In case you guys were wondering what Sam is. He is the spirit of Halloween. He enforces the rules of Halloween tradition, and if broken he will punish you. The only reason he stopped before killing the bus driver was because there was a candy bar on him which stopped Sam cuz it counts as tradition. So he spared him and left him alone. Mr. Wilkins may have poisoned children and was killing them but the fact he gave out candy to Sam was him still following tradition. Everything else was none of his concern.

The woman taking down the decorations early got punished. The girl with the pumpkins kept the candle in the pumpkin lit, so, she was fine.

Also note that each story represents Halloween at a different point in your life. The kids were about the pranjs/trick or treating, the teens/wolves were about the sexual side of Halloween, and the old man was the cranky of people who think they are too old for it.
It's one of the best Halloween movies ever made and it didn't even get released to theaters. They shelved it and almost didn't release it at all but then quietly put it out on DVD. We would probably be on a 10th sequel by now if they had actually had faith in what they'd made.

Sam is short for Samhain, so he’s pretty much the spirit of Halloween. I’m glad you guys loved this! This is a movie I watch ever Halloween now. I wish they would have made the sequel they talked about making.

This is my annual Halloween night viewing after it gets dark. It's got PERFECT Halloween atmosphere. To me this is the essential Halloween movie.
And if you notice, Sam only goes after people who disrespect the holiday or break the traditons. As long as you don't break the rules, He's not going to mess with you. Which is a really cool idea!

@@chaoticallygamely1687it’s an anthology…if it’s completely different stories then it really doesn’t affect the first one story wise at all. Plus it’s the same director so I’m sure he knows what he’s doing.
(At long last )? There’s a strike going on in the movie industry that is sure going to effect things and this is one of the only completely good things the directors made if they can make another great story out of it great otherwise I think Michael Dougherty should leave it alone because one bad sequel is just gonna suck really and people are just gonna go back and watch the original I hope it works out in the end but who knows we’ll see I guess if he ever sends out a finished trailer
This is my favorite "hidden gem" Halloween movie to show to people who haven't seen it. I love anthology movies and I really wish they made more of them.
As far as I'm concerned, this is the one and only true Halloween film. It is all about Halloween and it's traditions. Not just a film set at Halloween.
That is why Michael Dougherty made this movie. On the Shout/Scream Factory Collector's Edition of this movie. On the audio commentary an bonus features he says he wanted to make a movie. About all the rules and traditions an mythology an lore of Halloween. Because no one has ever done that before so he wanted to give Halloween a actual mascot for the holiday so he created Sam. Along with this movie because as he put it all the other holidays have one like Christmas has Santana Claws. So now Halloween has Sam.
I mean even on two different audio commentaries for John Carpenter's original Halloween movie. He says the movie is about a psychopath that escapes a mental hospital an stalks and kills babysitters. That has nothing to do with Halloween in the movie Halloween is a background setting only. Halloween has nothing to do with the story other than it's just the day it takes place on.
I bring that up because Michael Dougherty specifically called out John Carpenter's original Halloween movie. For it not being about Halloween then that is backed up by. What John Carpenter says on the audio commentaries on the Blu-ray version of Halloween an the Shout/Scream Factory Collector's Edition of Halloween.

Great anthology movie that is actually[unlike many that prentend undead= Halloween] themed to Halloween. Its great how they interlock the stories without a narrator explaining or interrupting the stories while putting them not only in same universe but neighborhood.

Glad that you liked it, I also ignored this film for too long, released back in 2007 and I only decided to watched it in 2016 and I love it immediately from the first scene of Sam(behind the kid) I immediately knew that it's not a regular human/kid(without watching the trailer or reading the sypnosis). This and Jeepers Creepers 1 are always included in my yearly October, 31 nights of Halloween horror movies.
This is the most halloweeny film of all the halloweeny films.

Sad true story: There has only been one real case of poisoned candy and it was some sick bastard trying to kill his son and poisoning more candy as a cover. But from then on it became an urban legend and put a damper on the whole celebration.

This is a movie I grew up watching every Halloween, I'm so happy that it's gaining more recognition and more people are watching it!
Um, how has a movie just about a pack of wolves like in this not been made! Or has it and I just havent heard. Its my favorite part of all this.
So this movie was very good it was very underrated it should have been in a time ago so the story behind Sam is that he's an actual ancient spirit that took the form of a kid he's only there to make sure you represent and celebrate Halloween in a good way
The old man is the bus driver from where those kids died so they came back to kill him
Mike Daugherty done a great job on this, can't wait to see the sequel.
"Sequentially, because the movie is not sequential, goes as such.
FYI, because i didnt get it at first, the old man is the bus driver who killed the kids in the flashback.
The fat kid breaking the pumpkins is stopped by his principle, and he is killed by the teacher. At this time, the old bus driver at the end of the movie is just starting his story.
The kids with the jackolanterns come in half way through, collecting around town, and picking up the weird girl.
The principle is then burying the body, while the bus driver yells at him.
The kids stop by the principles house, and this is the same time that Sam begins attacking the bus driver.
The kids head off to the lake, and there whole thing takes place in the downtime of the principle getting ready for his r@pe/k!ll night, and the werewolves are getting costumes. Sam ends his altercation with the bus driver, and heads to the lake.
The kids are eaten by the bus kids, while the one girl escapes. Sam watches in glee. Shortly after this time, the principle is being picked up by the werewolves and being eaten, while Sam gazes at this carnage.
The end is actually the beginning of the movie. The werewolf girls almost hit the weird girl who left the kids to die, the principles son is doing his thing, the bus driver is being killed by the bus kids, and then the couple arrives. She puts out the jackolantern, which is bad luck, then lets her husband go watch porn. Shes killed by Sam. Then her husband finds her."

Watched this when it came out on dvd and i watch it almost every year for Halloween.
It's a great movie. I like Dylan Baker here. He's one of the actors that just are in everything. But he always does a great job.

To answer your question, no unfortunately there is not a Trick R Treat 2, but the director gave his annual Halloween update the other day saying that the sequel is in “active development” but he has been saying that for years now so who knows if we will ever get the sequel but I am praying that we get it!!!

Happy Halloween guys! I love this movie! Been in the annual halloween watch rotation, Sam is the spirit of Halloween also there are talks of a second one but it’s been in talks for years now, but we do get an update every October on if there is a second one.

A great little Halloween treat that I avoided for years because I'm usually not crazy about anthologies. Like the first Creepshow though, this one really works well.
There's a movie called Psycho Goreman that is amazing and lots of fun! But I don't think it's super well known, and I don't exactly want to recommend something that won't get many views. But it's a good time!
