It doesn't matter how much padding you add if the cutout remains. In a years time the new padding will sink in again. For chairs like this I take a 1/4 thick piece of plywood cut larger than the opening. I fill the cavity with dacron until I get the desired fullness. I also glue dacron to the top of the foam. Screw the plywood to the cutout opening. The seat will be slightly firmer but you will not have to replace foam every year. Why they make such large cutouts in chairs knowing they will not hold up is a mystery to me. And honestly who wants to sit in a chair that feels like it's sinking in.

I totally agree with you and have no idea why they make a huge cutout it really doesn’t make much sense! When a customer comes into our shop we give them several options including closing the cutout and adding new foam which is always our preferred method. In this case the customer is on a budget and had 8 of these in a formal dining room that is only used occasionally and couldn’t afford the extra labor and materials, it would have doubled the price! Thanks for your input

Can I use the gorilla spray to attach Dacron to cushion foam instead of staples? Thanks!

Do you take the old fabric off the chair cushion? Or just put the new fabric over it ?

I always recommend replacing the foam which requires much more work removing a zillion staples but if your foam is still decent spray gluing the Dacron right to the existing fabric will give the cushion extra body!
