Saw him last month in Lancashire, UK. Awesome and one of the best folk gigs for a long while...everytime in future.
I don't think this is the John Doyle im looking for
Someone's gotta make those Commies Heck off
This is the only John Doyle that matters.
😅 heck off commie
.. hehehehe his music isn't bad
LMAO
@nova bitch country
Was googling the host of "Heck off Commie!" (Also named John Doyle) and came across this. Glad I did.
I wish that I’d discovered John Doyle many years ago. Feels like time has been wasted.
His guitar playing is awesomely natural. He plays it like how a Mongolian rides a horse.
And such a lovely person in there also. 😍
ok, this is epic
American Military History professor showed this in class today. A beautiful song and heartbreaking story.
Faugh a Ballagh!
not just this style, one of the best period.
Like fine Irish whiskey he's getting better and better as time passes by...
indeed
Amazing ... puts me in mind of Dougie MacLean, one of my all-time favorites.
How have I missed this gem of an artist ?!
brilliant guitarist.one of the best at this style .
John Doyle is the Irish Jimi Hendrix😉
With his moon face, he's the best singer/guitarist in Irish music I've ever heard!!!
+elisa louise Is the moon face the secret to it all?
Sergio Ribnikov Gunnarsson
:))))))) No, but it makes him very friendly!
True that :)
Here today because of Tony Polecastro's Acoustic Tuesday featured John Doyle. Holy cow, how did I ever miss this artist? Diving deep into the CZcams hole after John Doyle tonight.
Doyle is pretty amazing - incredible musicianship. As I've watched other videos of the great Celtic, Breton and Bluegrass artists, I've noticed Doyle playing with all of them. Brilliant.
Hi, can you share some names please? I'm trying to explore different kinds of folk. Especially if it's to the same calibre as JD.
Watched the show of a guy who studied under this guy for many years. Needless to say, it was a hell of a show. But he gave all props to this man, his teacher
Who ?
What a song Great Tribute to the Irish who defended our sacred Union
I love it! This is about the Irish Brigade in the civil war!
Faugh a Ballagh! From Sligo County,Ireland! Erin Ga Bragh!
I served with the fighting 69th. Honored to be a part of it! Garryowen in glory!
Fág an bealach. Pure class, Mr. Doyle. Clear the way, I need to buy this man's album!
The Irish Brigade lives on
Chokes me up every time I play it.
sounds beatiful
This song goes along with The Fighting 69th, NY Irish Regiment by the Fenians, et al. I hope Mr. Doyle will be at Merlefest on a regular basis.
Once again, John..you amaze and delight us with your musicianship and voice..
Magnifique et génial!! John tu es unique!!!!
This is SOOOOOOOOOO good! Heard "Clear the Way" the first time at Tonder Festival in 2010 and I've missed it ever since... So good to be reunited with this great song!
I saw John in Alexandria D.C. with Niall and Killian Vallely. Amazing entertainers, all of them. Glad to find this on youtube; now, if only I could find the one about the girl with long dark hair...
Many record companies these days try to restrict access to any form of their music that doesn't directly generate them significant revenue. Either they have no trust in the quality of their music, the interest of their listening base, or frankly because they are simply idiots. I bought a physical copy of this album because I heard it on youtube first. Keep it up!
Gotta Love it.
Masterful display from the big man.
brilliant!
Awsome playing and songwriting. Thanks to acoustic guitar magazine for introducing me to John.
Class!
Along with a guitar-playing he's a brilliant singer.
Bravo!
Thanks for this...Josh reminds me of Ralph Mctell
He's the best and more delicious I ever heard....
yo based
From what I can hear...
In the cold grey light of morning, after the deal had gone down, I awoke and shook all over - hoping a dram would bring me round. Well, I stared at the sight all around me; busted blue and faded grey. Men in heaps were scattered; men who fought and died the other day. Well, I live my youth in Connemara, roving from town to town. I shipped on board of the El Nina(?), to New York City I was bound. Not for honor, nor for country; we killed for three square meals a day.
For I saw my face there before me in the boy that I yew(?) down. He could have been a friend or brother; another exile from my town. Three thousand strong rose to fight them in Antietam’s ripening corn, but Fredericksburg was our undoing. Three hundred left to weep and mourn. Chorus x2.
Talented irish guitar player
Very nice performance ! Phalaïna
John how you doing bro? James here in Dublin. I run a second hand furniture warehouse now out here since the covid. Don't think I've seen the guitar in a year anyway... I took off today and I'm dedicating the whole day to the man that inspired me to play in the first place. (That's you btw) Love to you and the family. Hopefully I'll see you at the next cartoon bro. Sending you all the hugs.
Oi oi!! Love this song.
hew down, hew means to cut as with an axe or carve with a knife. Often used in thepassive voice hewn, as in "hand hewn furniture"
Noice 💚
I am in love with his music but I cannot find any tutorial, book or similar which can help me to build a similar sound
Just chords description would be satisfying
The guitars tuned to DADGAD I’m pretty sure for a start, if that helps!
Id love to find the lyrics
McMillan’s rebels, they fired upon us - shot and shell, buck and ball. Their green flag rose high above them as ours fell on the battle wall .Chorus. Well, hand to hand and face to face there a young rebel he charged me in the fray. I turned around and my blade went through him; I did the devil’s work that day.
His niece is one of my BFFs
+Matilda Bergström ask her about the tabs!
+svenlittlecross tell doyle its time to come clean ffs!
+Matilda Bergström Spelar hon lika bra? :)
Sergio Ribnikov Gunnarsson Hon spelar lite gitarr men jag tror John är bättre.
Det kan jag tänka mig eftersom han är bäst i världen typ. Men kult att höra att hon spelar gitarr med. ha det så bra Matilda :)
Im a lefty too XD
manca solo il cavallo in salotto
Anyone know what tuning he uses on this song?
CFCGCd
That intro he plays before the first verse is so cool! Something about it really moves me. Does anyone know what tuning he is in? I can't quite tell.
Chase Murphy drop d maybe
***** It's a bit of a guess but DADGAD (low to high) is quite common for folky and Celtic-style music, could be that.
+Chase Murphy (ChaseMurphyMusic) CFCGCD (low to high) capoed 4 to bring it to the key of E.
That's a good shout from BornLonesome. John Doyle does use that tuning on a few songs I've tried to learn since posting.
He plays mostly in Drop D...
I suspect if John used auto tune at all, it was in extremely small amounts and to fix minor details in already good takes. There is a lot of overdubbing and slick production value on the new album for sure, but I have heard John do everything he does on the album live as well as in the roughs of the recorded versions. Most trad players I know stay far away from pitch correction if possible when recording (myself included).
Anyone know what tuning he is using here?
It's CFCGCD, which is what he's mostly used for the last decade. Capo 2 gives DGDADE, which reveals that you've got an irish bouzouki tuning for the middle four strings :) .
All good-looking men are even sexier with earrings. Why would Irishmen be an exception?
Da Shite.
?
This song is metal as fuck.
Are you real?
I like everything about this fabulous Irishman--except his earring. Earrings don't belong on Irishmen.
will this help trump get re elected
wont hurt
Star of the County Down? But she has nut brown hair, so probably not...
