I butchered the pronunciation of Luxembourg throughout the video! Please do not crucify me! I’ve already been banned from München for drinking Weissbier out of the bottle! APOLOGIES ✌🏽
Just across the border there is Trier, which prides itself of being Germany's oldest city. It even was the capital of the West Roman Empire for some time and has amazing Roman architecture : The old city gate, Roman baths, and an amphitheatre. A must-visit city in Germany.
Hello I'm happy you enjoyed your time in Luxemburg City. It is 100% true the walk down to Grund is worth the effort. But a little tip if you ever come back and go straight at the bridge at 6:12 you'll find an elevator which takes you up to the cité judiciaires so you don't have to walk up if your tired. You were lucky have visited during the Schoberfouer. Which is the biggest fair in the country and dates back to medival times.
The fair you were visiting takes place annually since 500 years or so. My tip: Next time you are in Lux., please make sure to also visit the small town of Vianden.
3:55 that train is giving you a tour through the city and you can listen to it in different languages. It's giving you an idea on how live was what happened during some wars, etc. But there is an elevator going down to old Luxembourg. ;)
Why you pronoincing Luxembourg Lusenbog 😭😭👌 Nice vid btw glad you covered the place where i live. You missed out on a couple of things but i'm happy you enjoyed your time here! I hope you can visit Luxembourg again some time! PS: you just got another subscriber
Hey i am proud to call this city and country my home !!! it's a beautiful place, come for the castles, stay for the free transport :) EDIT : There is an elevator nearby you can take to go to the bottom also. It's free :)
For the tourists: there are two elevators in town that people can use to visit the Grund and the Pfaffenthal. The first one is sort of hidden in the Cité Judiciaire, on the Plateau du St. Esprit (it goes down the rock); the second one is panoramic and can be reached in the Pescatore park, avenue de la Porte Neuve not far from the Schueberfouer. However, this elevator is out of order every 1st Monday of the month for maintenance.
What a pleasant surprise to come across this video. I have been living in Luxembourg for a year & a half now and the country is indeed a hidden gem. I have travelled to most of the continent and am constantly surprised by the beauty, ease & history of this place.
Next time take the elevator in/out of Grund! Much less trekking and uphill battles 😉 I’m an American living in Lux for almost 4 years. Appreciate you putting a spotlight on this AMAZING country ❤️ I’d love for it to stay a secret tbh 😂😂😂
Hey Tre, great video. I'm glad to see that you like Luxembourg City so much. A little tip for next time you come, there are two elevators to get to the lower part of town (Pfaffenthal) and also buses (public buses, trains and trams etc. are all free, only the tourist buses and trains cost something). I used to always walk down to the valley, but with two small children, a buggy, etc., it's easier to take the elevator or the bus. Greetings from Diekirch, the city in Luxembourg where the beer you drank comes from.
As far as I can tell Bouchée à la reine is called "Königspastete" in Germany. For my family this was our classic Christmas dinner. One of the reasons being that you could only buy the good outer pastry at bakeries at that time. I was in Luxembourg only once or twice. It was nice, but not cheap. I can also recommend Strasbourg, the political center of Europe.
As always, nice video. You should do a "Hidden Treasure" travel book. It is so true that usually only the big cities are on the map of International tourists but there are so many smaller ones that are often better then their bigger counterparts. Luxemburg has a great mixture of old and new, is very clean and gorgeous on every corner. Now, for your next trip. Italy is always a safe bet. If you drive over the Brenner, use the old Brenner road as it winds down towards Lago di Garda. You will see old castles in the mountains that you will wonder how those were built hundreds of years ago.
As someone living there in Walferdange, I can definitely say it’s an incredible country with beautiful cities. It’s a bit hostile to cyclists and people walking but that’s just more sport. One place you definitely HAVE to go to is the forest tracks following a river called the mullerthal. It’s really nice although it’s no walk in the park. It’s really rough terrain but beautiful scenery and you won’t regret it. You can even find some hidden places where you get to climb on top of the canyon.
Nicee one man, Luxembourg is indeed a very nice country to visit! Edit: If you stay in Gemany I would rather go to Berlin than Hamburg. The food in Berlin is endlesssssss!
Honney! There are some public elevators from uptown to downtown! It helps a lot. And nope: no 15 euros for the little bus. This is a touristic service. The public "alzette bus" is FREE. Like all public transport in Luxemburg since two years.
Next time you visit Luxembourg city, take a tour through the casemattes! It's the old fortress where you can walk through, you can see canons and have beautiful views on the city
My advise when visiting Luxembourg, be prepared to meet stuborn french shop clerks who won't speak to you in English. Some might try but I haven't met many that tried with english.
Architecture is typical BENELUX, old houses mixed with newer ones and also nice, always bought hookah tobacco there. Love the food as it has many influences. When you go to Berlin, go over Kassel, you still got 25 days to visit the DOCUMENTA, a huge exhibition of contempory art and the town itself is also worth a visit with much wood, mixed new and old architecture and several sights. Nice video as always, take care.
We were in Luxemburg last month for holiday. I recognized the restaurant from the first part of the video,my GF is vegan so that was the choice for us too.
Fun fact. That fair is known as the Schueberfuer. It's an annual fair (every year from late August to early July) thats been around since the 14th century.
Hello from Luxembourg, but why you say Loossenbourg XD, its LuXembourg ( I guess you pronounce it like Lucks´embourg ) my friend, but glad you like our country :)
There's a lift from the city center to the Grund. And that train thing just does laps around the city, it's better to get the bus as public transport is free in Luxembourg. Now try to say Schueberfouer which is the name of the fair. By the way it's the 680th edition this year.
I'm guessing you didn't know about the elevator that takes you down to the Grund? Walking down is nice though but if you do again, it's great to walk through the Petrusse valley to get to the Grund area.
A Diekirch is never a bad choice. Or a Bofferding! When I was there about 12 Years ago I have also walked up and down all those stairways to heaven, nobody would ever believe it. Luxemburg is called the Balcony of Europe, there you go. On my first day after I got to the city from the airport I had some hours before I went further north in this country up to Clervaux, so I thought I could explore some of those steep ways. At that very day there was a City Run taking place and everyone was running up and down those hills. No matter where I went, I was overtaken so many times by the runners all over the whole city. Just watching them was breathtaking. The remnants of this old castle belonged to us Austrians, before they kicked us out. This summer I have been to Blaubeuren, which is located a bit southern of Stuttgart, to visit the Blautopf. You might like it there as well. I also recommend to go to Augsburg, Nürnberg, Schwäbisch Hall, Lake Constance.
I only know american fairs from movies or CZcams but is it possible, that European fairs are more grounded and not those big buy this buy that festivals? I always enjoy fairs.
