10:04 - Landlords are individuals and therefore interaction can vary a lot depending on individuals. Therefore cases to change apartment because of landlord exist. Also, cases of keeping apartments because of "good" landlords exist.
Tip about landlords - locals often don't like to be referred to as "lords", but rather prefer terms like "owners" (of home/apartment), etc.
And yes, fully monolingual persons do exist in Estonia and not only Estonian or Russian speakers. Among one of the reasons, to use a professional real estate agent. A friend who knows a specific language is a good idea as well.
Pets thing has often to do with allergies (landlord may have it for example) and previous negative experience with (very) careless renters.

Agree, everything is individual. But now I am wandering - what if the owner doesn't speak your language and let's say you don't have a friend who speaks it either, so how would you solve problems if something were to happen with the apartment?
My owner said that his wife had an allergy. But since she usually doesn't step a foot in the apartment, he just asked to make a deep cleaning before leaving. All the damages from the cat will of course also be on my charge.
@@olgadergachyova8026 My actual experience is over a decade old, but so from both sides: I was owner and rental at the same time. As I worked in a different region for a while and it made sense to live there.
That's why it was so good to bring the language issue out in the video: "meet with the landlord." Language skills vary. The majority are bilingual, or rather, a majority knows at least two languages. Quite many also know a third or a fourth language. Especially among younger people, English tends to be well enlisted.
If you do not know each other languages, people search for someone who does: a neighbor, a coworker, or a random person from a street might be able to help, and usually does so. However, it is a whole another topic, if something urgent happens. Still:

Do not waste your time thinking about the owner, any owner in the right mind will be thankful for this. Do inform the owner, keep calm, and try to find someone close by, who can help with language if in need (it is quite typical actually). Info for various events: www.olevalmis.ee/en
Concerning officials, they are usually required to know several languages. Eg: police patrols work in pairs and good practice is to set them up in a pair in such a way, that linguistic skill coverage would be more highly covered.

The Pet topic seems quite typically solved as you described. It is useful to have any settlement in rent contact, should there be any dispute arise afterward. There are few, who do not allow pets of any kind, under any circumstances and there are others who do not care slightest. Usually, those who do not want any pets put it in the ad or inform their's agent - definitely ask. It's still worthy of asking when meeting the owner, even if the ad says no - as in actuality reconsideration may still be on the table.

I noticed that many adds do not contain any info about pets, which leaves room for interpretation. I would say that it also depends on the condition of the apartment. Because sometimes it's not necessarily about allergies but also damages. For example if the property is brand new with expensive on-demand furniture, owners are usually quite reluctant.
Although I also visited freshly build apartments from an owner who initially didn't want any pets. But she was willing to meet my demands because she had liked me as a potential tenant during the visits. So my advice is always be nice, polite, and caring. The owners may change their mind if they see that they can trust you.

In my apartment and the majority of apartments for rent here the furniture is included.

Hi! Personally, I don't have experience with that, but it shouldn't be hard to find. Landlords who rent out illegally without paying taxes are probably more accommodating for short-term rentals.
Also, it's not nice, but you could sign a lease agreement for a year and then break it with a one-month prior notice after two months.

Some luxury apartment complexes may have one but average apartment buildings usually don't. A one month pass can cost from 30 and up to 90 euros.

It's often a problem here too. But it mostly depends on the state of the apartment I guess. Mine isn't new, so it wasn't too hard. However, it also depends on the owner. I met a very nice Estonian lady with whom we got along pretty well, so she was ready to rent out her brand-new apartment to me and my cat regardless.

Yes. The real obstacle is getting a loan. Not all banks provide mortgage loans for foreigners or temporary residents. Usually, those that do provide them require a much higher initial deposit.

Yeah, you can get around Tallinn using English. But you can also start attending Estonian language classes for free after arrival.

But there are additional running monthly fees for electricity, water, heating, and so on. Those can vary a lot throughout the year - winter months can be much-much pricier.
