Brenda Vaccaro is a very underrated actress.
She's one of those actresses that you're always pleased to see in a movie.
@@zacmumblethunder7466and on Golden Girls 🥹
She really is! She lifts anything she’s in. Probably the reason why FD felt… “challenged”!
Why don't more people interview Brenda? She's still around and has been in some terrific roles.
Yes. I bet she has enough stories to easily fill up a couple of hours
She got fat. Hollywood is not very interested in fat women.
🎯🎯🎯
Ikr? Brenda Vaccaro was brilliant in the series "Paper Dolls" in 1984.
Brenda Vaccaro is quite the down to earth broad who calls them as she sees them. What an actress!
Agree, and I think that Brenda never really got the credit she deserved. But then again, I suspect her work and life both made her happy, and in the end, that's what matters most--she was happy.
Brenda vaccaro was a great friend of the late Peter Cook.
@@markdaly1648 it went all the way to the establishing of the Establishment club in New york city. cook was a big deal. Vaccaro got to know him very well and saw the devastation of his alcoholism it was brenda vaccaro, who was in his corner as a friend and she was devastated when died.
I remember seeing Brenda Vaccaro for the first time in Midnight Cowboy. I thought she was magnificent. Wonderful character actress. It's a pity about Faye Dunaway. Diva behavior never pays off.
I have always said “Mommy Dearest” was not about Joan Crawford. That movie was all about Faye Dunaway.
Thank you so much, I think the same. Joan Crawford was professional and liked on movie sets and by her many friends in the business
"BRENDA, BRING ME THE AXE" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And I’ve always said it’s hilarious!
@@gojewla I agree 🤣
Truth!
I love Brenda in "Midnight Cowboy": "Hey Fella! You fell!" : )
That was such an excellent line, and it only stands out because of her particular and unique way with a line, even one only four words long. She gave it with a mix of shock, a little confusion, a bit of "what did I just see?" and even a touch of concerned compassion.
I have met Faye Dunaway twice at a vip event I was working at. She had been fussing about something once. But was nice to me.
She seems to be a perfectionist serious control freak which is fine.
@@Ran-33 I've worked for a number of those and I typically get along with them because I understand them. Takes one to really know one and I am one. The difference for me is I take care of all my own business, don't expect anyone else to meet my over the top standards, and I would cut my own throat to avoid being rude to someone or hurt their feelings over it.
Faye she looks great
@Ran-33 it's NOT fine. One cam be a perfectionist and be nice.
Faye seems insecure
@@Ran-33I'd say it's something that needs to be worked on because it's destructive to the self and to others, but at the same time.I remain cognizant that we're talking about a woman in a man dominated world, in which men can be as bossy as they want to be and reap the benefits and compliments of society, while women aren't. So I understand the power
Brenda was great in Zorro the Gay Blade. I also loved when she was on The Golden Girls, as Sophia's daughter-in-law Angela.
Brenda has been fantastic in every thing she has ever been in. A real pro.
Doug's aunt on King Of Queens.
Friends, Columbo, Murder she wrote
Faye was just one of those insane eccentric personalities, if you think she was terrible to people she worked with you should have heard the stories from her neighbors in West Hollywood who had to put up with her bizarre Karen complaints and demands, she was a nightmare.
She's still alive.
@@DarkWillUser😅
Yeah I heard Mommie Dearest was really more Faye than Joan Crawford
I agree. If you work on a film, there's a hierarchy. The top stars get what they want.
Lots of actors are nuts
Vaccaro is always a delight.
People shouldn't equate Faye with Joan Crawford; as a professional, Joan was always on time and knew her lines, she did not act like a diva on set as Ms. Dunaway is alleged to have done.
Bette Davis was interviewed on a talk show and was asked, "Which actors didn't you enjoy working with? The ones you least liked?". After a couple of seconds, Davis replied, "Faye Dunaway.". She said Dunaway was very unprofessional and very difficult.
When did they ever work together?
