THE MOST UNDERRATED ABBA SONG OF ALL TIME 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Underrated is the most overrated word on YT.
@@Bruce-1956 Iconic is the most over used and misused word...underrated is a close second! :)

Quite the bit of ABBA’s Ring Ring album are underrated
This is the one that had No 1 written all over it but missed it by a mile. Such a masterpiece.
Your comment makes no sense, for example it hit No 3 in their native Sweden, also No 3 in the Netherlands...etc
So wasn't a mile off no1 + also doesn't matter if it got to number one or not at least it was a hit single in many countries!
The only other that could have been (but wasn't even released as a single) was If It Wasn't For The Nights from the Voulez-Vous album
@@mikekaraoke Maybe it missed by a mile compared to his expectations of hitting no. 1 in most countries?
But on a more positive note, the UK sent Mr Blobby to No1!😂
Timeless song, a masterpiece. And Agnetha’s smile in the video when they are on the train… how can anyone not immediately fall in love with her?
Exactly! Especially that sexy lip bite she does at 02:26
Gorgeous!
Agreed ..she is mesmerizing.
@@scottluther2091 her stalker thought the same as well, horrible man, some Dutch geezer. Creepy, I can’t believe she actually went with him as well.

"Don't sing as good as you can"...song becomes a classic
I wondered why Agnetha wasn't singing her usual best with this song and now this explains it. Makes me like the song so much more.
Agnetha sings the ultimate Abba song with total perfection.
Stunning delivery of emotions.
Too good for the pop charts at the time, this song took years to be appreciated.
I don't even remember when it was released, it must not have made much of a splash on the charts or radio. Heard it years later and was blown away.
Yes, it was by far their best song.
Once Chuck Berry said: “A good song always tells a story”. This is a genius example of that. Upper higher level of songwriting this is. Amazing.
This is by far, the BEST ABBA song ever.
When ITV did The Nation’s Favourite Abba song, the top three were:
1 The Winner Takes It All
2 Dancing Queen
3 The Day Before You Came.
These are my top three..... in the order, 2, 3, 1 .
@@jadams3427 My favourite Abba song changes every day, there are so many
@@bobmac004 I know. Same here. SOS was my first "best ABBA song". I love "One of Us" now. But there are so many.
Underrated masterpiece. Fills me with melancholy but it's absolutely my own personal favorite ABBA song. Sheer beauty.
The day before you came. Could have meant anything really. Person, religious experience, cancer.... My favourite ABBA song, lies in its ambiguous nature, great melody, arrangement and performance.
One of the best popsongs ever written and most likely the very best Abba song.
Fitting this was their swansong. All of us could now ponder what life was like before Abba came.
One of the greatest melodies and lyrics ever written. A story in words and music that most can relate to. Thank you ABBA. Excellent.
It's not "amazing Grace." It's for all eternity.
Bjorn and Benny are excellent song writers, and very nice, intelligent humble people.
1 John 2:15-17 New Living Translation
15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

ABBA look like ordinary people, but the music they make is DIVINE!!!
It's a Hauntingly beautiful Masterpiece ♥
My favourite Abba song. It's so moody. Agnetha looks amazing. Fab to hear Benny.
Amazing song, beautifully sung by Agnetha.
This song is a kind of dream.
An singular inspiration!
I have to admit, I am not the biggest ABBA fan out there but this is truly one of all time my favorite songs ever. The composition is so perfectly fitting the lyrics and the simple production with Agnetha's clear vocals and expression... This is perfection. Love this.
You're right Benny, they're not just happy tunes. they're beautiful songs!!
I'm thinking, he really analyses that well, then I think, well he would know, wouldn't he?
I only heard this ABBA song for the first time in my headphones at work this week and I had to find it. Couldn't stop thinking about how great the lyrics and music were.
First time I heard this song I was surprised by its melancholy and synth pop sound...I liked it immediately. Definitely one of ABBA's best songs.
My favourites were always the darker minor-chord tracks: SOS, Eagle, One Man, One Woman, etc. There was also something dark in Summer Night's City and The Piper as well, musically.
I let the music speak
Best song of Abba. Unbelievable emotion and lyrics.
I understood this song to mean this: I didn't realize how boring my life was until you came along. And now you're gone, and I'm stuck in my dull boring life again, _knowing_ it's a boring life. Benny may say it's not a reflection of their overall mood at the end of ABBA, but it fits perfectly: they lead a perfectly normal life before ABBA, they had a spectacularly unique life during ABBA and now they are living the normal life again (if that can really happen post something as big as ABBA).
Didn't you see the video? ABBA didn't decide at the time that this album was gonna be their last. They took a break. It was 4-5 years later they realized that ABBA was over.
... Til just recently. 🙂
The song is a definitive masterpiece.
Love from Iran.
@E Ner The reply button didn't work at first, sorry if my comment is sent to you more than once :\
@E Ner It's okay.
For some reason my original comment gets removed. But to answer your question in short:
I'm an Iranian and I'm not happy. I think many Iranians share this sentiment. You see, on the surface, this country may look relatively normal and advanced, but deep beneath, it's an Orwellian nightmare. (read what happened during the November of 2019 protests)
@E Ner any time :)
Love this so much. I like the Matt-mix version even more. It inserts a great bass line!
@@pauljennings7668 Oh, I would love to hear that. will check it out. Thanks!
Just like with "The winner takes it all", there is a kind of hypnotizing repetitive background which never starts to bore. This has almost double the length of other pop songs and it still feels too short.
One of the most hauntingly beautiful songs in Pop history. Don't we all remember how dull life was the day (or days) before new love came? The only downside is the video - it shows what COULD be happening; better left unsaid cos the song says it all.
I discovered ABBA while watching "Muriel's Wedding'. I loved the music, so my friend loaned me "ABBA Gold". I played it so much that I had to buy my own copy to give my friend his CD back. I also bought "More ABBA Gold" at the same time. As a result, I wasn't aware of the history or order of the songs. This song was on "More ABBA Gold" and could have just as easily been from 1972 as from 1982 as far as I was concerned in 1995.
Muriel Heslop.... such a great movie
I love that this is not their last recorded song anymore
As said by others, this song is a pop masterpiece. One of four singles at the end of their last time around that should have been huge in the charts, and each recognised as pop masterpieces - " The Day Before You Came", " The Visitors", "When All Is Said and Done", "One of Us". These had some success in diverse countries and genres but nothing like each deserved. The sour critics had had their way, and audiences had tuned to the latest fads at the time.
It's fitting that they should be having so much enormous success again now.

