    I wish that I’d discovered John Doyle many years ago. Feels like time has been wasted.
    His guitar playing is awesomely natural. He plays it like how a Mongolian rides a horse.
    And such a lovely person in there also. 😍

    Doyle is pretty amazing - incredible musicianship. As I've watched other videos of the great Celtic, Breton and Bluegrass artists, I've noticed Doyle playing with all of them. Brilliant.

    Many record companies these days try to restrict access to any form of their music that doesn't directly generate them significant revenue. Either they have no trust in the quality of their music, the interest of their listening base, or frankly because they are simply idiots. I bought a physical copy of this album because I heard it on youtube first. Keep it up!

    From what I can hear...
    In the cold grey light of morning, after the deal had gone down, I awoke and shook all over - hoping a dram would bring me round. Well, I stared at the sight all around me; busted blue and faded grey. Men in heaps were scattered; men who fought and died the other day. Well, I live my youth in Connemara, roving from town to town. I shipped on board of the El Nina(?), to New York City I was bound. Not for honor, nor for country; we killed for three square meals a day.

  • @windshadow333
    @windshadow333 Před 12 lety

    For I saw my face there before me in the boy that I yew(?) down. He could have been a friend or brother; another exile from my town. Three thousand strong rose to fight them in Antietam’s ripening corn, but Fredericksburg was our undoing. Three hundred left to weep and mourn. Chorus x2.

    John how you doing bro? James here in Dublin. I run a second hand furniture warehouse now out here since the covid. Don't think I've seen the guitar in a year anyway... I took off today and I'm dedicating the whole day to the man that inspired me to play in the first place. (That's you btw) Love to you and the family. Hopefully I'll see you at the next cartoon bro. Sending you all the hugs.

    McMillan’s rebels, they fired upon us - shot and shell, buck and ball. Their green flag rose high above them as ours fell on the battle wall .Chorus. Well, hand to hand and face to face there a young rebel he charged me in the fray. I turned around and my blade went through him; I did the devil’s work that day.

      ***** It's a bit of a guess but DADGAD (low to high) is quite common for folky and Celtic-style music, could be that.

    • @bornlonesome7340
      @bornlonesome7340 Před 8 lety +1

      +Chase Murphy (ChaseMurphyMusic) CFCGCD (low to high) capoed 4 to bring it to the key of E.

      That's a good shout from BornLonesome. John Doyle does use that tuning on a few songs I've tried to learn since posting.

      He plays mostly in Drop D...

  • @Legertymusic
    @Legertymusic Před 12 lety

    I suspect if John used auto tune at all, it was in extremely small amounts and to fix minor details in already good takes. There is a lot of overdubbing and slick production value on the new album for sure, but I have heard John do everything he does on the album live as well as in the roughs of the recorded versions. Most trad players I know stay far away from pitch correction if possible when recording (myself included).

  • @newfjuggles
    @newfjuggles Před 4 lety

    Anyone know what tuning he is using here?

    • @GabrielHawkPot
      @GabrielHawkPot Před 4 lety

      It's CFCGCD, which is what he's mostly used for the last decade. Capo 2 gives DGDADE, which reveals that you've got an irish bouzouki tuning for the middle four strings :) .
