Don't let Gavin fool you, folks. He's just showing off his coach. 😁
Lol 😂 don’t forget my grass come on!!!😆
@@GeneratorReviews all look very nice!
Holy SH *T, that thing is absolutely insane!? Two AC's.... Get out of here. I bet he has several drivers rolling down their windows at a stop light asking "Excuse me, would you happen to have any grey coupon?" 😂
I got one from Costco last year for $600. I did the break in last summer and used it for 3.5 days a couple weeks ago for home with propane during power outage. It works great.
Awesome video ! I just picked this up from Costco for my RV. Thanks for showing us the sine wave and the amp draw. Good job ! 😀
It's been a great generator for me and got us through a power outage for 3 days. Love it!!
We have a 21 ft TT and have been looking for a generator, but don’t no much about them. So many different ones with different prices. Your video was so helpful, Costco has them on sale & your video helped us to buy this one. Firman Duel fuel 4000. Thank u so much!!!
You’re welcome ☺️
Hey Gavin, we just moved my wife's mom out to the ranch in an RV last summer, today she came to us asking about emergency back up power for her RV and showed us a sale on this generator at Costco. First thing I did was search your channel for a review, we will watch all three Firman videos with her tonight. Thanks for helping us out with your reviews.
You're welcome
Decided it was time to pull the trigger on a 2nd generator after watching this video. I snagged it at Costco for $599 on sale, might have to get another and the parallel kit. Great content as usual!
Are these still on sale do you know?
They're on sale this month at Costco @@derekbrooks6731
Fantastic video! I have the same one and plan to use it camping with our small tow behind 24' Jayco. One AC is all we have with one microwave. Thank you.
Thanks for another useful video. I just bought one of these at Costco for $600. Just finished the third one hour run followed by an oil change. The amount of metalic glitter in the first and second batch of oil made me glad I went through with this 3 change method. It’s easy enough to do and two quarts is plenty for 3 changes so not expensive just time consuming. Now it should last a long time hopefully!
You should use a magnetic dipstick to capture the metal debris.
@@billcsho i did order one from amazon. No way you’re going to catch everything I drained out with just a little magnet on the end of the dipstick but everything that helps is worth it so that’s why I ordered one
@@lkibbler I did the first oil change after 30 min no load run with break in oil additive. I saw metal debris in that first change. I filled it with synthetic oil and did the second oil change after 2hr run with varying load up to 50%. There were very little metal debris in that change already. Magnetic tip will capture some debris but it is the oil change that get rid of it. Debris on the tip is an indicator how much metal debris you have in the oil.
Hey, I just ordered one from Costco, so what am I supposed to do? Run it for 30 minutes. Then, do an oil change and repeat that three times?
@@guymoe81 Get the break in oil and magnetic dip stick before the first 30min no load run. After the first oil change, you can run it longer with some light load for longer before the second oil change.
Not too bad . Harbor freight has got a run for its money and competition with this model. These types of generators just keep getting better and cheaper overall
Agreed!!☝🏽💯
Thanks Gavin great video, the Firman did well.
👍 a very good video. I really love your work. Thanks.
I was Just looking at these on Sale at Costco! Was thinking of getting 2 of them to Tandem them together when Needed!
Thanks for the review. I have been seriously considering this Firman. I noticed Costco has this model for $200 off at $650. You can't find many in this output range for such a low price. Just too bad there is no remote start.
I agree that the remote start and Bluetooth is a must.
Fantastic review. Thanks
Great Video , very informative .
I just bought this for the little travel trailer I just bought. I got it on eBay (certified refurbished with a 2 year warranty) for $380.00. Fingers crossed 🤞
Me too😅
How was it
Everyone in Texas wants to know how has your refurbished gen set been, Com'on bro people need answers ?
@wilmatitzgreaux5086 well? Let us know if it is running good or ?
I just got one myself for 395. Refurbished. How's it going? I was a lil suspicious about it being Refurbished
Thanks for the video.... I have to say... you have some great videos... what is the Oscilloscope device you are using? I had heard folks say the Firman is not clean power but that's not what you scope is showing... good news... Thanks again for the video. One more question, what does the unit burn on propane? although it's a lower output... the ability to put a hook up from the Propane outlet on the RV would be a real nice feature....but how much propane does it consume at 80% or higher output level?