Joan treated a young Stephen Spielberg with respect and others were not respecting him on Night Gallery because of his youth. She demanded he be treated with respect.
@@Attmay They did two movies together. You can google it.
Crawford had her moments. Mercedes Mcambridge would disagree with you
There's a reason Faye doesn't get work anymore, and it's because she's "totally impossible," as Bette Davis once said on Johnny Carson. She did it to herself, and has no one to blame but herself. It's too bad, because she could be quite wonderful on screen.
That is not accurate at all. Faye went on to act in many movies after working with Bette Davis. Remember, right now she is 80 years of age so maybe she would Iike to take it easy and enjoy the fruits of her labor for once. You make it sound like we are currently in the 1970's. 😅. Look at Faye's movie roster on the internet; she has made tons of movies since working with Bette
Also, Bette Davis was also known to be very difficult to work with.
Read some biographies or listen to some video interviews from actresses of that time period . Bette Davis was no joke. Crawford was the most difficult.
@@SunsetBoulevard111 There's a difference between working and getting good work. Faye never managed to recover from Mommie Dearest and no one in the industry cared to help her, if she has been nicer she likely would have been given more of a shot but they didn't need her anymore and Faye was too impossible to deal with for it to be worth it. Bette did suffer the same fate. She got lucky with Baby Jane but though she worked until her death, her career was largely done by 1950 when Eve came out.
@@SunsetBoulevard111 take a look and read how awful she was during the run of " tea at 5:00". She got fired from the production for being extremely volatile to people. Throwing things, calling people offensive obscenities, Just downright unacceptable. I adore Faye as an actress, and she's one of my ultimate favorites, but that kind of behavior is not okay. She has a history of that.
So she was Dunawaywith?😂
@@nektekket852She was Fayezed out? 😊
FD was obviously a great actor. Mommie Dearest did not ruin her career. By all accounts she was a meschugge and completely impossible to work with.
In Bonnie and Clyde, Arthur Penn must have been in love with Faye, never has an actress received as many stunning close ups.
Who wasn't in love with her back then? She was incredible
@@harty4653interesting story… I saw her being interviewed and one of the first casting directors that worked with her told her that she was a great theatre actress but she wasn’t pretty enough to make it in Hollywood. He must have had cataracts.
I think in her day Faye was one of the most naturally Stunning actresses to exist ! 💞🥰💞
She was absolutely gorgeous
Most beautiful woman of all time for me
I had a really good friend of mine that met Faye Dunaway. He was a security guard at a building where Dunaway way was doing a play. Anyway she started up a conversation with my friend and the conversation ended 45 minutes later. She was the sweetest and nicest person in the world my friend said.
I think she's just admitted she's Bipolar. That would explain a lot.
@@susannah1066 I’m bipolar and I’ve acted weird before. I’ve acted antisocial and wanted to be by myself. I’ve acted superior and arrogant before.
Faye was a Beautiful actress.
Both brenda and faye are amazing actresses.
Love Brenda in that Golden Girl's episode where Dorothy's brother dies. She's very moving.
Faye was giving face in Supergirl though!!
Faye is still in Mommy Dearest mode in this movie.
So right. I think Barfly was the movie that broke the spell (or ended the possession or whatever that was).
Faye Dunaway is talented, no doubt, but she sure as hell isn't worthy of her ridiculous behavior. Brenda Vaccaro is a treasure!
Love Brenda Vaccaro.
Bette Davis said she was the worst person she ever worked with and that is quite an accomplishment. She couldn't stand Dunaway.
I have read that as well. That said, there are similar stories told about Davis, as well as countless others, back in the day. A lot of these women share a bit of that disruptive behavior in common, so perhaps Davis just saw a bit too much of her younger self in Dunaway and was naturally repulsed. I wonder if, in addition, there was an underlying issue with Dunaway, such as some form of bipolar abnormality or any such psychological disorder. Food for thought. The reason I say this is because these stories about Dunaway seem to be so common. Great actress, although I have often wondered if she was ever treated as a kind of outcast from the start of her career and the struggle to 'fit in' ultimately got the best of her.
