I remember being in middle school and freaking out over the Zac Posen Barbie, because most designers who worked with Barbie were a lot more established, since he was kind of the wiz kid of the fashion world at the time. I couldn’t afford the set, but I vividly recall how excited I was to see it.
The collaboration Barbie X Baby The Stars Shine Bright is such a funny doll, because Barbie is waaaaay too proportionally long for the dress. I think because the dress set was designed to be sold separately from the doll they didn't really bother with her styling, but she always stands out as one of the most awkward barbies I've ever seen.
As a lolita, I want that doll so bad, it hurts.

if the outfit had a better fit and if they gave her better shoes + socks she would've been an all time favorite for me 😭
I think also the fact that her hair wasn't styled and the face sculpt at the time make her super awkward looking. She would look great with a superstar sculpt face and some styled hair I think!

the juicy couture 2-pack from 2004 has been on my grail list since i started collecting dolls so i am forever manifesting that i find it for a good price someday, esp since i recently happened upon one of the versace barbies (the versus one which wasn't featured i this video) at a thrift store of all places

I was hoping for Lilly Pultizer Barbie! She's one of my grail dolls and is wearing this very early 1960s shift dress and has huge Jackie O sunglasses. (Jackie Kennedy, I guess, if it's the early '60s.) And there's a Stacy doll that comes with her too! They were a Silver Label release in 2005.
I was also wondering if you were going to do some more of the one-off mid-90s designer Barbies - Calvin Klein (the one with all the jean fabric), Ralph Lauren, Donna Karen.
Anyway, this was still a great video. I didn't realize Vera Wang had done as many dolls for Barbie as she has.
I absolutely loved the video, the only complain I have, is that it felt kind of short... I wanted more designer Barbies xD

One of my favorite Barbie collabs is with Tokidoki by Simone Legno in 2010 and then again in 2015. She was actually the first Barbie to feature a full tattoo sleeve and I love the designs 😽

Versace Barbie has a special place in my heart. When I was a kid I moved from my home town to another city and I had strong attachments to it since I was born there and grew up with my cousin. My fam doc was still in my hometown and the waits were loooong. They had a shelve full of magazines and I always went for this one that had the Versace Barbie ad in print along with a perfume sample (idk if they still do those btw maybe I’m giving away my age 😂) but I’d stare at that page for hours! She was sooo beautiful I’d never seen a doll like her and I scoured the Barbie collector site. Of course she was both sold out and out of budget for 7 year old me 😅 but I’ve always wanted to have her.
I was just going through the magazine rack at Barnes & Noble recently and not a single magazine had perfume samples. Are those already obsolete? 😢

Love this! I’m a huge fan of fashion so Barbie herself is my jam, let alone all the great designer colabs. I also appreciated the “luxury brand” colabs with Burberry and Coach. I would LOVE to see a colab with Gwen Stefani and her Y2K L.A.M.B. collection. 🤩💕😍
The Zac Posen set is really neat, I'd love to have, but starts at $1937. CAD. I just bought the sewing studio doll from Amazon for $33.CAD. ; ) I'll swap out the doll for a mtm one with a CEO face, then she can get to work designing! : D

The 2004 Juicy Couture barbie 2-pack set is my favorite of the designer collabs (Anna Sui is a close contender). I just really love that there's two girls and they are fully decked out in the iconic JC green and pink color combo and come with a tiny dog
I've always wanted to have one of those Moschino barbies but as the time goes by i fear their vinyl/pleather outfits will start to crack and I'll be spending 500$ for a flaking outfit. I actually have one of the guo pei dolls, blue and gold lunar new year. I got my chance to buy her when mattel creations had their black Friday sale last year. I rerooted her to have longer hair and a hime cut.
I also have the first mackie holiday angel. Once again mainly bought her for the doll herself lol! I can't think of many designer barbies i want, Moschino are the ones i like most cause the style fits with barbie's general aesthetic so well!
One that i was surprised by and want to get eventually is Pottery barn kids barbie. She has the most adorable pijama set. Granted we got a similar set for the barbie movie fashion pack but that one fits more loose (I still love it and i have my rewind schooling around Steffie doll wearing it)
The Aleali May fashion pack is one that comes to mind that i actually really like and wanna get sometime.
As a guy who grew up with fps games, action figures, and WWE. I really love this channel!