Wow I need two of these. One for my Rv and one for my home.
Good video!!👍
Thanks you for your review I just order my is for a travel Rv 21f micro lite flagstaff I think this one more them enough hope some can give any feedback or tips
I like the manual choke
I bought one of these within a week of you posting this video, and I tested it with some space heaters, and never really got a chance to take it on a trip with my travel trailer, which only has a single 13,500BTU AC. I finally tested it earlier this week, running just the 13,500BTU AC with ALL other breakers turned off, it runs fine, kicks the compressor on just fine, but about 5 - 10 minutes after the compressor kicks on, it goes into overload for no apparent reason. Firmans Level 1 tech support is not great for a problem like this because it's more complicated then the standard troubleshooting they read off their script. The guy insisted that based on some calculation he used, my AC would draw 3800 running watts, which was too much for this generator and there's nothing wrong with the generator...
Your video confirms what I already knew, that everything he was saying was incorrect, I ultimately got fed up with their tech support and initiated an exchange through costcos website.
I have soft starts installed on both of my AC. It makes the biggest difference.
Great stuff 👍 thanks for sharing. Here's maybe a good question for ya. Will the propane mode run off the propane from the rv if you have a propane tap on the outside of the rv? Or am I just way out of my mind? GOD bless you Sir. stay safe and healthy so you can continue to bring us this great information. ✌
Yes it will run of the rv propane tank
@@GeneratorReviews thanks for the quick reply. And the grass looks just as good as the rv but not as good as a zx636 ✌
excellent video thanks.
You’re welcome
Ever consider getting a softstart device? Prevents that crazy surge that happens when starting AC units and other devices. Will allow generators that have sufficient running watts, but that cannot handle that surge to start up your AC and other devices.
Absolutely a must I install soft start on both of my ac units and it was worth the money
I wish you would tell us outdoor temp & in motor home temps. That affects power consumption of ac units.
Can you show the wave on scope when loads are added / dropped?
That power monitor looks different from the one you built a while ago. Did you need to redo it or is this a different monitor?
That’s a different one. I have four variation to monitor different loads 120 V and 240 V 30 amp and the 50 amp versions.
Could you do a test on an inverter generator running out of fuel with a load plugged in? I'd like to know if they shut down safely enough to not damage devices if I forgot about it or while sleeping.
Ok I will do that test 👍🏾
GREAT Video! Whats that surge protector??

Thanks for the video. Curious were those 15K btu AC units.
13.5 btu AC
Thanks for the review , I just purchased one for this summer, I’m only gonna run the ac and lights on propane . You think it should handle it ? If I do use the microwave it won’t be for that long
I think it’s gonna be perfect. Even if the microwave is turned on at the same time for less than five minutes, it should be fine.
@@GeneratorReviews just enough time for some microwave popcorn for the kids lol
Hello. Question, You tested this on your Class A 50amp service motor home and you could run both AC's off the generators 30 amp plug.
My 50amp travel trailer has one AC on one 120volt leg and the AC on the other 120 volt leg. I'm wondering what your coach is to be able to run both your ac's off of one 30 leg?
I used a 30 amp to 50 amp adapter that allows you to do that.
Did I hear right, you have soft start on both units? Will this power up a 15k btu a/c without soft start, do you think? Also considering the 3650, which has 3300 running watts (not sure I need dual fuel)
Yes it will run a 15k without soft starts
Great review! Is that Amp / Watt monitor commercially available? What's it called? Or do you have a link?
czcams.com/video/bhNf33jNRvo/video.htmlsi=Mm2GyWwNzW1B2hpG
Does this model draw air in at the bottom where it can pick up dirt and destroy the cylinder head. One of the smaller Firman units is guilty of this defective design
No this one pulls air from the front and blows it out the back
When are you gonna start selling the Gavin Garage swag as well as sell some of that cool electrical cord goodie’s you always have
It’s already the website is ready for sale. I’m gonna start making them and selling them in my store and on my website.
