- This video will take you to Playa Del Carmen Beach in Mexico and provide information and an update on the seaweed situation. This video was shot in the middle of the afternoon. They have announced the official beginning of seaweed season. The government has now put in place a plan to minimize the affects of seaweed on tourism. The plan includes 8600 meters of barrier out at sea held by anchors on the sea bottom, different boats that pick the seaweed up out at sea before it gets to shore and a number of machines and workers on the beach. There is an abnormal small level of seaweed compared to last year at this time.
Playa del Carmen is a coastal resort town in Mexico, along the Yucatán Peninsula's Riviera Maya strip of Caribbean shoreline. In the state of Quintana Roo, it’s known for its palm-lined beaches and coral reefs.

I just left Playa yesterday and the seaweed was 2-3 feet high in some places. I was staying just south of the Hilton at the Playa Palms Beach by where they part the fishing boats and it was extreme.
