They Did Leonardo and Casey Jones dirty. Leonardo was the most skilled and disciplined. He deserved better than this. Casey was Raph's best bud and also a warrior.
leo went out protecting his family and putting others before him even though he knew the odds and how massively outnumbered he was, He still was willing to fight. thats truly badass
Mickey deserved the moment it was pivotal for him to snap and become a more serious product of what splinter taught him I believe it was a well deserved spinoff Leonardo always got his flowers let Mikey live
Right, it made it realistic by happening as it did. It wasn't poetic.. They just made due with what they had at the moment, it wasn't their plan, also they had to explain why they died. The best teams weren't teamed up, and that's why they didn't win!
the whole series was not well written and was for a fact rushed.

The Last Ronin was one of the most dark, brutal and emotional stories that I had read period. It was sad to see how each individual turtle and Ally die in each issue, definitely felt like Donnie’s and Splinter’s deaths hit the hardest and seeing Mikey’s reaction and feeling of guilt and remorse was devastating. Hope The Lost Years expand on him and his gradual transformation to the Last Ronin and how he first coped with the loss of his family entirely.
Don and Splinter was 💯 the saddest for me. Don telling splinter to get behind him for cover even though they were doomed. So sad but cool at the same time!

Mikey has always been my favorite turtle, and when I found out he was the Last Ronin, I was so happy that my boy was getting the spotlight. Then I read the book, and all I could do was cry for him. When he nearly killed himself in the beginning, I knew this was going to be darker than I anticipated. I hated what he went through. I cried when he died because after all the violence, after the grief, his last advice to Casey Marie was to “know peace” which, in my opinion, sounds like the young Michelangelo I initially fell in love with. He was still there under his tough shell. (Pun intended) I can’t wait for more. Thanks for the video!

Raphael was my big brother’s favourite turtle 🐢 and my brother passed away 10 years ago, and seeing Raphael getting off makes me remember my brother and his love ❤️ for Raphael
Leo as the Last Ronin was too easy, Raph as the Last Ronin was too obvious, Don as the Last Ronin was unlikely.
Actually, anybody who knew anything about the turtles pretty much concluded well before the reveal that it would be Mikey because he is the youngest and the one with the most potential. It would be pointless to kill him off. Plus the family always protects the youngest above all else.
Raphael is the most brash and reckless of them all. The true frontliner. It was either going to be him or Leo who would die first and the other would doe second. They went Raph first.
Leo is the leader. He would put himself in the line of fire especially after one turtle dies because as leader he knows that he wouldn't forgive himself if others die because of his shortcomings. He trained his whole life for that. Again, making his training purposeless is just bad story telling.
Donnie always is usually the third guy in line. Always protects splinter. So if splinter died then you can bet Donnie died too. Interestingly this was true even in 2003 TMNT TV show where Donnie goes to an alternative universe where he is dead and splinter soon followed and the rest of the turtles fell apart.
Mikey as the Last Ronin was a banger

I’m patiently waiting for the movie adaptation. I loved this arch so much. But it def hit you in the feels. Before it came out, I was hoping it would be Raphael but I deep down knew it was Mikey. Mikey as the survivor has the most emotional impact.

I’d say the number one darkest moment was the look on Splinter’s face when they found his body. That was really good art. He died while still holding his sword and reaching out to his son. The arrows though the mouth and severed arm reaching out to him was really graphic which made the scene more believable. Heartbreaking but heroic!

Last Ronin is magnificent and could/should be turned into: a movie, its own TV series, or a continuation of the 03-07 Turtles
Movie with 1990 Henson suits set in the original movie's universe or we riot. lol.
Donatello and Splinter were the hardest for me to read. Not only that they always been my favorites but also that they died together trying to make peace 😢
Seeing Splinter dying on that table was rough and it totally justified how Raphael felt. Too bad it caused his death. The last ronin is amazing.

There are people who actually think this is a bad story. It baffles me. I love the Last Ronin, even though I thought I would not be able to read it due to some of the brothers being deceased.

