    Great video Aida. Yes I grow my own Ajíces Dulces, Culantro, Ají Caballero for our fermented Ají called "Pique." This Boricua love's to kick it up a notch and in California you cannot find any of the items mentioned.

I normally plant the sweet peppers (ajies dulces) outdoors during the Memorial Day Weekend. I enjoyed the video. I would like to share a recipe that some Cuban friends have given me. Take a handful of ripe aji dulce (Gustozo) and place them in a canning jar and place the cover. Fill the jar with white vinegar. In a couple of weeks top off the jar again. Let the peppers sit for a month or more. The flavor is extraordinary, truly enhanced 100%. The vinegar and the aji will make your dishes stand out. Since then, I do not care too much for any other peppers. What flavor! Enjoy

      Hi Angel, I initially purchased the seeds at Amazon many years ago. On the search field at Amazon, just type ajíes dulces and you will get a list from different vendors. I have been reusing my seeds from the ajíes dulces that I grow so I haven't purchased any seeds for many years. I heard that you can purchase these seeds at Etsy. I am not sure about Ebay but you can do a search using google and I am pretty sure it will direct you to many websites. The sweet peppers that we use are called "ají dulce" or "ajicitos." The Dominicans call them "ají gustoso" and the Cubans refer to them as "ají Cachucha." They are from the sweet perennial peppers known as "Capsicum Chinense." Thank you for sharing your recipe from a Cuban friend.

      Hola, Yes, I keep the plants on a stand until May where 2 heat vents are located at each corner. I tried one year with heat mats and was unsuccessful. • @AidasKitchen
      @AidasKitchen  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hola, Depending on the condition of the seeds, it may take three weeks or just over a month for the seeds to start to germinate. If I see that there are no growth within a month, I usually plant new seeds in pots. When I initially plant the seeds in January, I plant the seeds in at least 10 pots because some will grow and some will not.

Si los ajies dulces están en tiestos, pues debe entrarlos en la casa hasta que se recuperen. Si están afuera en el huerto (plantas en la grama), tápelas para que no le caiga más lluvia hasta que se recuperen.

      Hola Nancy, Si las matitas están separadas bastante en el mismo tiesto, cuidadosamente trate de separarlas con sus propias raíces. Que las matitas y raíces quedan intactas para poder sembrarlas en su tiesto individual. Si están bien unidas, trate de salvar por lo menos una matita con su raíz. Es más fácil para mi separar las matitas con mis propias manos. Que tenga un buen fin de semana.

    • @AidasKitchen
      @AidasKitchen  Před 2 lety

      Hi Janell, I normally put 2 seeds in a pot (it does not matter if the pot is small or large) to make sure at least one of the seeds will germinate. If both seeds germinate, then I pull one out to allow the other to grow fully. However, if your plants are about 2 to 3 inches tall in one pot, I would remove them and transplant to individual pots. When I have one plant growing in one pot, they will grow taller and faster because they are not competing with the nutrients.

Once they are dried, I place them in a plastic container to initially plant the seeds in pots indoors. If I purchase the ají dulce seeds, I also keep them dry in a plastic bag or container until I am ready to plant them. I do not wet the seeds at all nor do I wrap them in aluminum foil before planting them.

      It's been over 5 years that I initially purchased the sweet peppers online. In fact, some were very hot and were not the correct ones even though the picture and title appeared to be exactly our sweet peppers. When this occurred, I called my best friend in Puerto Rico and she mailed me some sweet peppers. I removed the seeds from the sweet peppers and plant them every year. If you know of anyone that lives in Puerto Rico, you might want to ask them to mail you some sweet peppers. On my website, I have a post on how to remove the seeds and package them for the following year to plant them indoors.

    • @AidasKitchen
      @AidasKitchen  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Hola, It depends on the size of the plant. If my ají dulce plants grow about 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide, I might harvest about 5 pounds of ajies dulces from one plant from July through October. I plant my ají dulce plants in the ground when they are 6 inches tall (indoors). However, if you keep them in the pot, you will only harvest at least 10 to 12 ajies dulces periodically.

    I haven’t gotten a pepper from my aji dulce all year. I put it in my greenhouse and it’s still not fruiting. Any idea why?

    • @AidasKitchen
      @AidasKitchen  Před 2 lety

      Hi, Do you have a single plant growing in each pot? Is your temperature 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit? Is the moisture and nutrition of the soil maintained? Did your plant produce any flowers? Is the soil too wet? Did you purchase the right seeds? Ajies dulces are tropical plants and need the right environment to grow. Once I plant my seeds (end of January), using a starter kit, they are kept indoors (by a window with direct sun and water when needed) until it is time to transfer the plant outdoors (when they get at least 6 inches tall) into my garden after the last day of frost. During the first three months (indoors), the seeds start germinating and when they are transplanted into my garden, they start growing, flowering and producing fruit within two to three months. Lack of water, nutrition and adequate outdoor temperature will prevent the plant from producing ajies dulces. If your plant is not flowering within 6 months of planting, it could be the seeds that are not good. I can only respond to your situation with questions based on the limited information you provided. Enjoy your weekend.
