What is the significance of the sleeve stripes, some red and some gold?
Red is less then 12 years service, Gold for over 12 years
Gold indicates 12 years of "good" service in the US Navy. Red stripes indicate less than 12 years of service OR that the member had an NJP or other incident that prevented them receiving a Navy Good Conduct Medal. I can tell you that these members have never had a incident, so red simply means they have not yet reached the 12 year service mark.
Each stripe represents 4 years of service. After 12 years, or 3 stripes, if you earned "a good conduct award each time" the stripes change from red to gold. If you see someone with more than 2 stripes that are red, they got into trouble at some point in their service.
Luv the performance but who in the heck is occupying the ships??? All E-5's and above, really hope their staying proficient at their MOS's....
Ken, the NEC (Navy Enlistment Classification...our equivalent of MOS) for these sailors is MU for Musician.
So, in response to your question...they are staying proficient!

@@doowopnuts Yes, but the main audiences that military bands attract is still very much Vietnam era and older. And those generation are slowly dying out for obvious reasons.
Most bands use high school/college auditoriums because it’s typically cheaper than using a designated city performance venue.

THUMBS DOWN this is not music what on earth is it. This so called music is frightening if you can even call it music. It's more like hollaring through your nose or hog calling. Come on people you have lovely voices let's hear them. Listen to this screeching long enough and you will go tone deaf.