@@valsainking I love your comment. Instead of playing to the sensational, you have an excellent and balanced point of view. I especially appreciate your giving Faye the benefit of the doubt as to why she may behave as the rumor mongers love to point out. People are flawed, so what. As long as Faye didn't murder anyone, let her be a diva!
@@valsainking She's just come out as bi-polar in the documentary Faye at Cannes
@@Tomovox_PAMS_Radio_JIngles That helps explain a lot, especially her extreme perfectionism, which I suspect is a trait she shares with the likes of Joan Crawford et al. I cannot wait to watch it. Hopefully, it will help the conversation along considerably for I suspect bi-polar disorder is more common among Hollywood A-listers than we may even imagine. At least that's my guess. It is a conversation that needs to be had.
I think what Bette Davis was criticising specifically- wasn’t diva’ ish behaviour as such. But allegedly Faye Dunaway was late often on set and didn’t always know her lines. That is what Bette detested as she considered that “unprofessional.” The other Diva’s of old Hollywood might be difficult to deal with but they turned up on time and knew their lines.
2:26 Brenda's scream 😂😂😂
That's what I said I'm staying I'm staying!! 😂
Was such a fan of this film as a child. Helena Slater was fantastic so sad they didn't go on to make the other 2films as there was meant to be 3 all together. Wonderful cast.
Same director did "Somewhere in Time". WONDERFUL DIRECTOR makes the great better and the difficult compliant.
Brenda is a Doll.
Brenda is great and so is Faye...I loved this movie...camp and fun!
Brenda Is Awesome, always 🤗
Brilliant! Thanks! So lovely to hear something about the Set of Supergirl - especially from Brenda Viccaro. So raw and honest. Love it
Two good actresses, I do believe every word Brenda said about Faye and I do believe Faye is without a dought one of the best. Especially her performance in China Town.
I think just the fact that Dunaway took this part in the first place is proof positive that she was not dealing with a full deck or perhaps she was simply 'of another era.' It's as if, in her own mind, she felt she belonged to a much earlier age. Great actress born in the wrong era.
She took the part because she’d moved to England, and was doing U.K. based projects for a while. There was a narrower selection.
@@gracenurse3365 That makes sense, thanks! I just wish she had been a tad more 'discerning' about which projects/roles she had agreed to do, even if that meant learning to say no from time to time. A woman with Bonnie and Clyde, Chinatown and Network among her illustrious credits deserved to have a much better curated career.
Supergirl is a very well loved film, so stop talking like it's some trash that was beneath Dunaway. If anything, she was lucky to get that part with her attitude.
Dunaway's part was originally written for Dolly Parton, who ultimately passed because she didn't think that playing a witch was a good career move. Jeez, that would've been a COMPLETELY different movie!
@@Sakura_ShadowsI've never heard of this movie until today.
I ADORE Brenda Vaccaro!
no one would do faye's hair/makeup when she toured in frisco with callas : huge grouch.
I USED TO BE proud that my middle name was Faye. Due to the fame of Faye Dunaway. UNTIL I realized mommie dearest was just as much about her as it was about Joan Crawford! Now, I'm still proud because it was my Irish grandmother's middle name and mine. ❤
It's never a good idea to name a baby after a celebrity, or after anyone. You don't know what you'll find out later. Let everyone start fresh, unique.
@@akrenwinkle true. But I was actually named with my grandmother's middle name. I USED to think it was cool that it was also the name of 2 movie stars.(Faye Wray and Faye Dunaway )Then went back to just being happy that it was my Irish Grammas' name. 😉
@@kayleenkrolikowski7442 Fay Wray. But what if you found out something bad about Gramma? I think it's best, begin from scratch, a new being, a new name. But that's just me.
@@akrenwinkle yes ur definitely entitled to think that 100% . I'm no nubbie to life. I'm 60! and, as for my grandmother, she was born in 1914, and I knew her and EVERYTHING about her. Plus I'm heavy into genealogy. No secrets or bad stuff there. And her stories about our shared middle name and it's background... I will treasure forever. As I will the memories of my name sake.
