My gateway to Ireland was Dun Laoghaire in 1988. Arriving on the Stena Columba (later renamed, Hibernia). I was aware the railway to Carlisle Pier had closed earlier, but despite passing through countless times, I have never seen the cutting nor the remains of the posts that held the level crossing gates. Well done for that. You learn new stuff every day. Did the track join up with the bay platforms at the current station, or elsewhere ?
I am indebted to you for your advice. Thanks.
