    Netting the chasing trigger like netting the paired robins. Amazing !

    Sea bass , ling ,and triggers are my opinion the best eating fish Jersey has that I've eaten. Fluke is excellent but winter and four spot flounder taste better. Awesome vid congrats on our first trig the big ones fight hard, my biggest was a 5.5 lb monster trig and won a pool with it party boat sea bassing 2014 one my top favorite catches!!

      That trigger was an interesting fish, both catching and cooking. Imo, the best tasting flatfish in our area is...sundial! haha

    Nice fish trip. Heavy weight,according with the drift current, keeps you from scoping out and allows the Fluke to ambush at the bottom.

      There's more to it than that. What works inshore/bayside is not working out in the ocean...bears more investigating for sure!

    Them dry boxes make for good tackle boxes every thing stays dry . I thought I was the only one that used one lol

    Sweet video. I was fishing out in cholera bank the other day found tons of sea bass. What nj reef was that?

    I’m so glad to see the size limit is 18 in. That’s when they start to get fat .down here in Florida it’s 12in.that sucks,also they let people gig for them which should be outlawed,so sad these fish can get up to 20lbs.and not lose there flavor.i wish there laws would change

    How was Chris jigging? The John Skinner fast jig or a slower lift and drop technique? Great video as always. Also, just an FYI, I limited out last weekend, and every fish came on the teaser! Lol

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  Před 6 lety

      From what I could see, it was an in-between cadence: steady short hops, definitely not rapid "jiggling," and no high lifts or pops. Maybe he'll chime in. Sure teasers catch fish, but a properly jigged jig...will catch bigger fish, 95% of the time, and more importantly saves net tangles and dealing with tons of shorts. Just mo, thanks for watching!

      @@CookingandFishing thanks for the reply. I do agree about the teaser, usually I don't use one and do pretty decent. Last weekend I was fishing in 70+ feet of water not catching much, then I got hung up and broke off. So I decided to throw a teaser on since I wasn't doing good, and believe it or not, every fluke came on the teaser after that. For some reason that's what they wanted that day. I was using a 4 oz jig, 6 inch gulp on top and bottom.

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  Před 6 lety

      I can see that. Usually if they're on the teaser bite a lighter jig tossed up current (like I was doing, in vain) will get bit. But when they're eating a 4oz+ jig that's pounding bottom, teasers just get in the way. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that my gracefully gliding 1oz jig was ignored...when inshore/bay the "lighter is better" rule apply 100% of the time in my experience. I find fishing just a humbling endeavor in general haha

      @Engineer_Heathen Před 6 lety +2

      @@CookingandFishing yeah I was casting up current, so maybe that's why they wanted the teaser. I agree with you, inshore I go as light as possible in my kayak. But in a boat in the ocean, I'm going 4+ ounces no matter what.

      Thanks for watching! Sorry I took so long for the response. I was slow jigging with big pops about every 15 seconds or so. I noticed that when I switched from ultra light weight rods to a rod with a nice backbone, I started catching bigger fish. I feel I wasn't getting good hook sets on bigger fish resulting in fewer doormats. If your kayak fishing, I feel one of the best advantages is being able to keep a drift up to 1.5 knots even if you are at slack tide. One thing I plan on doing to my boat this year is adding a trolling motor. Hopefully Roger comes along for some more trips this year!

    Which reef were you fishing? The one near Sandy Hook?

  • @williamguttridgelll2985

    Hey what reel are you using?

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  Před 2 lety

      An old abu revo and I think the first or second gen Daiwa Tatula. Tranx 200 is a good saltwater baitcaster if you're looking to buy a current reel.

    Come on man, 14:42 , why you gotta throw the plastic in the ocean? It's one thing losing it from fishing, but purposefully tossing it?

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  Před 6 lety +1

      Good eye, thanks for watching the whole video haha! I'd happily accept your rebuke if that were plastic...but it's not plastic, it's Gulp, it's made from a species of yam (think shiritaki noodles) and it's 100% biodegradable. I would never toss a used soft plastic in the ocean, or any plastic for that matter.

    • @Mushroomhaus0001
      @Mushroomhaus0001 Před 6 lety +2

      Wait, Gulp is made of yam? I had no idea.
      I thought it was really out of character for you to toss that-good to hear I was wrong. I enjoy your videos and would love to catch a triggerfish some day!

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  Před 6 lety +1

      Haha yeah, someone on some forum looked up the patent: it's a species of Asian yam (I'm sure mixed with other things to create a matrix), but zero plastic!
      Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it. I'm no triggerfish expert, but I think they haunt jetties and other rocky places up and down the coast. I've watched Seamoney pull one after another on his videos!