@@kayleenkrolikowski7442 Unless someone is famous enough to be covered by professional biographers, all we know about our ancestors is the folklore they pass down. Unless someone is truly dull and one dimensional- which is sometimes the case- it's impossible to know EVERYTHING, although it's nice to think so. For example, I didn't learn until very late that I had a sibling who was aborted. Also a grandparent who committed suicide. There are things people don't talk about. There are topics, even now, when nobody, it seems, has any manners or decorum, that are taboo, and so not discussed. And so, I feel, start fresh, new... look ahead, not backward. People who dwell on genealogy, I've found, seem to think that just being born into a "good family" is an accomplishment, something to boast about. I think it's silly and divisive, but that's just me.
Brenda and Faye had nice rapport in this movie though...it was a nice approximation of Lex and Otis in Superman; like the distaff version
In the comments people act as though Dunaway is dead, constantly saying 'she was'...as of June 2024, she's still very much alive at 83 years of age.
Selena is only Joan Crawford but with magic
Joan Crawford had magic.
I will forever love this film ... I quote from it ALL the time ... ❤
her Joan Crawford impersonation in Mommy Dearest was a hoot. I wonder how long before the director realized the movie was going to be pure camp.
It wasn't camp. She was portraying Joan, who did behave and act in a campy way.
That being said I am a fan of Joan too.
I love it. I mean...it's a horror film kind of like "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Killer", a lurid caricature to cash in on the frenzy of interest in Christina Crawford's book. I wish Faye had just OWNED it instead of caving to criticism. Christina certainly has.
Bette Davis said it best "Ms. Dunaway is for Ms. Dunaway".
She's probably my favorite actress of all times.
I love hearing the dirt on stars who think their s*** don't stink 😂
Acting and indeed performing arts in any medium can easily create neurotic behaviors. It is not easy for every talent to manage. Some breeze through it all. Others become total hell to work with. Not everyone is Angela Lansbury or a Sally Field type. Many leading ladies especially back then lost the ability to de stress. Consequently thier livers became a mess spouting rage and/or feeding into addictions. The biz also last century chose people based more on the entirety of the performers skill set . Nowadays in film its all what ever is easiest in the role where the dialogue could be managed by virtually anyone and the look more generic. In one way then we got incredible performances with unique faces and equally mesmeric vocal quality with strong acting chips full of variation and delivery. Sadly now its serviceable, hyper trendy even just an unfinished raw style. Dunaway was very theatrical and could command the winds. As Selena in "Supergirl" she was disturbingly believable as she was utterly camp. No small feat frankly. An incredible American actress. A true legend.
Faye is beautiful, and so is Brenda, she didn't put up with that diva shit from Faye.
Great video!
A little before Covid, Faye was doing a play about Katherine Hepburn in Boston. She was impossible to work with and the play close early. I did feel bad for her during the Oscar flub a few years ago,
Brenda always gives good interviews. There's a new Documentary about Midnight Cowboy she's in.
I always loved Brenda and thought she should get more lead roles. She was great in Midnight Cowboy, even though it was a pretty minor part..
love her voice
When Bette Davis says you’re a nightmare to work with, believe it.
Because she was the same
@@pimpharold1Exactly. She's the pot calling the Kettle black 😂
Both in Columbo episodes too
Imo, FD was a great actress and beautiful. She was also a diva.
IS! She aint dead yet!
I'd get along great with Brenda.
A straight shooter, but very loyal.
I’m glad Hollywood has Dunaway with Faye.
😂😂😂👏😂😂😂
🤭
There was a time when Brenda was the hottest property in Hollywood for television actresses, they wanted her for the spin off Mrs Colombo but she had scheduling issues and the role ultimately went to Kate Mulgrew. I’d love to her Brenda talk about that experience and what she thought of Kates performance in the show which was finally changed to “Kate loves a mystery” still playing Mrs Colombo. It was a great show but would have been vastly different with Brenda in the role.
