✵✵✵✵✵What are white dwarfs? (Astronomy)
White dwarfs are dead stars that continue to glow because of heat, not nuclear fusion. Most stars in our universe will end up as a white dwarf star. Join us to learn how white dwarfs are made, what they’re like, how long they’ll shine, and how astronomers detect them.

One star says to another: I have a tiny almost invisible companion.
The other star says: Are you sirius?
That is hilarious 😂
pro tip: watch series at Flixzone. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies these days.
@Noel Dakota yup, have been watching on flixzone for years myself :D
Very well presented, Astronomy is magical to say the least.
I've watched it several times and it simply gets better. You did a great job - well explained, well articulated and very interesting.
You are great, videos are well explained
my kids and I enjoy pretty much every video that you folks make. keep up the great work!
This channel is awesome!!! Love it. Thank you
Thank you so much, Patrick!! We're so glad you're watching!! :)
The video i great, I've seen this information several times (astronomy nerd since I was kid lol) but her delivery is great! Please keep the good job.
I would like to thank you guys for your really hard work on this channel! I can't imagine how long it takes to create just one video like this one! Two months? More? To search, organise the material, to record (and all the re-recordings!!! hehe), to edit and finally publish... GOSH!
Do you guys know how much you're helping those interested in these matters? It is priceless, indeed! Things we're carrying here and there we pass from generation to generation, and... Well, I got a bit excited!
Anyway!
Thank you very much for sharing such knowledge in such a way!
Your kind message means so much to us. So nice to meet someone else who loves learning and teaching.
We do work hard on our videos - we love this material, and we learned from such excellent teachers over the years. We really want to make mini educational movies that will stand the test of time! So many people want to learn but don't have the opportunity. But CZcams and other platforms can change all that!
We visited your channel and subscribed. Your Norwegian class via Skype is a great idea!
Everyone, check this out: czcams.com/video/CeBfJc4NpWY/video.html
Hi there!
WOW! When I read it I was like, speechless!
I am very glad indeed to know you visited my channel as well that you recommended my classes here!
Serious!
And about your ideal with Socratica; you said exactly what I think!
To keep it in mind, that so many of us truly want to learn about these themes: philosophy, astronomy, languages, etc (as you noticed I am one of them), but simply don't have any reference or they are unreliable. You, with this channel, are not only giving us these references but also teaching us A LOT through your videos!
So once again, thank you very much!
You know, actually I try to do the same with my videos (despite the fact they are all basically in portuguese, so... sorry), in which I talk mainly about the perception of reality, what is reality, consciousness and spirituality (regarding some eastern philosophies and norse mythology), without dictating anything, obviously, in an attempt to help those who have been asking me for some kind of guidance in a Facebook page of mine, as well personally.
Do you have any Facebook profile/page? Because recently I started an amateur album on it in which I publish some photos I've been taken of the night sky, where I explain about the constellations, the stars, planets, clusters, etc... Maybe you would like!
Peace!
Well made video and very well explained. Loved it!
Thank you for breaking down this information! I really appreciate it!
Great video, very well produced! You guys deserve many, many more subs.
Aw, thanks! We grow by word-of-mouth, so if you know anyone who might like our channel, we'd be grateful if you'd share this video with them. :)
Socratica, I love your Astronomy Videos... and have been watching them for 1.5 years. Please MAKE MORE VIDEOS in future about planets, Gravitational lensing, Dark Matter, Dark Energy and many more... :)
Thank You
We are so glad you are enjoying our videos!! Thank you so much for writing and letting us know you have been our longtime fan. This makes us so happy!!
More videos coming soon! :)
Thank you Socratica! Another great astronomy video :)

You're so kind, thank you!! :)
@@Socratica Einstein never nearly understood TIME, E=MC2, F=ma, gravity, or ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy.
He was, in fact, a total weasel.
c2 represents a dimension ON BALANCE, as E=MC2 IS F=ma in accordance with the following:
UNDERSTANDING THE ULTIMATE, BALANCED, TOP DOWN, AND CLEAR MATHEMATICAL UNIFICATION OF ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy AND gravity, AS E=MC2 IS CLEARLY F=ma:
The stars AND PLANETS are POINTS in the night sky. E=MC2 IS F=ma, AS this proves the term c4 from Einstein's field equations. SO, ON BALANCE, this proves the fourth dimension. ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is gravity. Gravity IS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy !!!
TIME is NECESSARILY possible/potential AND actual IN BALANCE, AS E=MC2 IS F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is gravity. INDEED, TIME dilation ULTIMATELY proves ON BALANCE that E=MC2 IS F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is gravity. Gravity IS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy.
Gravity AND ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy are linked AND BALANCED opposites, AS E=MC2 IS F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is gravity; AS gravity/acceleration involves BALANCED inertia/INERTIAL RESISTANCE; AS GRAVITATIONAL force/ENERGY IS proportional to (or BALANCED with/as) inertia/INERTIAL RESISTANCE. Gravity IS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy.
E=mC2 IS CLEARLY F=ma. This NECESSARILY represents, INVOLVES, AND DESCRIBES what is possible/potential AND actual IN BALANCE, AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is gravity. Gravity IS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy !!!

