mainline ticket ,we live in hope .
Hall classes are becoming rarer and rarer on the mainline and the only place to see them is on the Shakespeare Express.
Great results for your long day. Fantastic video and sound, many thanks.
Cheers Peter, a very good day indeed. Thanks as always.
Excellent - Great night time images as well. Thank you.
Thanks Brian, glad you liked it.
Nice video mate. And I like it. I head about the HST was on fire. i was at Swindon that day.
Another excellent video , it was perfect, you certainly got around, and much appreciated it is
THANK YOU
Thanks as always Ernest, glad you enjoyed it.
Wonderful opening & closing shots bookend it nicely!
Indeed, was great to start and end the day in such fashion.
Some good locations. Nice to see you again at Kennington. That spot at Leamington for the departure looked alright
Thanks Matt the Shot over the rooftops of Leamington is not as good as it used to be, but was still worth doing.
Some great sequences there. Must have been a greasy old bit of track in the opening one to cause all that slip. Thanks.
Thanks Laurie, the rail was bone dry, but the gradient is severe out of the depot and with a low speed restriction this can cause a few slips. The Castle has handled this section a lot better than than the big Pacific's which have recently been up.
Another great days filming Liam with lots of miles covered but with great results..
its such a shame the unit did not bloke me at hatton