The Tarina Tarantino doll is a strong contender for favorite Barbie in my collection. There are only a couple that might edge past her, for purely sentimental reasons. I reeeeeeeally wanted the Anna Sui Barbie back when she first came out--in retrospect I regret not making more of an effort to acquire her at the time. Other designer Barbies I love are the Todd Oldham collab from 1998, and some of the spectacular dolls Brian Lars created in the late 90s/early 2000s, especially Sugar and Mbili.
This was so fun! I had no idea there were so many Anna Sui dolls, and those were my favorite, along with the Tarina Tarantino one. As for what designer I would like Barbie to work with, now I really want a Betsy Johnson Barbie. That would be so fun.
I have that Billyboy's "Barbie the Golden girl" book, or what was is called. 🙂The writing is atrocious, but the photographs are amazing.

The Bill Blass barbie was stunning!! There was one that was a colab with believe it or not a very high end fancy brand of dishes that are mad expensive but I can't remember the name exactly. Of course the Mackie dolls are my favorite
The Vera Wang bridal Barbie was the first Barbie I ever bought that wasn’t movie- related. I usually only bought the celebrity or Hollywood Barbies But that combo of the hair and the face on that Barbie made her look almost angelic. Looooove her!

Bro, how can you leave out Byron Lars? Not only are those dolls iconic representations of Black Culture, but the collaboration lasted years. Maybe people dont know about that collection because many of them only came in dark skin tones.

It's pretty wild to see Moscino here after having only known them from their sims 4 collab. It was Not well resived, they announced the collab on a stage infront of super excited sims fans - yet they got meet with COMPLETE silence. Maybe the pack would've been remembered more fondly if it had had Moscino's moren out there dresses and nicer make up.
You should do a video on the fashion influences on dolls like Rainbow and Monster High :)

i used to get the collector catalogs back in the day when they were still issuing them, i remember the loubiton ones VIVIDLY.
but my favorites were always the Byron Lars 2011 ones. Sugar was my favorite, but oh, the whole collection is stellar, so much detail in the hair and clothes and even the makeup! honestly, just an incredible juxtaposition of shapes and fabrics! truly worth checking out if you haven't, tbh
Omg that 2004 Versace barbie!!! Me and my cousin entered a Barbie fashion design contest and the price was this barbie! My cousin won, and I thought it was unfair bc her mom helped her make the barbie's outfit.... We were 5 and 6 years old at the time and I got Clickits jewerly as consolation prize. Idk if there were different categories for adults and kids, but I remember how amazing the adult collectors creations were. I remember thinking how weird it was that you couldn't take the barbie's dress off or even pose her 💀 My cousin kept her as decoration but idk if she still has it somewhere.

I did a long time ago! It was before my channel was monetized and I was less conscious of copyright stuff, so I had to private it after it got some claims on it

Fashion brands I would love to see collab with Barbie is Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Iris van Herpen, Mugler, Victor & Rolf (Tulle collection), Tom Ford, Gucci (not the branded stuf but the more retro 60's/70's), Tom Brown (for Ken), classic Chanel.

As much as dunking on Barbie has become a trend nowadays amongst doll enthusiasts, we can't deny how much of an absolutely legend she has become
I would love to see you talk about barbie's unnoficial designer collabs (the dolls that take inspiration from real designers but aren't labeled as such). The biggest example I can think of are the numerous references to Alexander Mcqueen in early 2010s barbies (such as silkstone darya dressed in fall 2010, 2010 holiday and hb vampire both dressed in fw 2008, silkstone walking suit possibly inspired by fall 2009)
So many fabulous collabs! I do wish you had also featured the Byron Lars dolls, as they are exquisite. And why did you introduce me to that incredible Zac Posen playset, which I've just found goes for $1,500 and up? 😫

There's actually suite a few pictures out there of the 1993 wax replica of barbie and the original (much more gold toned) outfit. Much bigger hair for that outfit too, I wonder why the mass produced doll has such a tight bun look.

I love your videos. They are always insightful and interesting. If you want to see the gold Christian Dior dress on a model, look up Jerry Hall (Mick Jagger's ex). She wore that dress on the runway and looked stunningly beautiful. I don't understand why they made the Barbie doll version with an "Evita" type bun, when Jerry Hall wore her signature long hair cascading from one shoulder. Even the makeup is more dramatic on Jerry Hall. But do look her up. You'll see what I mean.

3:37 I paused you here and went to watch All Dolled Up from Season 2 Project Runway. They used My Scene. They used all blondes. One contestant refused to use the blonde wig. The judges comments on his reason why is so then and would be atrocious this day and time. Love the fashion aspect.
