So beautiful and peaceful - yet full of emotions and homesickness... Makes me almost cry every time I hear it...

I've never listened to anything by Hank Snow, though I recall hearing his name or seeing his record albums in stores of my childhood, many decades ago now. If the singer ever had his own country music TV show, or guested on others, perhaps I saw or heard him in passing but no recollection. I've only just recently discovered the poetry of Robert Service, having no idea that he specialized in commemorative ballads of his years in the Yukon. I've really enjoyed what I've read so far. As for Snow's recording heard here, I enjoyed the hollow, echo effect as he read the poem, which I recognized from my own recent delvings into Service, whose poems bounce along pleasantly with vivid imagery & zingy, zesty rhyming schemes. It was Interesting & fun to hear it done this way by Snow!

How could anyone thumbs down Hank Snow & Robert Service? Must be soulless creatures.

Hank seemed to be born to do Robert Service justice.

My grandfather turned me toward Robert A Service... I never knew what poem was his favorite, but I think this may have been it.

Is this a reading about a man seeking the gold ,or a man seeking the meaning of life?......or both at the same time ? I suppose t'depends on what stage of life you are at, but the spirituality it touches, is common in all religions.
I listen to this most mornings after my breakfast..... I've been to the Yukon once whilst travelling. Loved it. .......Make it happen, I need to revisit before I get too old.
    Have a great day

"...was it famine or scurvy... I found it..." -(that's what I'm hearing in this version)
There's another that said "...i fought it..." (not sure which is saying it correctly)

A lot of bitcoin people sing this same song as the boat sinks. Some things never change.