No wonder she played the part of joan crawford in mommy dearest so well as the witch.
Joey’s mom!!
Supergirl was a true story
With a few rare exceptions, actors have short careers and it's stressful because one bad picture and you might be out for good. If I were in "the biz" I'm not sure if being in constant jeopardy would make me act super sweet to everyone or make me act like a total jerk. It's not all champagne and roses.
But Faye delivers. There is no doubt about that. Very few of today's talent is on that level.
Yo! Brenda is a distant cousin of mine. I don't remember if I ever met her when I was young, but I remember my family talking about "cousin Brenda."
Love Brenda Vaccaro and of course after she tells these diva stories, she quite rightly says: "But amazing actress! My god, look at her performances! Network? Bonnie And Clyde?" 🤣 Right after she made this Supergirl piece of crap, she did "Barfly", which is one of Faye's very best. At the end of the day, it's their problem! I love to hear the dirt, like anyone else, but ultimately all that I'm owed is the end result, which was always great; what do I care if she was difficult to get along with?
❤
I liked Brenda as Joey's mom on Friends.
[Smacks Joey upside the head] Ow! Three rings!
The thing of it was, Fay really didn’t realize how lucky she was to be in that movie, not because it was any great Oscar worthy production, or anything like that. But Because her character didn’t exist in the comics as far as I understand. It was created exclusively for the movie. If they had wanted to introduce the witches, all they had to do was choose a character from the existing DC roster. Not to mention she had enough strikes against her after her blowout with Betty Davis. In any industry, the fact of the matter is nobody wants to work with you if you create a hostile environment. And you’re only as good as your working relationship.
Biancaaa!
My father was Dorothy Fayes mothers insurance agent in the 1980s. Around Bascomb and Two Egg several miles away from Tallahassee Fl.My dad said there were many photos of her daughter Dorothy Faye everywhere. Dorothy Faye must be bipolar because she is very kind and sweet one moment and a real B another. Dorothy Faye always wanted to be the center of attention and was in high school plays and was quite good I heard. She attended Leon High School and was also a cheerleader. I've seeen photos of Dorothy Faye from her high school yearbook.
Dorothy Faye?🤔
John Ritter's mother???🤷♂️🤷♀️🤷???
@@brt5273Faye Dunaway’s first name is Dorothy. She goes by her middle name professionally.
I think you nailed it. She recently admitted to being bipolar.
Faye was a very fine actress, but you can tell a person who acts like that has a ton of insecurity.
I have worked for people similar to Faye. They usually like me working for them because I made them feel superior and appreciated by using reverse psychology. It worked all the time.
Didn't want her face in the shot oh my word....
Fine Fay...
Do I have to leave the building or can i stay and hang from the rafters???
People often say that " *Mommy Dearest* " ended Faye's career, but it was actually " *Supergirl* " that did it, it was the nail in the coffin for her.
There was Dark Phoenix in the comic books (not the movie)….
Then.. there was Dark Joan.
I DONT THINK FAYE GETS NEARLY THE CREDIT SHE DESERVES FOR HER BODY OF WORK ,SEEMS LIKE SHE IS A VERY INTENSE ECCENTRIC PERSON BUT SHE REALLY IS ONE OF THE LAST GREAT FACES /BEAUTIES OF THE SILVER SCREAN LIKE WE WILL NEVER SEE AGAIN ,BUT ALSO VERY MUCH AN ACTRESS WITH POWER AND RANGE
Maybe she didn't sleep with enough directors and producers to be popular in their eyes

But I’m sorry Faye Dunaway was incredible in that movie! It’s a testament to her that I wanted to be her just as much as I wanted to be super girl. Lol
Brenda’s the best!
All big time actresses, Faye included, struggle hard after 50.... only Meryl Streep is the the exception to this "rule".