I remember being disappointed back in 1982 when I first heard this song. But as the years went by, my attitude changed. Now I really love the song! And now I'm really glad it didn't turn out to be the last song they recorded. So happy to have them back!
I remember it being played on the radio first time around and thinking it was absolutely AWFUL…. how it’s matured into a fine masterpiece
Ambiguous, mysterious, with immense room for personal interpretation. Such a wonderful track. A love lost, the arrival of illness, death even.
Agree. When discussng the meaning ("what is this about", who came the day after...) I see a variety of interpretations. My personal idea is that every day is the day before "you came", we keep on fantisizing about our dreams comming true, but they won't. In the video you can recognise this, as her dream-man evaporates when she looks again. He is jsut a dream. Next day will be like today
@@Tieper I love seening other peoples different interpretations of this song. And yours is totally new to me, and kinda cool.
I've always seen it as more of a "Flowers for Algernon" kinda thing. She was quite content with her life before she met "The One" and now that he is out of her life, what once seemed like a normal life now seems mundane and dull.
@@Mckalmelid Interesting... so she gives a new interpretation to her "old life", now she has met "the real one". Will listen to the song with this angle
@@Tieper I'll do the same with your interpretation.
To elaborate what i was trying to convey i'll quote @Ceorge Glooney from this comment section, he/she/it :). put it really well
"I understood this song to mean this: I didn't realize how boring my life was until you came along. And now you're gone, and I'm stuck in my dull boring life again, knowing it's a boring life"
@@Tieper My take is pretty close to yours: The ’you’ in this beautiful melancholic song and video represents the illusion of The Big Love which is beyond one’s reach in this life, as illustrated by the ‘untouching’ of the hands of the woman and her imagined lover, separated by an invisible and impenetrable sheet of glass; the membrane between dream and reality.
This song is a masterpiece. You listen to it once, and it stays with you forever. This is the fastest song that I memorized.
We love you, Benny. I can’t imagine you would be surprised at that. You are four very talented people. You were full of energy and having so much fun! It was a joy watching you perform. I hear the sadness in the music. I like it. I always loved watching you playing piano and headbanging. You would sneak a cute look with a heart melting smile, and I fell for you. You are attractive to this day. Love you, Benny. Never stop playing! ❤️🌹❤️
Abba strikes back in 2021.
The very last and no doubt the most beautiful song of ABBA .
Agree.
An ABBA masterpiece.!
Perfect description of the track... Haunting. It has that effect everytime I listen to it. Pure magic.....
Even though the person's life in the song seems sad, it's as if THAT life changing relationship turned everything upside down. She's singing from a point of view that this wonderful man came into her life, but now he's long gone. Left in that position, she can no longer go back to what she once knew. A BIG wakeup call, and a new start 💗
Haunting so true. I have always loved this song. I was 8 but I knew all the lyrics by heart. Thank you for the music abba
My favourite ABBA song by a country mile.
This song always gives me a chill, it has something very special about it.
There is no doubt that Abba has been the most capable of pop Band through the time so far.
I'm lost for words how good this is.!!
My favorit song of all time...Made me cry every time I hear it.
One of the greatest pop songs ever written.
The longevity of this song, makes it a masterpiece, their most compassionate beautiful song!
One of my forever favourite songs in the world
My favourite ABBA song since I was 8 years old!
Beautiful song, definitely my favourite of all ABBA songs. Pure genius.
I like it enormously, reminds me my youth, very nostalgic
There is just a sad melancholy in each of their songs...just spells ...just an incantation
I like some ABBA's songs, but heard this one for the first time in my life on the radio a year ago, and loved it straight away (and that happens really rarely to me). No doubt masterpiece: lyrics - simple but complicated, music - so melancholic...
Fantastic song.
So great to hear some background on how it all REALLY was for them. Not all the guessing and assuming everybody did, but real stories from the people themselves.
Best ABBA track ever !!!!!
In my opinion, the best part of the song is Frida's operatic voice in the background. I wish it would never end.
Well listened! Yes Frida's voice is in the background combined with some synths and fine tuning. Benny did all parts and layers by himself.
For sure. For decades I thought Frida’s solo was a synthesizer.
One of my favourites - love it ❤️
I still get the same feelings when I listen to ABBA, as when I was a little Boy. I just love IT.
Thanks so much for the video.
Benny is a music genius 💯👌🔥
Their best song ever imho
Such a great song and even though she was told not to sing her best, she still sounds very good! Sad to know that this was their last song for about 40 years!
Yes, Agnetha being asked to not sing at her best exceeds anyone elses ultimate performance.. It is a stunning vocal, almost like an actor, showcasing fragility, hesitancy and nervousness, but at the end crescendo "the train back home again", it is like some europhoric revelation or performance for a few seconds before going back into those feelings of meloncholy... They may have asked, but what they got was a vocal masterpiece!

