    HI Mr Matt, you have helped me a lot to get through the challenges and the stress of applying to university, especially those as prestigious as Oxford. Hopefully, I get into the course I applied to, and if I do, then it is mostly because of the guidance you provided. Thank you very much again, I really hope more students discover your channel earlier than I did!

    These videos has helped a great deal in overcoming my worries about not being good enough, that studying where I want to is not a dream but actually a reality! I haven't had the best or top grades in my school ever in my life but I do qualify for what I want to study, even if barely so. So I am not giving up. Even if I do not get in the experince of applying and having something to strive and look forwards to has and will continue to be amazing. Thank you so very much Matt! I'll be starting at Oxford in two weeks. Even after I got my offer I have continued to watch these videos because I highly respect what they do and I often feel better about university life from these videos; I hope your attitudes are fairly representative of the university as a whole.

    Hey there! I’m a year 11 Italian student who would love to study PPE at Oxford. I just wanted to leave a comment to tell you how much the videos that you are posting are helping me. They are an inspiration and a reference point. Thank you so much and I hope one day learn at the uni and meet you.
    Ever since young I have always been a curious individual and I persevere with whatever target at hand.
    I would like to kindly ask you what are some extra/super curricular activities I could do to point towards Oxford.
    I know you are a tutor in politics so even if you have some book of podcast recommendations I would be so grateful and very happy to read/ listen to them.
    Thank you so much once more.

      Thanks for your kind message! Be sure to practice the TSA test, as that is a good predictor of who is admitted for PPE: www.youtube.com/@JesusCollegeOxford1571/search?query=tsa
      For super curricular readings, it's important to find something that you are passionate about. Think about an area of politics that you find interesting for whatever reason, and find a podcast or book that is likely to stretch you intellectually on that subject. Be sure to give plenty time to think about it. See here: czcams.com/video/n-AX481Anlg/video.htmlsi=oXSvaXl1rcpm1sMM

    Love your videos, but I must say that the counter to reason 3 doesn't really apply to international students. UG physics is 48k+ per year compared to 37k+ of Cambridge's NatSci, and that's honestly one of the biggest reasons I'm unfortunately leaning towards the latter more despite how awesome Oxford sounds.

    About the myths and the Cambridge-Oxford slander, I notice from discussions online that it's very common for Cambridge students to dismiss Oxford ("piss easy to get into", "fake course" etc.) but quite rare for Oxford students to dismiss Cambridge. Might you know why that is? I find the dynamic quite interesting albeit very disappointing

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  Před 9 měsíci

      I don't know. That sounds interesting. I practically never hear anything bad said about Cambridge in Oxford, so it is a bit of a shame if it's slightly more common in Cambridge. Although, I suspect it's not very common there either.

    Hi Mr. Matt! I'm only in 9th grade but I am a goal oriented person so I am researching about Oxford since it sounds like a interesting and prestigious school. I'm from the Philippines and based on my research International students fees are like between £33,050 and £48,620 which cause 2-3 million of money in my country and... I don't have that money.

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  Před 9 měsíci +1

      There are some scholarships and bursaries for international students: www.ox.ac.uk/students/fees-funding/search But it is sometimes easier to obtain financial support as a graduate student, and we find that many more international students apply to Oxford after having studied somewhere else first of all.

    Hi Dr. Williams. Currently applying from the USA for PPE and all your videos have been so helpful. I'm mostly working on prepping for the TSA (ahhhh) but also know that I have to choose a college very soon. You've mentioned that you've worked at a lot of the colleges, could you tell me your impression of New College and Trinity College? Thanks so much! - Anna

      Hi Anna, thanks for your comment. Both colleges are lovely. I'm not great at giving advice on college choice, I'm afraid, because I think they're all pretty awesome! New College is very big and grand, Trinity College is smaller and has prettier gardens. The education is exactly the same of those colleges, of course. Probably best to pick based on gut instinct and any facilities that may be important to you: www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/colleges/college-facilities-table

