Teacher Phill, can you tell me what type of questions do we get in the exam? Do they always ask just 3/4 questions or give us something to compare ,like advantages and disadvantages of something ?
The questions can be very different so I can't tell you exactly what you need to prepare for. Remember that you can also write a story if you don't feel confident about the article task.

You should always write around 100 words for each text in B1 Preliminary. When you do the exam read the task very carefully. It always tells you exactly what you have to do. :)

Thanks a lot for the video. Have a question regarding contractions in the article. The sample answers Cambridge provides use full forms, not contractions. Could you possibly clarify?
It always depends on the task and the target reader. If the reader is a teacher, for example, the article should be more formal. If the reader is a peer-group like other students, it can be more informal.
Thanks a million for your reply. The task states that you see the notice or the announcement on either an English-language website or in an English-language magazine. Can we use full forms not contraction?
hello Phil I had today my exam in B1 preliminary and I wanted to ask you about the writing part. Is it something bad if I wrote more than 100 words? So I wrote my Email abiut like 170 words. I answered all the questions but I just write it like usual how we do it in class. In my class level we are familiar to write long text and in the article part the same thing I wrote also there like 200 words because I liked very much the topic about the article and I just put my opinion and all the things there. Do you think that will make a difference when they correct it? Thank you very much for your response!
I haven't seen your text so I can't really tell you, but if you write so much more than 100 words, there is a chance that not everything is really relevant to the task. However, your text might be very good. If everything is relevant and you explained your ideas well, then there shouldn't be a big problem.
Is the final sentence part of the last topic paragraph or a separate paragraph?
I would separate it form the rest of the text.

I just did the b1 exam and during the 2 part (article) i asked to the examiner if paragraphs where important,
But she said that paragraphs wasn’t very important.
So what do you think about it?
Paragraphs are always better than no paragraphs. They are an important part of the organisation and structure of your writing. ALWAYS use paragraphs.

Hi Upa, a colloquial expression is an expression that we typically use in spoken English. One example would be to say 'I ate heaps of food last night.' Heaps is colloquial as we would normally say something like 'a lot'. I hope this example makes it a little bit clearer.

Thanks for the video, but how will the "interestingness" be measured? What interests me could be something far from that for you. Would you go further explaining this, please?
It's about the language you use. Adjectives and adverbs make your writing more interesting. Instead of saying "It's a mobile phone.", you can say, "It's a green mobile phone." The word 'green' already makes the description more interesting. I hope this answers your question. :)
