    The craziest thing to me is that he wasn't even young in most of these dances! He was born in 1899 but he was still just as energetic, charismatic, and talented as someone in their early 20's. Love him!

    Fred Astaire was born in 1899 so it's easy to see what age he was in the movies mentioned here. It's pretty amazing to see that for some of those movies he was in his early to mid 50s and was still had energetic moves. The youngest you see him here in this list is him in his mid 30s.

    Fred's 'drunk tap dance on a bar' number from 'The Sky's The Limit' is one of my favorites. Every time I see him dancing...
    his massive talent..charm...and unassuming
    manner gets me hooked all over again.
    We could certainly use a Fred Astaire today...thankfully we have his 31 films.

    Fred Astaire the best dancer ever. His style, class, imagination, body domination. Teaching a partner to dance like one with him, is incredible. From the 30's and still talk to us with dancing voice. He did not need to listen to music to makes wiggle our foot fingers. His language was dancing and we understood him. WOW>

    Russ Tamblyn who played Riff in the West Side Story movie, tells the story of attending an anniversary showing of the film with other cast members. As they filed out of the theatre someone touched his arm and when he turned around it was Fred Astaire, who wanted to tell him how much he admired Tamblyn's dancing!

    My favorite dance of his involving props is easily the toy shop scene in Easter Parade. It's just mind-blowing to me. That poor kid didn't know what hit him as he watched Astaire hit every percussive toy in the shop with inspired precision.

      Nope, don't agree. Pick Yourself Up has always been my #1 favorite dance of all time. It's funny, joyful, intricate and full of signature moves. But Puttin on the Ritz is easily his best solo effort.

    I am so astonished at the fact that how can she dance (tap dance) wearing those heels. OMG!! It hurts very bad. I have that kind of block heels but couldn't even do one nice step wearing them. Gosh. And She totally slayed it.

      Someone once asked Ginger Rogers what it was like dancing with such a master, and she replied that he may have been a master, but she did every thing he did backwards and in heels.
      And, they weren't just heels some look to be 3 inches. So, she was a master too.

      Jenna Leigh's Beauty Slam I love to see top 10 golden age child stars, top 10 Cary Grant performances or any other actor or actress like Shirley Temple, Greta Garbo, James Stewart, etc. Etc. , top 10 actresses per decade (they only did it by era on watchmojo 😒) , top 10 underrated classic stars per decade maybe top 10 stars from each studio I gotta a lot of top 10 ideas haha 😂😂

    "Can't act, can't sing. Can dance a little." The actual appraisal about Fred Astaire in his early days in Hollywood as he 'got started'. I know.....His phenomenal career lasted DECADES doing ALL of that to very appreciative audiences..... Wonder whatever happened to the forgotten 'talent scout' who made that quote ?!!!

      Fred's early appraisal by a certain studio executive (can't dance...can't sing...yadda yadda yadda) must be taken with a healthy grain of salt as he and his sister Adele were very famous Broadway/London West End musical stage stars, i.e. they were well known entertainers.
      I think the studio's original appraisal of Fred had more to do with how he photogenic he was or wasn't..
      They were looking for perfectly handsome/beautiful actors and actresses. However Fred's elegance... charm and warm personality as well as his staggering musical talents won over the RKO studio executives.
      I always found him to be attractive in an off-beat kind of way.
      Love you forever Fred!

    Ginger did everything Fred did, but backwards and wearing high heels. Seriously, Fred Astaire was the best male modern/tap dancer of all time, imho. So creative, graceful, ethereal. He created real magic moments in film.

    Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers are beyond Amazing. Their energy, and creativity never seizes to captivate me. I have VHS tapes that I use to watch at night for "Dance Lessons"!

      @@frombaku9419 "Study the greats then become greater!" - Michael Jackson. He did become greater or as good but he gave credit where credit was due as an inspiration. Smooth Criminal is like one big homage to Astaire. Shout out to both of them.

      @@rashb3994 He didn't become greater. He couldn't do all of the dance moves that Astaire did and couldn't even tap dance. MJ was good though.

      @@jessiem276 Yes Astaire is more versatile, but the reason the way MJ moves is considered greater is because his dancing is considered OUT OF THIS WORLD, like nothing ever seen before! It's the reason people of all races (I thought it was just black too at first but it's not) keep bringing him up on this video, it's because they consider MJ the standard.
      Like it or not Astaire's type of versatile dancing and genre is gone from the mainstream by the time 80's MJ happens. It's because MJ captivated the world and changed dance.

      These golden age actors cut their teeth in vaudeville. Having to sing, dance, act, and do their own stunts doing 20 shows a week for years, and it shows.

    My brother and I used to do couple dancing when we were children and we were pretty good. It was so much fun when you get your routine down straight and you can do it together perfectly. It’s so satisfying.