Back in time when Abba fans where young didn not how to apreciate very underated songs for them. Now they do
I have always thought that this song was so underrated. With Agnetha's and Frida's vocals, it just soars. And the video is hands down the best video ever produced by ABBA. It evoked everything you wanted to feel and was elevated way past anything that had been done for them. All around a fantastic work!
I must’ve listened to this song at least 300 times so far and I am not tired of it
That must have been (the day) before he / she came, right?
Fridas vocals at the end of song automatically transport me to another dimension. You start getting the chills when you hear her singing and next thing you know you’re being transported. Amazing band.

Sterk nummer. Sterke tekst
I love this song! I have it on my jukebox 🥰
This song is DEEP, it moves me and I ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ it so much!🇩🇰
The main reason that everybody loves this song is because of the wonderful melancholic video.
No. I am not at all a fan of the video, the main reason everyone loves this song is because it's that good. Eff the stupid video.
Yes the video is Perfect.
I've always fancied brunettes never liked blondes. Agnetha is one of the very few blondes I've really like: expressive, kind eyes, wonderful, genuine smile. As for the song, one of the best out there.
No song nowadays could possible touch you the way this one does.
I'm happy that day are back thanks Abba
It was a song I could relate to. Still that same feeling when I hear it: sad
Agnetha's flirting eyes and awesome smile made this rather sober and grey video unforgettable.
Finally i found this Song. How many amazing songs they made. But the lyrics, wooow ! They must known something !! It dosnt just drop from heaven....... or ;-)
Their best song in an already impressive collection.
Possibly even by Abba, this is the underrated song. The changed in tempo matching the day, but also a real story. Perhaps it was a closure, hence the about mood of the video, but to me it was a celebration of relationship. This made no I was before, this who I am now. The question is is this someone telling their partner "you saved me" or someone reflecting on their own, or even a funeral.
This masterpiece was never really provided with a music video to match.
Yes, Agnetha looked stunning with that sublime smile but the video was lame appearing almost an afterthought.
The song however though was one of their finest, hauntingly beautiful with Frida’s almost ghostly operatic backing and Agnetha delivering Bjorns brilliant lyrics and Benny laying the wonderful tapestry.
😎👌
I completely disagree...I thought the video was great. It looked more like a story unfolding than any other videos they produced.
I'm not a great Abba fan, but this song is a masterpiece.
Well sung by Agnetha and what i like the most is the bass and ritme that makes this number special.
I'm glad it wasn't a great hit so it will stay special always special
Wow, they actually asked Agnetha to tone it down? Funny how It turned out to be one of her best works.
I simply love this song ❤
Even the most happy, uplifting ABBA songs have a tinge of sadness to them. That’s the paradox of ABBA, which makes their songs so appealing.
ABBAs music for me always has a classical feel to it...
3:42 ‘don’t sing as good as you can’? - but yet even without trying she put down one of the best vocal tracks in the history of music even when performing in just 2nd gear!
The best one!
Love this song
Benny saying to Agnetha don't sing as good as you can, and she nails it, is genius.
TDBYC is one of my top 5 ABBA songs. Unfortunately it came out at a time when people we’re about tired of ABBA, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a fantastic piece. I never tire of this track. The storytelling, synths, operatic tones and that gorgeous long fade out. I also love Bennys incredible recent piano version. I really wish that they could have used this new piano version with the original vocals just for fun. Love this to bits.
I totally agree about Benny's superb piano rendition
'Under Attack' is the beginning and 'The Day Before You Came' is the end of one story.
The best ABBA song.
The only ABBA song I will always remember. I'm not much into pop songs, but this was different.
Brilliant, beautiful song