Consider what is a white dwarf.
Very nicely made video! I'm subscribed!
Thank you Ben! We just subscribed to Ben's Lab - 500 Roentgen! :)
+Socratica thanks! I like your video! Really polished. It's what I aim for one day...obviously my videos are a bit rustic at this point in time :/ Cheers for watching. I have to share this video on my facebook and twitter. It's educational! I'd like to see videos on branes or primal black holes :)
I really like all of your videos its all about knowledge
You got new subscriber. Very nice channel. Thank you so much.
Hooray! We're so glad you've found our channel. Thank you for subscribing!! :)
Thanks for the vid.
Thank you so much.
Duuuuude I'm taking Astrophysics rn and you just explained this so perfectly like my prof!!!
the video presentation is amazing. im learning and entertained at the same time
Nice video. Valeu!
This is a wonderful video, and I have not commented for a while, but you are my favorite speaker/narrator. I love your channel :)
We're so glad to hear from you! Thanks for such a nice comment. :) All the best from all of us at Socratica!
You are most welcome :)
She is so great. At basically everything…
Truly, have seen so many science related CZcams channels... But this one is undoubtedly the BEST... Respect ma'm... My good wishes.. I am with this channel..
She is definitely going places in the Astronomy/Cosmology field’s of Science.
Guys, you are good. I have watched dozens of videos on evolution of stars but heard many of the terms today for the first time.
I loved your clip ❤️❤️
This channel deserves more likes and subs
That's so kind of you to say, thank you! Please share with all your friends and neighbors! :) We'd love to hear what other topics you'd be interested in.
yes i enjoy ur chanel 😁
You guys really deserve more subscribers!
Thanks! If you know of anyone who might like our channel, it'd be awesome if you could share one of our videos with them. This is how we grow. :)
I would advice you guys to try contact channels like SciShow/Crash Course, although groups like Kurz gesagt and Tell me Why are way more accessible to talk with them (especially the first one, they always answer on reddit)
The only such stars capable of emitting and using Electrons are N class stars hence the name Neutron Stars. The force Electron Degeneracy is what prevents the White Dwarf from shrinking any further.
Photons however are produced in the cores during Nuclear Fusion and are often referred to as Light carrying Packets.
+1 for Astronomy / astrophysics :)
Just found your channel, effective explanation of white dwarfs, fascinating stars, thanks
We're so glad you've found us! Welcome! :D
The joke at the end was so funny, I subscribed.
Will you also do a video on black dwarf stars? Your mention of them made me curious about the idea.
This channel is amazing 👌🏿
You are so kind! Thank you for watching and leaving us such a nice comment. It inspires us to make more videos!! :)
hey, nice video there.Great explanation.
I had a lingering question in my head: What is Eddington paradox ?
Maybe it will make a good video.
Intresting presentation
I'm doing a school project on a thing i think is interesting, and i chose the white dwarf. And this video has been extremely helpful!
Fantastic video.. Subscribing the channel ma' m
I like astronomy and you just make me addicted to it. Best of luck, an Arab fan of "Socratica" 💙💎
Love from India.... I love the speaker.. She made the difficult things to be easy via her explanations and expressions.... Thank you...
Thanks but some small corrections would be needed:
0:53 actually, the fusion in the first step of a star evolution merges 4 H atoms, not 2, into 1 He
1:25 it doesn't depend on the initial mass of the star but on the mass. Imagine a small start merging later in life with another and thus increasing its current mass but not the initial smaller mass. Which mass dictates its evolution?
2:35 I would avoid using here "dark matter" as it usually means something else entirely.
And another minor correction to your correction: it's 4 hydrogen nuclei, not atoms.
Thank you so much I needed it for my science homework I will share this video is will subscribe
We're so glad you found our video helpful! Thanks so much for subscribing - we're so glad you've found us! :) :)
Oh great teaching
your videos are great guys! do you do those animations? they are really amazing!
Thanks! We do all of our animations. We have an amazing team! ( Was that too braggy? :)
You are really amazing! Keep the good job!
I wonder why I haven't seen this channel before! unlike Google which has pretty complicated stuff and can't understand the head tail (especially if you search stellar evolution) this channel got a subscribe and a share! (I believe they are interested in this)
You are great at this! How much school did you do? :)
Thank you for your kind message! We have a small team of writers/producers/hosts/editors at Socratica - between us, we figure we have about 7 or 8 degrees. :) We always loved learning and teaching. Now we can share all the things we love on CZcams!
Thank you, socratica
Thanks
Best subscribe pitch. I never subscribe, but you win, I feel bad for that button! Lol. PS. How bright will our white dwarf sun be compared to, say the full moon?
Very nice
2 identical particles cannot occupy the same space if they are Fermions, like electrons in white dwarfs undergo degenerate pressure. Bosons occupy the same space and they are identical to each other. Be careful with this fundamental difference.
So the Pauli exclusion principle is exclusive to Fermions.