I guess Diane Keaton, Jessica Lange, Shirley MacLaine, Allison Janney, Michelle Pfeiffer, Glenn Close, and countless others missed that memo about work drying up for actresses over 50. 😂😂😂
My ex’s dad was a prop manager in the movie industry, and apparently he walked off the set of “Mommie Dearest” because he found Faye Dunaway so difficult to work with, and didn’t stay for its completion.
Faye Dunaway is currently promoting her doc, FAYE, and it brings light into why she acted the way she did. She's bipolar and ,manic depressive and she takes responsibility for the way she behaved on those sets.
What movie were they in
Supergirl
I have read enough in the comments below to abandon my thought that Faye was 'method acting' and in character... 😁
Knowing now that Faye is bipolar makes sense in the context of all her quirks and personality traits...
When I started working in production, one of the stories I always heard from the makeup and hair departments was that they would NEVER work with Dunaway. And it would always take 3 hours or more to get hair and make up to her satisfaction as she insulted the crew. If you get a reputation for being difficult, plenty of good people will always so no because they don't want the headache.
So Faye really was playing herself in Mommie Dearest...I always thought so!
Is this why when she asked Roman Polanski what her motivation was during Chinatown, he said "Your fucking paycheck" ?
Even Bette Davis had difficulty with her.
Bette was just as difficult...a total Hollywood Diva.
I used to be Brenda’s personal assistant 500 years ago. And she never said anything bad about Faye. I thought they were friends.
It sounds like Brenda was able to see the ridiculous side of Faye’s negativity, so it didn’t get to her.
Faye is the epitome of not worth the trouble.
My father was on the crew of Mommy Dearest and QUIT because of her! He refused to put up with her BS. And Brenda - my favorite Golden Girls guest star ever!
I think that actresses as good as Faye Dunaway, Bette Davis, Elizabeth Taylor have every right to be difficult. They're the ones who actually took acting seriously.
How can you say to Faye that it's "just a film"? That should get you fired!
At the end of the day film is a business.
feet of clay always disappointing when you discover someone you like has a flaw many actors can be placed in this category
Bianca should've married Otis when he got out of jail.
If one bitched about Faye..It was True! Williams Holden and Jennifer Jones couldn’t do their scenes on The Towering Inferno, because Faye Dunaway was always Late to the Set. Holden had enough and grabbed Faye Dunaway and shook her against the wall and told Faye Do Not be late again! Faye was not late for a whole month after that,
BUT Bette Davis who is a smoking diva herself ..said on Johnny Carson that Faye Dunaway wouldn’t come out her Dressing Room..holding up filming a scene for 1976 TV Film The Disappearance of Aimee …Davis said that even the Extras were there for hours ..because of Faye Dunaway not wanting to come out and do her scenes.
Faye Dunaway was fired from Tea at Five..Playing Katharine Hepburn…Dunaway was always late for rehearsals..Hours! And began to throw combs, mirrors at the Staff and others during rehearsals for Tea at Five. The make up personnel helping Faye Dunaway with her wig and clothes..were harassed, and Faye would hurl insults, and started hitting the make up crew. Becoming too scared to show up for work..after Faye Dunaway had multi melt down..The producers had no choice but to Fire Faye Dunaway. Diva Beeeootch
And the great Irene Sharaff, who was costume designer for Mommie Dearest tried to quit because of how insufferable and rude Dunaway was to her and EVERYONE. She famously said she wouldn't enter Faye's dressing room unless someone threw in a raw steak first to divert her attention!
Dunaway's REAL NAME IS DAYE FUNAWAY. If I was an actor and and had the HORRIBLE bad luck to have to work with her, I WOULD NOT HAVE. I'm amazed that no one ever beat the sh!t outta' her.
Such a diva.
Except for Bonnie+Clyde, Faye is just doing the same in different characters and costumes. It's alright cause it's what people love about her
A doctor in my hometown removed a mole on Faye's back.
Dunaway has stated she is bipolar which explains her craziness. I'm sure her behavior has cost her many roles.
Faye: sits

You cannot pour perfectly all that cosmic energy into a body like Fayes and expect total ego control she has to put everyone into place or Hollyweird will flatten you
