- The moment has finally arrive where I test a very Affordable 50W UV LED Flood Light to use on my future Homemade Exposure Unit. Everyone knows that UV light is the best option to expose screens as it is the fastest to do so. Here, after browsing many Options, I came to this LED light that is really cheap but very good quality. This was just a few quick test I did to see how it works. I still need to perfect it. But this is definitely a BUILD UP to my shop. Hope you enjoy. Thanks again to the people who had helped me to make this possible.

The best part of your videos is that you pull off clean prints with relatively low tech items in your shop. You see people on print forums insisting we have to have the best screens with perfect tension, a vacuum exposure unit, a high pressure power washer, pre-registration table and here you are holding an exposure light with no specific height from the screen, blasting out the stencil in the sunlight using a spray bottle. it's awesome to see and really makes me think that I am often overthinking things when trying to troubleshoot. Keep putting out videos. they're inspirational
I totally understand what you mean. That's how I was when I first got here and realized how they did it here. Always thought I needed all the best equipment but not necessarily true, but if you do have the best equipment, it will make things easier.

Excellent demo. Now I'm confident to buy one of these lamps as I'm just getting into printing and so many suppliers promote their own stuff which is often over complicated or they are vague about the detail. Greetings from Scotland and thanks for the info

gotta say im impressed with your home made DIY setup. and no pressure washer!. i run similar rig 1 bedroom apartment and a shower head to wash it out haha. gonna toss my old halogen lights away and get the cheap LED UV light

Yes it does save water but just a little time consuming. And true that many people do screen printing here in Mexico.

Great job!! Thanks so much. I am just starting to screen print...not sure about why/when after placing the emulsion onto the screen, where to keep in dark place until using LED light or not, etc. Guess trial and error to see. Thank u for this video!!
No problem, and yes, you'll go through a lot of trial and errros into you get it right. Patience is key in screen printing. And you can just leave it in any dark room. A yellow light safe room is not exactly necessary, it helps but not a must when starting out. I just leave them in my shop with the lights of until it dries, than sometimes I put them in a box or just place a dark clothe over them.

Get your self a HAND PUMP TO WASH OUT EMULSION AFTER EXPOSED.. LIKE used to spray fertilizer or inspect weed killer garden shop ...like $15.00--$40.00
Spray faster and more PRESSURE or less PRESSURE but wide spray easy pump by hand 7 pumps done

Sometimes I ask myself questions; Why is it that every screen printer one time or the other is never satisfied with his job? For me I have also purchased a 200 watts flood led outdoor lights for my screen jobs whilst I still have a 6 long fluorescent day lamp bulbs exposure unit that I expose screens for 10 minutes. But I still want to lessen the time to seconds or at least a minute. It is still part of us, build it up.
just a thought... see if you can get a hold of a pump sprayer (the kind you spray for insects) it will hold more water and give you a faster spray out.

Thanks my brother im on amazon rut now looking for a timer thats easy to setup and run i built my own exposure unit and im using 1000w halogen and UDC 2 chromaline emulsion and im getting 10-13 minutes wanna cut it down and start experimenting on cmyk and halftones. wow thanks for testing this I think I'm going this route I have been using a big heavy yard light with a halogen bulb that was homemade been using it for forever! but I think I'm going to give the 100 watt version of the light a try and see if my can get my time down to 30 seconds my current exposure time is 1:30 but getting it down to 30 seconds or less would make my jobs faster for sure all my jobs are multi colored , what emulsion were you using? the green makes me think it is chroma blue? I also like the fact it turns on and of right away, The light source Imp using takes a min or two to warm up, and if it shuts off when hot it will not restart until it cools off...
What I noticed in other videos when exposing a screen is having none UV lighting when coating or exposing a screen, having a “dark room” with the UV free setting would have avoided the wash-off spots
You would be able to get much better prints if you put the light below the screen and added a glass and some pressure. The light is way to close to the screen. I can get a 15 sec exposure on very detailed prints .

Thanks. And yes, I'll be making a new exposure unit where I would place the light on the bottom. And I do have a glass pressing the film to the screen but doesn't quite have even pressure so another reason I want to make a new table. And hopefully yes, when I make a new one, that I can lower my time a bit.

I’m trying to build my own exposure unit so I have a few questions.
I’m hoping you can give me some feedback.
What’s the correct distance from light to frame ? I’ve been reading on your comments and some say that 4 feet and other 12 inches. That’s a lot of range distance. What are your thoughts?
Does it matter if the Uv light is 60W? I haven’t found a amazon supplier that is shipping a 50 W Uv light to México currently.

As for the distance, it depends on your light source. For example, on a flood light like mine, you have to have a certain distance that will spread out the light evenly. I have mine at 12 inches which is perfect. And a 60w will work fine. The one I bought was actually delivered to me here in Mexico but yea, I check and they longer ship to Mexico. But you can try and search cause they're a few others that do ship here in Mexico. I'm currently going to build a newer exposure unit, but this time I'm going to use UV LED strips.

You can say it's a dual emulsion since I have to mix the Emulsion with a chemical called Bicromato to activate the Emulsion.