@@reiddutchess9955 the idea is great and I love things with high stakes like characters dying but it was the most disappointing thing I read this year after all the hype. I was rolling my eyes basically every page. The writing just isn’t for adults. Casey daughter was bad. Shredders grandson dialog was all bad. Michaelamgelo narrating his fights was all bad. It was written for kids in my opinion.
One of the most bad ass moments though was when Mikey went full shirtless bruce lee with the nunchucks in the sewer and just started beating the brakes off Hiroto. If there is ever a movie this is gonna be that fight that gets everyone wanting to stand.

The way the creators killed Leo is blatantly DISRESPECTFUL! We are talking about the LEADER of the TMNT for crying out loud, the most disciplined, the most trained, literally Master Splinter if he was a fucking TURTLE and he died in 2.2 seconds? Are you serious? Everyone else had a dignified death but him. Such disrespect to the leader of the turtles in my opinion.

Lost Years is gonna be facinating.
I hated that Leo died so stupidly, as not the only the eldest of the brothers, he was the one that trained the most, but it seems like they lowered Leo's role so much and gave the others a more prominent death. I feel that he should had been the one that died with Karai based on their history and Raph with Casey based on theirs. Karai and Leo killing each other in tandem would had made a better more "Warrior's death" all the more significant.
outside of Shedder, do you actually think anyone was capable of killing Leo? They had to ambush him with a cowardly attack
@@retrohero09 Is not of whom could had killed Leo, is how he went out. His death was so bland, and as the one that trained the most, he should had died a warrior's death. Raph was the one made to die as a Warrior, the reckless, temperamental lose cannon, the one that actually had a closer relationship with Casey Jones. They should had died together, as for Don's death, it was ok to an extent and for all of the Ninja Mastery Splinter had, he sure didn't smell a trap... Like rats tend to do.
This is an ok Alternate Universe thing, actually seen as a glimpse in the 2003 series. So to me it was meh, Ok. But many of the characters were offed in order to give Mikey the spotlight in a seemingly rushed way.
I respect anyone that likes it though, and as I said, it's not that I don't like it, but I have my gripes with it when it comes to the characters.

Because the hype was "Who is the Last Ronin?" and then Mikey was revealed, but then a jump the shark moment was when all of the sudden, Mikey gets a "Secondary Mutation" to align him to the BS from the Baynja Turtles with the football player height and tough skins from the 1st abomination movie (something that was erased on the second crap fest).
There are things I like on IDW but there are many that I don't, and when characters are lowered like this for no apparent reason, It really irks me.
Heck, the ending made even less sense when he reunites with his brothers, Splinter and Co, they were at the age they died, but then Mikey reverted to be the youngest and shortest of them. Like, really!? He was past their age during his time till he died... Lazy writing is downplaying it.

it broke me when i saw it was Mikey, it hurt seeing him being driven to that point, losing his brothers one by one and his father, and HELL even Casey
it showed that even the most cheery have their limits before they snap

So Karia speaks of a betrayal just before fighting Raph. And then the turtles speak of a betrayal before her scene. Which betrayal are both of them speaking? They both seem like they were played somehow, but I didn't figure out this "betrayal" on my own reading the whole miniseries.
True, I wonder what happened that broke the truce.
Maybe that will be revealed later? There could be a mastermind behind it that caused the truce to be broken, neither on the turtles side or the foot clan's side. I wonder who it would be though...
What if Nickelodeon made an R-rated TMNT movie based on The Last Ronin?
if they did it would most likley get thrown on Paramount+. which is probably what they'll do if they decide to make a movie out of the Last Ronin. I think they should. it would be great!

This story is worthy of a big screen treatment
I have to say the darkest moment that saddened me was Donatello's and Splinter's death. I didn't actually see the art when I had the copy of The Last Ronin (It was all the books combined with a black cover with Mikey on it). The art is so amazing and I was taken aback when I saw the arrows poking out of Donnie's eye and the rest of his body. Even Splinter's was really sad too, with the sword still in his hand and the pile of his intestines and his severed hand. Ack!!!! So sad!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Actually all deaths of the brothers, Casey, and Splinter left an impact on me. But Donnie's imo, impacted me the most

I haven't been up on comics for many years but I remember the original turtles could be pretty dark. I am glad to see the franchise shedding the kid pizza toy parts that seemed to dominate the franchise for so long. Although I do watching the turtle Christmas every year 😄

I think Donnie and Leo’s deaths should have been swapped cuz Donnie dies to tech and Leo goes out with his father which both of them carry the very old school style monk-ish manner and are killed in an old school way as well.

