If NSW are confident in their team, we always hear “ you guys thought you had it won before the series, that’s why you don’t understand origin”.
If NSW are critical of selections, we always hear “ QLD back their team no matter what, that’s why NSW don’t get origin”.
@@nswblues3146 If QLD aren't winning Origin then Origin is dead. QLD has to be winning Origin otherwise it's lost all its meaning. Precisely because NSW just don't get it.
I think the underdog status comes from the fact that nsw are shorter odds by the bookies. Year after year nsw are favourites but qld seem to win

I’m not sure why Walsh is being given higher regard here. Ponga has done far more in the origin arena than Reece.. RW is still a bit of an unknown long term at origin level. Ponga is a much bigger body as well.

Ponga is more consistent but Walsh’s roof is higher,
Walsh did the job in 2023, he keeps the #1 jersey. Ponga would make a fine 14, which he's done before
Ponga is the current Dally M winner and leading the points this year. He's not just the best Qld fullback, or the best fullback in the NRL, he is currently ranked as the best player in the game. Walsh scores tries, Ponga wins games.

@@troycoe7990 Sorry, should clarify the comment. Game 3 2022, he won man of the match for pretty much single handedly taking the game by the scruff of the kneck and winning the game and series. And ten straight after his return to make the finals last year wasn't a bad effort.
I am sure Billy will work it all out when the time comes. I have total faith in the Queensland coach.

There wont be a bunch of new forwards. We only have to cover for Tino missing. Flegler, Collins, Cotter, Carrigan, Fifita, Nanai and Fotuaika will all be there. Then you've got one spot to be filled by either Kaufusi, Arrow, Welch, Horsburgh, Hopgood, most of whom have played Origin.
Pick your best 17 and then worry about where they play on the field. Ponga has far fewer head knocks left to spend than young Walsh. Ponga is brilliant but gets stunned a lot easier these days if he cops a good solid whack in a tackle... Might sound cynical but I wouldn't play him at starting fullback for Origin for that reason alone. Play him fresh off the bench after the torrid forward battle eases off and defensive fatigue kicks in for mine. Also Tedesco has now been concussed and left the field 10 times overall... 7 times in the last 3 years! Notice how the incidents seem to get closer together the more concussions you rack up? Maybe the stats prove me wrong?... Loyalty and good form will see Teddy picked and Edwards play wing... Teddy says he has no post concussion problems (yet) but even so, his brain has 10 severe whacks in the bank right now. How many is too many? We're talking brain trauma, not tight hamstrings or dodgy knees... May the league gods watch over and protect them all,.. and may the games administrators get the balance between duty of care and dignity of risk right for the sake of all players and their families ...

If they put Kalyn in the middle there will be a high chance of injury because the amount of head knocks he's had defending in the front line.

It's simple , pick your best players.Ponga and Walsh HAVE to be in the same side. If Slater doesn't pick both he's stupid.
Barring injury or suspension, Queensland would foolish to NOT pick him. When he’s firing on all cylinders, he’s too good to leave out of any side. But… That’s just my opinion.
Surely 1. Walsh Kalyn in the centres with Hamiso. Also gonna be very hard to leave one of Coates cobbo or Talungi off one of the wings
Cobbo is mediocre and lazy. Strong Latrell vibes. Turns up once every 6 weeks. Ponga isnt a centre.

Walsh 1, Hunt 9, Grant 14 & Ponga 17, will all play in Game 1 imo. Billy will gamble and find room for all of them

@@Mikehunt-lv6zf that’s the beauty of having versatile players like Hunt, who can play anywhere in the backline, hooker, second row, lock and Cotter plays front row, lock, second row. Collins proven he can play big minutes, as well as Carrigan who plays lock and front row. I’d love to see Ponga at lock and attack down his favoured left side & Walsh attacking down his favoured right side. Can’t worry about injuries, just pick your best side

Well Ponga could play centre, even 5/8 , wing or lock. Reece could fit into centre or 5/8. I`d have both in for sure.
I'd suggest positionless football. Put the number 3 on his back, but let him roam offensively like a second fullback. League is a tad primitive when it comes to stubborn positional play
And where exactly do you defend him? His front line defence is poor.