Hola Amigo. Y si se puede con esas luces amarillas pero a muchos, le dan como 10 minutes y el problema es que si calientan mucho. Te recomiendo los de LED. Y el que yo tengo es de Ultra Violeta, son mas rapido que de la luz blanca.

I've been having issues with half tones and exposing properly. It takes a long time to expose ANYTHING with a 30 watt uv light I bought. Should I go higher? To 100 watt? Your half tones came out really well here with 50.
I believe that a 50-60w should be fine. A 100w I think is to much.
@@TheInkBuildUp I've seen other people have 250 watt exposure units. So I think it should be okay. I just don't know why 30 watt is making me wait like 20 minutes
@@deathprocess 20 minutes is a lot. And your Emulsion also can be a factor of the time it's takes to expose.
@@TheInkBuildUp so I figured out that it was my glass I was using. The glass I put on top of my screen was blocking all the uv light. I removed it and it brought it down to 5 minutes

Can't really say, but mine is about 3-4mm.
What model is the UV light lamp? My study indicates to use dark room to apply emultion but my instructor alleged it is not really necessary, his colleague did not use for 20 yrs he said. I made my own dark lamp based from a chart from Kodak. red light for X-ray, etc & so forth
Can't remember the model. And yes, working with emulsion should be in a yellow lit room. But I only see that necessary for storing and letting dry your screens. When I coat my screens, I do it in a lit room since it's still wet. And when finally exposing. I do it in a lit room as well, as long as you don't leave your screen there for a long time, you shouldn't worry to much. But now, I did add some yellow led lights to my shop, that way I don't have to worry about it and feel rush.
Other printers have said that the 50 watts is too much.

Well right now I just took a guess to get my times. But there is this exposure calculator to get a better estimated time, I just forgot about it. And well, you can always message me through Facebook or Instagram.👍👍

Whered you get that spray bottle from lol i dont have indoor water source for a pressure washer so i need sometjing like that
. Here in mexico, they have this plastic stores where they sell everything with plastic, (cups, bowls, trash cans, taples, etc....) but you can find them at about at any major store. Have to look at the cleaning section.
@@TheInkBuildUp so i can take screens outside after exposing then wash them out and bring them back in? Because i would have to go to my house which is a mile away and use a water source there then go back to my office
If you're going to wash out the stencil outside, I recommend you do it in the shade and right away. You don't want to have the screen outside for too long before hitting it with water. I usually have a bucket of water next to me.

You want UV.
will the 80 watt version work better?
Yes. Definitely. But For me the 50w takes a couple of minutes, but for others, less time. It all depends on your emulsion.
What emulsion are you using in these tests?
I'm using Sanchez Emulsion.

I was using an emulsion that they sell here in Mexico. It's an affordable brand. Not the best but still gets the job done.

Sort of. I didn't build a box, I just turned an old table to my exposure unit.

What experiences did you have after making this video and what was the best time you came to?
It's been awhile since I made a video, but this light helped out a lot more than compare to my old methods of exposing screens. And I can't remember exactly the time I came up with. But it was around2-3 minutes. As compare to a white flood light, that I was doing at 10 minutes. Big time saver.

It Is a great deal, especially the amount of time that it will save you when exposing. And time is money.
Hi I bought a 50w led flood light. Its not a UV though. Is it okay to use it for tshirt printing as well?
If its just a white flood light, yes you can still use to expose your screens, however it will taker longer to expose.

Yes it will. Before this UV light, I used to expose with a 30w flood light. Took long but it did get the job done.

@@e34world well with the Emulsion I used here locally, it would take me 10 minutes. With this new UV light 1 minute with 40 seconds. It all depends on your Emulsion as Well.

@@irascher Pues no sé qué decirte. No sé tanto de UV. No todos los emulsiones son igual. Y casi siempre escuchado que entre 390-405 nm sirve mejor. Será mejor que investigues para tomar la decisión final.
Why did you to get 50 Watt? You could have chosen a higher watt
Yes I know but I was on a budget. But i later learned that 50w is okay. Saw a post were someone got a 100w UV light but their time was too fast, like 4-6 seconds. Yes it's fast but too fast that it wouldn't give the emulsion enough time to expose probably. Especially on the halftones. They kept getting exposed. But I recently purchased a 60W UV LED strips.

Hello sir i have same light but it is 20 watt uv led light i expose a big design 15 inch to 11 i expose it 30 min it is still getting blow away on the washout process what am i doing wrong shouldnt it be exposed in smaller time than this it is 20 watt uv i cant understand why it is still blown away
What's the distance between your light and the screen?
The Ink Build Up 70 cm it was 50 but i changed it cause my image is big and i thought far distance would be give more equal light to screen
@@selcuksaglam4849 that's really high. Cut the distance in half and see how it goes. I have mine about 30cm, and expose films that are 11inx17in

Is there anything wrong with overexposing by a little bit? Why not just let it cook
If you let it overexposed. You'll have trouble washing out the emulsion from the screen. Especially if your films aren't that dark.

Pues. Lo pongo a 17 pulgadas y para malla blanco le doy 1 minuto y para malla amarillo le doy 1 minuto con 40 segundos. 👍