    Good morning Professor. I’d like to ask more about Oxford’s tutorials as I know they’re renowned for being very small groups of students and one tutor however (I’m unsure if this is purposeful or I simply haven’t done sufficient research) I can’t find much information on how the process actually works. Is it just like normal tutoring (e.g for the 11+) but for the university course or is it its own system? Furthermore are the tutors often swapped and brought in from outside the university and specialists or from other colleges, or is it primarily/entirely a single tutor for every tutorial? And, in addition, does each college have a different style/system of the tutorials or is it very rigid (apart from the tutors personal style of teaching affecting the tutorial). Also is each tutor randomly allocated to students, is there some sort of process for that and can you change tutors if you feel their teaching style doesn’t work for you? Sorry for the numerous questions but I’d be grateful if you could answer or redirect me to some source that answers them (or as many as you can). Thank you for the video and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day!

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  Před 9 měsíci

      Thanks for your questions. Oxford tutorials focus on a piece of work that you would have done - such as an essay or problem sheet. You, the tutor, and one or two other students will discuss how you tackled the work and what you came up with. It's therefore not so much like 11+ tutoring, because there's more of a focus on your ideas and how you would develop them.
      The tutors are not swamped. We have an excellent student to tutor ratio. We do not typically bring in specialists from outside the University, but you are quite likely to be taught by specialist at other colleges within Oxford. Depending on what modules you pick, it is rarely possible for your college to cater to all specialisms, and we want to make sure you get the best possible education.
      You would have a single tutor per course (8 weeks). It is possible to change your tutor, but this is exceptionally rare.
      The format of tutorials is standardised across the University. Tutors will have some mild variations in style, but there are not significant differences.

    hello! Regarding the joint honors degrees, Do you study both subjects independently ?
    What i mean is : do you study philosophy alone without going back to physics?
    or do you study philosophy only when it is relevant to further your understanding of physics ?
    Also another question
    Do the qualifications ( requirement ) required to qualify for any given course, apply to international students, or do you need it's equivalent to be considered for a position?

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  Před 9 měsíci

      Hi there, For joint honours degrees you study the two (or three) subjects separately, but the interactions between them can be explored in particular modules. In the example of physics and philosophy, you would have instruction in both independently, but would also consider their overlap.
      With regards to how international qualifications compare to the entry requirements, please see here: www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/applying-to-oxford/for-international-students/international-qualifications

    Hi Dr Matt I am a student from India intending to apply for the PPE course this year.I have a keen interest in the subjects and have many supra-curriculars related to them as well. I have very high standardised test scores and am sure to do well on the TSA but however may miss the predicted requirement in a subject for ISC/Indian Equivalent of A Levels. Would this be a significant impediment to my application ? I am sure I can meet the requirement during the actual examination. Thank You

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  Před 9 měsíci

      Hi Krishna, thanks for your comment. Typically applicants will be expected to be on course to obtain the necessary grades. If you are not predicted to be on course to get those grades, your application is not likely to be successful. However, if you do obtain the grades, you can apply then with the results and all should be fine.

    Hi Dr Williams, I was wondering, am I allowed to apply for two similarly related courses at Oxford on UCAS? e.g. apply for Philosophy and Theology as well as Theology and Religion. I'm sure there is overlap between the two degrees, but what would the Dept of Theology and Religion make of someone applying to both? Is this allowed and if so, would it affect my application and likelihood of being accepted into either course? Many thanks.

    Hi sir,
    Hope this comment finds you well
    I am Indian student who wants to study PPE at Oxford. I have taken Economics at my school along with Maths and subjects like commerce, Accountancy and English language and literature.
    Additionally I am planning on giving APs in Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Stats , Comparitive politics and World History.
    I have started preparing for the SAT and of course the TSA.
    I have started reading books like Freakonomics , Platos republic , a few books by Marx and The Prince by Machiavelli.
    I additionally am planning on starting a research paper on developmental or micro economics.
    I received a 94% in my 10th grade exams and will work hard to get more than that in my 11th and 12 th grade.
    Sir so my question is what else do you think I should do in order to become a better applicant.
    Thanks very much,

Otherwise it looks like you've got a good range of interests that you can talk about in your personal statement. No, the level of score needed to be competitive will change from year to year. Test takers will be sorted into quartiles (top 25%, second 25% etc). For PPE, a good score is usually ~70% or better, but even this varies a great deal.