Great little video as usual.
great video, I love the topic of astronomy...
but what is the difrence between a super nova and a hyper nova?
prehaps a cool idea for a new video: hyper nova's
This would be a great video! Hypernovas (aka 'collapsars') are really fascinating. A lot of the things in astronomy take millions of years to unfold, but in the case of hypernovae, everything happens on the order of seconds! We would probably have to show a hypernova unfolding in slow-motion in order to have time to point out all the cool things happening.
+Socratica yeah its so facinating to see how a star that lived for millions or even billions of years can be gone in such a short time...
Wow i like it. It's amazing fact that you had said about it.
MOAR!!!!!! .... please
Love your videos
Thanks! We just filmed a whole bunch of astronomy videos. The next one should be ready in a few more weeks.
I love the ending see off of these vids :D
I'm lucky today because I found this amazing channel
Please do more great videos with less dramatic ends.
nice postproduction.
Perfectly explained..
When is the next Astronomy coming then? Please don't make us wait another 8 months :) I really like these videos
The next one should be ready in another week or two. :) Going forward, we're hoping to release a new astronomy video each month.
just subscribed I couldn't reject.
I love their video tutorials on Python programming. I just hope they create some more videos on specific python libraries like pandas and matplotlib
White dwarves need a support group, where they can get together and express their concerns, share their experiences, and reassure each other that they are not alone in the universe.
But… Ultimately, with enough and sufficient passing of time, white dwarfs will be alone. Trillions of year’s from now white dwarf stars and black holes will be the last remaining objects in the cosmos. So yea they will be extremely and completely all alone adrift through the cosmos to live and live and live what will surely seem like an eternity
The way u r telling to subscribe... actually it makes me subscribe u r channel✌️
💮🔆Great😊
Esse canal é a minha principal de fonte de astronomia e de listening no inglês :)
I love your videos. I'm planning to become an astronomer when I grow up and these videos explain everything so perfectly! I bet all the dislikes are from people who don't understand the things you talk about.
We're so glad you're watching!! We'd love to hear what topics you get interested in as you study more astronomy! 💜🦉
Wolfii yeah they are just the stupid Flat-Earthers offcourse
The dislikes must be from hitting the wring key. There’s no real or appropriate reasoning for disliking this video.
mind blowing
Which software you have used in this video for video editing ?
Big like
The level of quality in this videos ,for a channel that is below 50k subs, is amazing. You guys are giving us premium content, better than some channels that have close to 1mil subs (no namedrops). Keep up the good work and i hope you guys grow faster than this beacuse you deserve it!!!
P.S. Im interested in what kind of background do you have in science, and how much time does it take to research for 1 vid? Thank you in advance!
Your comment really put a smile on our faces! We do work very hard on each video - we usually write scripts over the course of several weeks, and they go through several rounds of fact-checking. Then we film and edit the videos.
We're a small team at Socratica, and most of the writing is done by our founders, who both got their undergrad degrees at Caltech. Michael Harrison is a mathematician who is also a programmer (former Googler) and loves astronomy. Kimberly Hatch Harrison is a molecular biologist, who was a scientist for many years, and then taught Chemistry and Biology. She also holds a degree in English Literature. So we all take turns writing, filming, and editing.
We sure hope we continue to grow. Everyone - share our videos! Tell your friends who blog about STEM! We've got to get the word out. Meanwhile, we'll keep making videos. :)
Socratica Yeah, its amazing how much time you put in this videos considering you dont really make a living out of this. So thank you one more time for using your free time to educate us about wonders of universe!!
Chipsy Chips You are so welcome! Yes, we're hoping that gradually we will grow large enough to be self-sustaining. In the meantime, we need to pace ourselves. It's also helping that we are starting to get some supporters on Patreon. Every bit helps!
We'd love to hear what topics you are most interested in - we're writing and filming more videos all the time...
Socratica Well my passion is astronomy (that's why I'm studying physics) and I would love to see more videos on that, but some that explain a bit more complicated phenomena (but that is just me :) ). But right now I am really enjoying your abstract algebra series, because I need it for my college. So more math and astronomy would be perfect if you ask me, and i think most people enjoy to watch those videos as well. Oh and please, no matter how big you get (i hope its BIG), don't get lazy and don't feel pressured to put out more and more videos. Quality before quantity. Some of the best channels out here are those that don't care about quantity of their videos, but for their quality. And of course there are a lot of examples where channels disregarded quality of their videos just so they could pump out more of them, and that was there doom. I hope you choose former :D
Chipsy Chips More astronomy and abstract algebra on the way for sure!
We so agree about your "quality vs. quantity" point. We're always trying to make videos that we would have loved to have when we were students. We do get pressure all the time to make more videos - faster/cheaper - but we have standards we really are determined to keep up.
It's a real pleasure chatting with you! Best of luck with your studies. :)
Very precise and simple explanation. "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." - Albert Einstein.
I wouldn't mind if you'd make more astronomy videos.
I just discovered the best astrophysics channel
2:33 Might cause slight confusion calling it dark matter... Come to think of it, you should make a video on Dark Matter! :-)
That’s interesting!🤨
Does anyone know what the intro music is called? Please and thank you.
I subscribe
