These types of videos are very interesting I think it helps bridge some cultural gaps. You do a great job of explaining another cultures traditions in a non-judgemental way. Please make more like this.

@@GoYvon up in nyc where I lived till about a year ago during new year we watch the ball drop on tv & clean the house completely beforehand. My favorite holiday however was Thanksgiving because we got to be thankful while simultaneously gouging ourselves on cornbeef & mac&cheese~

Hi Yvone, thanks for sharing this video. Yes they do 大扫除, the whole cleaning or big cleaning, it's actually family time, where mom and dad, brothers and sisters in the house collaborate to clean up the house. And it's fun activities actually. they sweep the floor, mop the floor, vacuum cleaning for the dust, and the important thing is to repaint the wall for the house, to make their house look brighter. I don't know whether they do it for the one who live in condo or apartment. But is they live in a house, (which mean a house with one or two floors with one roof, not live in a part of tower or big building, where u have neighbors in the same room) they usually repaint the whole house building wall, included get rid all the old stuff. At a week prior to the new year eve, they buy they buy new year decorations.

Hi Ahmad, thank you for sharing your thoughts! So interesting to read how you prepare for the new year. I didn't know that painting was part of the process too. Is there a specific thought behind that other than making the house look brighter?

@@GoYvon 迎接新年,也就是迎接新希望。to welcome the new year with new hope. Actually it's describing Chinese people, not me. We celebrate Nowruz. We do the preparation, especially table arrangements with the food which name has "s" initial. I love how Chinese people does the preparation for new year as well.
