  • If you add Dacron to your foam do I need to cut the fabric larger? If I don’t add Dacron do you need to cut the foam bigger? These are the two most asked questions and I have your answers! Here are a few Amazon helpful links to purchase Dacron, spray glue and stapler I use to attach. Amazon is an affiliate and our channel makes a small percentage but you do not pay anymore for the products! Please see my other videos on how to add the Dacron.

    Thank you so much for these videos, a huge help. I am trying to refoam dining chairs from the bottom without reupholstering the chairs, the fabric is in great shape and the upholsterer glued the rolled edges to the wood. There are very loose strings underneath and the seats sag terribly. I was thinking of taking out the strings and canvas and replacing the foam with foam and dacron and screwing painted plywood into the recess up under the seat rather than rewebbing with string or trying to stretch elastic upholstry banding. This seems to make more sense because the upholstry is very well done with double rolled edges. Your consideration of this approach is appreciated.

    Thanks for the video- This helped me figure out the thickness of the foam that i should order. Are there various qualities of the Dacron batting too (not the thickness)- just quality in terms of what type feels better or..?

    I would like a 15cm pillow with a straighter aspect. Should I consider the thickness of the leather? The leather is 0.1 cm thick. The arm of my sofa is 15cm high and the cushion follows the height of the arm, hence my question.

    I've wrapped dacron around my cushion but want it to feel more plush. Would adding another 2 squares of dacron on the top of the cushion work?

    • @Factorydirectdesignersworkroom
      @Factorydirectdesignersworkroom  Před 5 měsíci

      You could add 1 extra layer and it may help but more than that will just compress, if it is a back cushion you can use thinner foam as a core and layers of Dacron to make it more plush, good luck!

  • @BradWillis
    @BradWillis Před 6 měsíci

    Just had an upholstery shop redo the foam cores on my sofa. It looks great, but he only did Dacron on the top & bottom & not on the sides, as we had discussed. I asked him why, and he said, "I didn't want to be concerned about the Dacron catching in the zippers. Does this even matter and does the explanation make any sense? Is it a big enough issue to take it back & have him wrap the sides?

    • @Factorydirectdesignersworkroom
      @Factorydirectdesignersworkroom  Před 6 měsíci

      The important areas for dacron is the top and bottom and as long as the cushions covers look tight your fine but he should have honored your request or give you valid reasons up front instead of excuses after the fact. The zipper getting caught really isn’t an issue I think he just didn’t want to spend the extra time!

    Thank you for your video, I wanted to ask you if it is unusual for the upholstery shop I contacted, to tell me they do not use batting on the dining chair seats I want to upholster. Just foam and fabric?

    • @Factorydirectdesignersworkroom
      @Factorydirectdesignersworkroom  Před 2 lety +1

      I always add Dacron to seat cushions, it gives the cushion softness and a crown. Although the upholsterer doesn’t normally he should be able to add by request and if he doesn’t have it in his shop I would stay away!

    Hi Scott, so I don't seam allowance to the fabric ?

    • @Factorydirectdesignersworkroom
      @Factorydirectdesignersworkroom  Před rokem +1

      Hi! You do not add any extra seam allowance for the Dacron wrap! For an example if your cushion without Dacron is 16” x 16” square you would cut your fabric 17” x 17” (1/2” seam allowance). Then you add the Dacron and it will make the cushion cover fit tighter but softer! I hope that explanation helps!

      Thanks for the quick response. I'm in the process of making four 45X18 5 inch box cushions that will convert into a bed in our mini van. My concern after receiving the 10 feet of 4 oz batting wouldn't be thick enough.
