- The theme for my preschool classroom this week was "Taking Care of our Bodies" so the OT lesson is about brushing our teeth and taking a bath to keep our bodies clean and healthy. This free and downloadable lesson works on fine motor skills and can be conducted individually and in whole-group OT sessions. First, students use a toothbrush to "brush" a laminated picture of a mouth with germs, next they wash their toys in a sensory bin for bath time. Easy and fun sensory exploration, all while discussing the importance of personal hygiene!

how to cater to an older teen. many issues arise with teens on the spectrum. even if you ahve introcuced and worked on these things when they were little. we need to start again. can you also post about how to adapt to older children with a visual schedule. flossing . personal hygeine, shaving etc. use of technology, etc
seconded! :)
I missed this one somehow!! Great printables … The OTR I work with does a fun tracking sheet with the student and at the end of the week- the student colors it in etc and pics from the treasure chest… we have a silly set of teeth( Dollar Store) that the student scrubs for fun… thank you… your creativity is always awesome!!
LOVE this idea Ellen! So so cool!
Perhaps incorporate a book / stories on tooth brush tasks…. Let the student engage in the sensory experience… perhaps no tooth paste on the brush initially as I found some teenage students not in favor of tooth paste… then slowly add a small amount of tooth paste…we use music as well and a small head tooth brush as not to set off any adverse reaction in the mouth… just a few ideas…
I love these ideas, Ellen! Thank you for commenting!!