Gavins-garage.com
Ive read that theres no break in for the new firman! So no need to run the generator for 5 hours before use. We must only change the oil after 25 hours. Is it true??
change oil after first hour why not? Gen break in all same these guys know
Would this generator be powerful enough to power a home during a blackout? For refrigerator, internet and tv?
Yessir but only 120v circuits since it doesn’t have 240v output
I just got this exact firman model and it overloads running just my single 15k AC unit on my RV. I'm going to install a soft start on the AC to help it out. Wondering how you're able to run 2 AC units....I'm guessing they both have soft starters on them?
Yes I do have soft starts
I own this generator. Would this adapter cable allow me to plug my generator into my 4 prong 50amp generator inlet box and power both legs of my main breaker as long as I had any 240v breakers and central HVAC turned off?
This generator is capable of powering everything in my house outside of electric stove, electric dryer and central AC so I'd rather not get rid of this very nice generator for something louder, heavier, more expensive just to get 240v to work with my generator inlet box
Yes you can just turn off all 240v breakers and it’ll be fine.👍🏾
I just got this generator and every time I start it and kick my AC on it puts the generator overload light on. Do you think it’s because I don’t have that bonding plug thing? It’s a 15k BTU
No it’s because you don’t have soft starts installed it would really help.
What was the 120V plug you installed into the 120v outlet that took away the ground fault? Just bought this gen today to run my two A/C in my RV...
That was a bonding plug
@@GeneratorReviews So it's just a standard 115v male plug that has the Neutral & Ground terminals connected together.
@@AZDodgeViper yep that’s it
What were the db readings on the firman? Trying to decide if spending more money for another brand is warranted to get something quieter.
If you’re looking for something quiet, this is definitely not your choice. It’s a good generator but It’s a bit on the loud side.
@@GeneratorReviews thanks for the reply. Do you have a recommendation for a generator that is quiet to run a travel trailer with one 15kbtu a/c? Dual fuel would be nice.
I would like to use this generator as an emergency unit for my house. Do I still have to use that grounding plug for an open ground situation? Thanks
No that’s just for the surge protector
@@GeneratorReviews what was that grounding plug called never heard of it but glad you pointed it out .
Can it connect to the RV propane quick connect (under the camper) right out of the box or do you need to adapt it somehow?
Get the adapters kit from Amazon

@@GeneratorReviews Thank you!
Where did you get that inline power meter? I need one of those!
czcams.com/video/OsbSIttSvk0/video.html
I made this one for testing my generator
I'm looking to buy one....How's it been holding up for you since this video?
It’s a good little generator like I said it’s just a little bit loud but it’s running great.
How do you turn it off? Great video.
It has a switch to turn it off
I'm new to travel trailers. I plug directly into my generator (Firman WHO3342), but when I turn on my AC unit, it will trip the 20A breaker inside the trailer. Are you familiar with this issue? Is there a fix?
Try connecting your travel trailer to shore power and perform the exact same test. If you have access to a different generator perform the same test
What other inline accessories (besides the sinewave) do you have connected?
Only the monitor and surge protector
@@GeneratorReviews I saw it later. It's your surge protector. Thanks
let us know where you got the GREY BOX Power Analyzer inline pug-in gizmo - thats a sweet device lets you see whats drawing
czcams.com/video/bhNf33jNRvo/video.htmlsi=X8uQ8zR3E7cJxtVj
Great video! Question. Can you hook up two of these together?
Accounting to a few comments it appears to be an option. Id love to have another one!!
Yes they are parallel capable
Oops *According....
I am struggling between the Firman and the Onan at my local dealer. With the sale price at Costco on the Firman the Onan is almost double the price thought it seems like the Onan is a little quieter? If you had to pick between the two which way would you go? Is not having propane as an option a big loss with the Onan?
The Onan is a quiet and more powerful generator than this one
@@GeneratorReviews I have a 50amp 5th wheel if you were going to get one which would you go with? Or should I look to something like the Genmax GM7250? I am not sure how often we will need it and would probably be able to get by with one A/C if needed or alternating. Appreciate your videos and your opinion.
Im curious why you would add the fridge when they can run off propane ?