Imo Leonardo dying in an explosion with Casey Jones,felt like such a cop-out. Considering how skillful Leo was. I'm not saying he's the strongest turtle,but it felt like a sacrifice that was a bit lazy but it was still impactful that they both died.

I still hate the way Raph died like an idiot. The family has been ambushed by the foot countless times and he not only took a tantrum over it but decided he could take out Karai solo. He couldn't even kill her. He just put her in a coma. Raphs death was so pointless and stupid even Mikey pointed out that none of the story would have happened if Raph didn't go out like an asshole.

TMNT: the Last Ronin marks the next generation of the Ninja Turtles with April O'Neil's daughter taking Splinter's place as teacher. On the video they showed April 's daughter with 4 baby turtles. So I am looking forward in seeing the next generation Ninja Turtles family. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Next Generation.
I wonder why at this point the title wasn't re-phrased, The Mutant Ninja Turtles because they left teenage a LONG time ago. Michelangelo was over 50 when he died.

In the normal comic book universe, Splinter died and the Turtles created the Splinter Clan to train new mutant animals that began to emerge in New York.

0:46 okay so it's a comic book or a graphic novel now I don't understand why they don't take some of these stories if they're really good make them in the cartoon films and they can do spin-offs of different directions of completely different stories look what they did with the Halloween franchise it went from Halloween with Jamie Lee Curtis all the way up to Halloween Resurrection. Then Rob Zombie did his own story. Then they went all the way back from Halloween 1 and 2 and made basically 3 + 4 and basically took everything else out. I wouldn't mind them going back to Resurrection and going forward from the original story. So if they can do that with Halloween they could do it with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I think that would be awesome if they made a dark and more adult Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that would be awesome. And I believe they would do very well because all the kids that watch this are now grown up so it would sell they don't have to go for the younger audience sadly we are the audience and we're old now LOL

It’s like they kinda get remade but as new turtles. They betray some of the same stuff as the last but are different. Then instead of a new splinter we have Mickey/last ronin be there leader. Kinda cool right?
Hmm I really wanna know if they ever do make a sequel with the new turtles will they still be the same ones like reincarnation kind of like the idw backstory or will they be all new ninja turtles with new mask colors and weapons and different personality’s I feel like they’ll go more with the second option but I think the first one is very interesting

Good coverage man, but this is the type of stuff that drove me away from them in the past to be honest. I rather read Lard's stories over Eastman's because Eastman just seems like a pre-teen edge lord that forgets what he is writing. They are four Giant Turtles; not middle aged angry men. A lot of the "dark" and "OMG" moments just don't make sense. Ralph is a f'ing turtle-- you know how fast turtles are in the water?
Out maneuvering Ralph in the water isn't "dark"; it's dumb. That's like beating a dolphin in a swimming race. Eastman has a big problem with ignoring or forgetting his characters for the sake of "edge". It gets cheap, it gets dumb and it makes them look a lot weaker than the "last time the turtles were killed/defeated/lost/etc whatever edge lord trash Eastman torture porn them through".

Is the last Ronin main Ninja turtles Earth continuity or is it an alternate Earth storyline I asked because I want to know if the main Earth belonging to my four favorite radical dudes is a doomed future where three of the four heroes and a half show will lose their lives please tell me that this is not there mainstream Earth because I have not yet read any of these books and I don't mind a spoiler or two
Ive seen in an interview lately from writer of the story, Tom Waltz, that originally it was planned that these would be the main original turtles from the black and white Mirage comics from back in the day. But during production something changed and that they ended up becoming their own unique version of the turtles not connected to anything else. Although they still say this version "leans heavily" on the Mirage Turtles.
