I am watching the dial while you were indicating the first one in, thinking you're going the wrong way, with your jaws. Bloody upside down Ozzies...then I remembered your working from the ID!...Oh 💩... nevermind! More coffee at 0530 Sunday morning. Nevertheless, despite my silliness, good stuff as usual and that lathe is just the perfect size IMHO for many things. Shop is nice and bright and I noticed you have the proper girly calendar picture hung up on the wall there. Atta boy Max, you'll keep! Cheers
You clearly need to be a little more selective with your viewing if it offends you. A couple of hours touring Starrett as an example is way more than an 'advert'. All of the setups and hicups of the recent Vice build is of way more value than anything Jason might gain is sales. Just because ANY CZcamsr you watch for FREE doesn't suit change the channel!
Thanks . Don't forget Abom started his channel 11 years ago & maybe he felt going in another direction was for the better , or maybe it was to do with Motion not allowing him to film . He still had his home shop though , maybe he just wanted a change in direction . Out of everyone who does not like his new content & cans of CRC , i don't recall anyone noticing he had his brand new shoes on back to front when doing the leveling feet on the Pacemaker ! I still watch him , he still has some good shows . Cheers 👍👍👍
@@swanvalleymachineshop I think what some miss is so much of the tooling and in particular work holding applies to both CNC and manual machining. Pierson's channel is still worth a watch for example even if you aren't going to own CNC or use any of their product. The ideas are the content.
Nice work, Max! I always appreciate seeing precision workmanship and close attention to details. Yeah, It's HOT here in the central part of the east coast USA (not near as hot as your summers though) so it's kind of strange to see you with the cap and jacket 🙂
Love the outro images :) I'll never forget the first time I saw flame spraying, I was a snotty nosed apprentice spark working at the Pomona Docks in Manchester when the last working 60 horsepower electric motor went tilt, they worked through the night to repair the races on the shaft and other work that I was involved in. All that to get a Manchester Liners ship out that had to make a tidal window in Liverpool. We just made it. Flame spraying was a black art to me back then, but the memory is burned in for sure :)
@@kempy666999 All of them have their place. Not talking down what Curtis does but for me almost all of what he does is of little interest to me or likely to help much in what I do. I get far more out of Stefan G as it is far more what I get up to or are likely to do in my shack. The comments section warriors on Abom's, Topper and others need to figure it out that it is not a dik swinging contest.
Hi Max, we used a metal spraying company in Freo in the eighties and nineties for our electric motor shafts. I always used a inductive bearing heater so as not to disturb the metal spray material when fitting the bearing. Removing bearings would result in most cases pulling off the metal spray substrate and would have to be sent out for repair again but it did the job as intended. Nice save on expensive part and good too see the JFMT earning its keep.
No worries . Yes , there are special techniques to remove bearings easily as not to do damage , I usually hang the part by the crane upside down , spin it around fast then a quick heat with a big torch . 👍
Hi Max, I used a special technique on a 200 hp plus motor, removing a welded on bearing on the drive end. Sledge hammer and oxy in hand, hitting the inner race a small fragment penetrator my overalls and into my inner thigh. Xray to confirm position and Doctor with scalpel removed offending fragment, surprised how deep it penetrated , my Daughter watching and cringing at the sight
Impressive stuff Max. I guess this is the way you really make money. No f**king around, heat up the expensive part and make it work. Fumbling around with not so critical parts for some time now and here we are scorching expensive parts and make it work. Did you meet Kurtis from CEE machining? Same stature as you. Get it done and all the new beards just went past you with nothing to account for. Thank you for sharing this with us too. I wish you all the best, Job
Excellent job! And that’s how you get the silver. In the first trumpet you spend approximately 2:30 minutes; how thick was the metal coating? In the second trumpet you mention .005” + thread after an undercut. I love your videos because you don’t play magician… “clap and done”. Of course you cut repeats (like dialing the 4 jaws) but I can get an Idea of how long an expert takes to do the job.
Yep another interesting video Max & great to see the JFMT making you a buck to help pay for all the work you have done on it to get it up & working so well. Also good to see that the work is steadily starting to come in as well.
Hey Max love the Miss July calendar on the wall. How easy is it to see when your laying the spray weld down as it appears very difficult or is it no different than oxy welding. Great work i like how its all come together for you with a lot of hard work.
G'day Max,love the spray weld jobs mate, thats a job well done as always, btw its a noice 26⁰ C here in merry old England, reckon by the end of summer, we'll nearly be as warm as you are in winter 😂
A great job all round Max. Is that a Eutectic system you are using? I've watched a good few videos from Abom doing flame spraying and one or two from Steve Summers. A very interesting process to watch. Looking forward to the part 2!
Lol . No , long gone now days for the same reasons . That one does not have the years marked on it , so i use it every year ! It's an old one from Forch , a workshop consumables company . 👍
Im disgusted at the filth displayed on the wall and therefore must insist it be removed immediately and sent to me for disposal at the following address , .........🙄
The bird on the wall look sufficiently impressed with that nice pair of trumpets.
Very lovely wall art indeed.
She has nice trumpets.
Gotta have the Trumpets ! 👍
Love the calendar in the background, should be more of it.
Don't look to hard, some fema-naze will start whinging, I just love the back ground pic thou.
there's a calendar in my shop that still shows aug 2010. can't seem to flip the page.
Lol , my one does not have the year . It's eternal ! 👍

Bang up job Max, and better than Abom because all he does now adverts descised as jobs . Max and Matty's workshop are the real deal.

Gday, didn’t take long for the JMFT to get its first mission mate, top job
Ready just in time ! 👍
You cold there I see..... Poor old fella. Nice to see the JMT being used for a job. It all sounded good
Bloody freezing ! 👍
Can only imagine the replacement cost of those housings...saved the customer big on that great repair for sure Max.💯
Thanks Al . 👍
Thank you Max. Never did understand spray welding, now I have enough information to be dangerous.
No worries 👍
Cracking video, excellent Callander 👍🥃🏴

Australias answer to Abom! Go Max
With just a slightly more blue reduced Language filter 🦘
Good one Max. Nice to see the process thank you. Look forward to the machining with the new lathe. 👍🇳🇱
I think that Australia's "holy trinity" (Kurtis, Matty and Max) blow him out of the water. 🧨
@@kempy666999 me too. They actually do some work.

Fascinating process - really appreciate you taking the time to record it on an urgent job. I know how much filming slows the job down sometimes. 👍👍

Awesome job max, looking forward to the next installment. From kiwi land

Yes . Eutectic Rototec . Same as Abom used to use . 👍
Excellent work !
Do you have to heat your Nice shop?
No , just a beanie & jacket is fine . Never gets that cold inside . Cheers 👍
Beanie? That’s a touque in Soviet Kanuckistan. How cool is it there in the morning, 10 Celsius or so?
Lol , we just had record lows of 3.5 deg C . Usually 6 to 10 deg this time of year in the mornings . 👍
👏👏👏👏👌
Thanks 👍
Is there not a seal directly inside the housing that would be damaged by the heat?
Their is a seal , but it should not get damaged . It should be replaced anyway on re assembly by whoever re assembles it . 👍
Do you feel the chill when it plummets below 30 Max? ;-)
Yes , it has been 5 deg in the mornings ! 👍
Max, does the Bull Nose tail stock bearing suffer from all the spray flame heat.
No , not yet anyway . I am going to replace the Chinese bearings with real ones soon though . 👍
? Can A larger bearing be used to replace the lose in shaft size?
No . Would not work . 👍