It’s not a propane refrigerator most newer motorhomes come with all electric
Ohh.. That I wasnt aware of.. Thats why I asked.. THX
Can I use the bonding plug inside the RV?
As long as you have the ground and the neutral bonded it should work
can you connect a fuel pump to pump gas from the auxiliary gas tank of your RV into the Firman Generator fuel tank?
This is one of the only auxiliary electric fuel pump that I know of would probably work. You’d probably have to do some engineering.

@@GeneratorReviews ok thsnk you. But i have my oen 30 galon tank under my truck thst has already the gaz lime onnit. I have the fuel pump but will need do some modification
I got this machine for a cheap price it run great but the pull cord was broken, i took it apart and now it shakes and the idle switch doesn't work not sure why, chacked everything to make everything was plugged in.
Did you buy brand new or used?
@@GeneratorReviews used was working fine till I removed the pull cord
May I ask at what elevation you ran your test?
I’m in Texas
Gotcha thanks. For every 1,000ft in elevation 3% of power is lost on gas powered generators is why I ask.
Do you have soft starts on your ACs?
Yes I do
@@GeneratorReviews thank you, trying to figure out why my Firman 3242 generator bogs out and shuts off when trying to start my Coleman Mach 13,500 BTU AC.
Any idea on an NGK plug part #
I will show that in the next video
This or a champion? We have dual 14.5 furrion ac on our trailer.
If I had to choose between the two I would choose the champion
What are the watts for the ac’s?
13500 btu ac
Tested mine out this weekend. I turned it on and it ran for a few minutes then it just shut own. Smoke was coming out the back. I came to this video to make sure I was turning it on correct did everything the same. I put the oil it came with in it and filled it with gas. It was not super close to anything and plenty of wind. This was the second time I turned it on. First time was only for a few minutes as a test. It is kind of loud too at least I'm concerned about my neighbors(at RV parks). I bought it at Lowe's and it says below 60db. The "interweb" says 23' which this gentleman has done on the last try and it was not under 60 but, I am concerned about that smoke. It does look cool and I'll give it another shot this evening see if it still does it. Hate to have to take it back.
Sounds like you got a bad one I would take it back immediately.
Is it better to use LPG when possible?
yes less smell and less toxic crap. Both useful though
Wish I had bought this instead of the Predator 3500
Im waiting for either a Furman or Champion 240V dual fuel super quiet generator in the 6000 to 7000 watt range.
Tempting at the current Costco sales price, but it's loud; not just the exhaust note, but a lot of mechanical clatter along with it. You get what you pay for.
Is this in reference to this video or personal experience? Struggling between this and the WEN for a bit more when the prices are not inflated.
Jml is not wrong it’s just not as quiet as it could be but for this price point you can’t really afford to complain about the quality of the exhaust. You get what you pay for.☝🏽
@@marcuscameron4264 My brother owns one. I understand being on a budget, but if noise is important to you, this isn't your generator.
@@berettaguy7445 I agree, which Wen were you looking at?
@@shanew7361 I was looking at the WEN 56380i, but I am now leaning towards keeping my 2300 and getting another to parallel in the event of an outage or the rare occasion when I need to run my RV AC.
I need one for my mobile Italian Ice Cart
This or wen df451i? For home ?
I think the Wen
Can it be Paralleled?
Yes, it can be paralleled
Yes
I think your camera's microphone has noise suppression on, which makes it difficult to hear the true sound of the generator.
Just bought this. It will barely run microwave in my camper. Lights go dim on the microwave, and it slows. It will run one a/c some times other times it will not and just amp out and flash the over amp light. To even run the a/c i have to turn off every breaker in the trailer, turn on the fan, and then let the ac come on. It will only start my coleman 15k a/c that has 2800 starting amps. My other unit is rated at 3k starting amps. This generator will not start that unit at all. So far, im not super impressed with this unit. I didn't think i had super high expectations, but a 4k starting watt generator should run at least a/c that has 3k staring watts.
I need to install soft starts on your AC, especially having the 15 K
Absolutely junk bought 2 and Lowe’s won’t return after opening and company has a no return policy
Bro Firman has a return policy... they sell thousands of refurbished units all over the web, so you're mistaken.. 🤷♂️
