As a young architect in New Delhi in the last decade we had theorized on many such projects but deep down I never really imagined there will be enough political will to have one to these built. Dont get me wrong there are multiple EWS housing throughout India but they are never transferred to the poor. Pretty cool to see one actually go to the slum dwellers.

@@PseudoProphet i don't think they will be able to. EWS generally is privately built. Although they are supposed to be cheap they don't actually end up with the poor because the distribution is handled by developers. This on the other hand will have policy backing it up. Not saying it's impossible, just improbable. EWS are successfully sold to highest bidder because all of them are sold off (in real estate neighborhood also matters). Now that the housing is handed over I think the stigma of it being a slum redevelopment housing will save it

Well many may agree to this initiative and some might disagree but it is an initiative atleast to make India cleaner. Yes we all understand that people in slums might not have the knowledge to maintain it but if go back 50 years, we all were in the same situation. We learnt and still learning. I know people might hate my comment but paying tax anywhere in the world is a benefit or else situation will be like 🇻🇪 Venezuela. Now we also have to understand that things cannot change in few years and will take sometime. Atleast this is a Ray of Hope. Yes govt charge approx 1.42 lacs but that is not just for the flat but other amenities as well e.g. electricity, registration and trust me this cannot be free or else it will backfire. Service class will have to pay taxes and that is inevitable. Let's not make this great initiative look worst. Appreciate the efforts. Only thing to keep in mind is a timely survey if every memeber is staying in that flat and not creating another slum to stay.
