I enjoy tracks made on Romplers and synths more than samplers these days. Working within the strict sound limits of a single box is a puzzle that everyone solves differently and it's enjoyable to hear the solutions.
Thanks. I sometimes do feel the same although a lot of people do great stuff on samplers too. Am personally using the Digitakt a lot and don‘t want to miss it, but I think for those who are interested in how it‘s produced and what the limitations are, it definitely adds some entertainment value. Also the character of this box is what is a welcome alternative to the world of perfectly mixed, crystal clear and refined sounding electronic music for me. I like those perfect balanced sounds as well, but am also always looking for something that is produced just like it was in the 80s or 90s on low budget or with what you have just right there to simply make people dance.
@@debrixlive I have an RS7K I normally use(d) as a rompler (past tense because one of the capictors yeeted itself off the mother board so it won't boot and I haven't repaired it yet) until a point where I absolutely cannot live without a sound I have in my head, usually some vocal snippet or Amen edit. I know I'd be one of the few folks who'd find a box like I'm about to describe interesting, but I'd like to see something like the digitakt, but with only an internal stock set of about 255 sounds (nice round, digital number) but can resample ONLY itself and comes with just one multi effect internal fx, so that it's possible to make tons of sounds, but all comes down to editing and bouncing tracks and stuff. I'd dig that box a lot.... :P I'm also weird. At any rate, I'm sure you're aware of them, but RaveTracks also does cool RM1X stuff if the event you have not seen their videos. You both do good stuff!
@@ritchrdronson7903 lol nice, small world. From what I gather it's basically the RS7K without the sampler portion but all the sounds/effects and slightly different face layout. To be honest, the stuff you can make on the built in sounds with it's filters and envelopes and lfos and such is pretty good. I think the only real advantage to the sound of the rs7k is just the outboard master effect. I'm not sure the RM1x has that, but that's nothing a little post processing couldn't take care of. If I see one go for decent price, I'll hit you up and point you to it. Peace!
I had an RM1-x and thought it was the best quality and sound from all of the grooveboxes. This really shows the power of the little unit, well done sir.
Nice. I made about a half dozen techno tracks using nothing but an rm1x back in 2000-2001. You used different sounds that I used--I loved the cyberbass. One of my top-5 fav synths I've ever owned
random person: "The Yamaha RM1X has thin sounds and is too old to produce anything modern" Debrix: "Hold my beer" *uploads a incredible deep and well produced track with fantastic peak-to-body ratio on CZcams*
I really like this. Very nice. I just started making DAWless live music and posting. Melodic Techno so far, but I hope to make some Deep House and Ambient jams as well. I can appreciate the effort it takes to make this and I love that you're using older equipment too. Cheers!
Love your videos ...I sequence an Emu sampler with the yamaha. Can you do an indepth video on automating midi cc values.I'd like to get better at programming in midi automation of the filter envelopes. Thanks and happy new year.
This track sounds so good.....I’m loving your work! Would it be possible to upload a deconstruction of the track? You would make an old woman very happy! 🤗
Thanks a lot. I was using Midi delay, a lot of automation, long bars and on the hi hats I played around with the attack. On the pad I was using bend a little bit and here and there I'm using an LFO. I think it's all about adding as much motion as you can. Did you watch my tutorial videos? You'll find most of the techniques that I applied in there. You might specifically be interested in this one czcams.com/video/k5f7cunhKHU/video.html which covers some basic principles about automation.
great track! lovelyyy! question: I see you use tape to write the instruments on each track. what is "midi out" on track 16? are you using some external machine?
Not sure why the roland and korg grooveboxes had such a problem with making their gear sound this good back in the day. This sounds like a pro rig, which is probably why so many people consider rm1x pro gear in the first place ig
I have the original PSU for my Rm1x that big block style power supply, I find it trips the power off easy if it’s knocked or moved ….I understand it’s PA-5C adaptor according to the manual….when googling replacements I just find standard wall style plugs with a dc cable ! Just worried buy the wrong thing….any recommendations of finding the right 3rd party PSU
There‘s one in Amazon Germany exclusively named to be compatible with the RM1X. Didn‘t try it though, so you might want to lookup reviews. www.amazon.de/Netzteil-Yamaha-Sequence-Remixer-RM1x/dp/B00FIUN39C
Cool track :) I just picked up an RM1X and am amazed by the advanced midi features - those who designed it should be honored! Keyboard buttons are quite sticky and unresponsive what about urs? Any easy way to change then without soldering u think?
Straight fire 🔥how long have you had the RM1x? I’ve been attempting to sequence the RM1x using my digitakt but it seems that you loose a lot of the pentameter adjustments. Thanks for uploading the tutorials, are there any other resources that you would recommend?
@@debrixlive I want to sequence the RM1x using my Digitakt, but tweek the sounds on the Rm1x using its set of 8 encoders (I seem to be able to play the one shot samples but i cant work out how to adjust their parameters). Im far more familiar with the elektron workflow and tend to use the Digitakt as the main brain of my set up. Thanks for getting back
@@TheDavidKettle Did you watch the 3 MIDI related videos including connecting the Digitakt that I recorded? You'll find them in the following Playlist: czcams.com/play/PLZuWHwQPpsxEsSLeIVuHaVnsXFaQqJ2Vv.html
@@debrixlive Hey man, Yeah i did see that one. Whats confusing me is that when the Digitakt is being played in chromatic mode its it's selecting different samples rather than playing the sample in a different key. Perhaps i have my midi settings wrong?
As long as it supports MIDI and MIDI clock it should work in case you're looking for a tempo synchronisation. The RM1X doesn't have any CV output in case the CS10 does only support that.
I've just been on a deep house vinyl hunt binge, and this sir is as good if not better than most of the tracks I was listening to. Love it!!
this is by far one of the best house tracks i've ever heard on a youtube groovebox vid
Thank you so much!
oh you heard many of them tracks coming out of boxes like this without knowing :) FOR SURE
@@Uvisir of course but how often do you see someone showing a real deep house track that isn't actually just lofi chill beats to study to?
just woooow those sounds literally took me back man! lol
Great stuff! The last bar of the bass line stepping down from high to low on the "and" beat is the track.

Does it have arpeggiator?

Amazing! Top notch RM1x programming my friend. ❤
Your programming sounds fantastic, thanks for sharing.
I bought one again recently, mostly cause I listen to this!

It's all internal without any MIDI devices connected. I think track 16 is even not in use for this track at all.

Gotek module (can connect usb key) to replace the floppy disk drive possible?
I didn't try that due to my love to retro floppy disks 🙂

Make some Techno with the Rm1x.
Interested in hearing what you come up with.
Nice work. Any chances you could make a rundown of how you did this with the rm1x? :)
Are these all built
In sounds ?
Yes, the RM1x doesn't allow uploading your own sounds.
this sounds more like rominimal , micro house
