Femke Bol's story was the absolute highlight of Budapest 2023. Her "redemption" at the very close of the championship was so much more meaningful because it was a team win. During an interview right after her 400 hurdles win several days earlier, she was asked about the first night loss. She said her teammates were of course disappointed but were mainly concerned about HER mental state. They wanted to make sure she could focus on her upcoming 400 hurdles. She said she could not have won her individual gold without their support.
So on that final night, she overtook Jamaica in the last meters through sheer willpower because she was fighting for her teammates, as demonstrated by the fact that she collapsed to the ground several times to catch her breath, barely able to share in her teammates' celebration. I've never, ever seen her so exhausted. It was a fantastic sports moment because you could see true camaraderie. This was a genuine team, not merely a collection of individual athletes.
Edit: Here's the interview I mentioned: czcams.com/video/rbFSAno_ays/video.html
Do indoor 2024 season ?
It really is a testament to her mental fortitude after dropping the baton meters from the finish to pick herself up, own the hurdles and come back to walk down the field in the final 4x4. I didn’t know her teammates were there comforting her but that is such a touching moment.
Sorry she is amazing but I never saw true remorse for her teammates. It was all about her and how they supported her. Even in the interview. I was rooting for her to say that and show that.
I'm not even that big a t&f fan, but I could watch Bol run all day. It's just beautiful.
Alyson Felix has the all-time most beautiful stride tho.
@@usmh but Allyson ain't running anymore. And beauty is subjective.

Femke is a joy to behold, she has such an easy, controlled, long & balanced stride, paired with unbelievable power in her kick. And, she just seems to be the nicest, kindest person, and so supportive of her competitors. I tune into ANY race she runs. Hope she has the greatest life.
Her 4×400 finish is the greatest l've ever see! It's saved on my phone to rewatch.
It is riveting to watch. Her closing 50m was ASTONISHING. The announcer near popped a hernia calling it!
Great finish I agree . But the greatest finish I have seen was the comeback by the late great Lillian Board at the 1969 Euro Champs in the women's 4 x 400 relay. Lillian had to beat the Olympic champion and world record holder at 400metres = Carlotte Besson. It looked as if she had not got up . The commentary by David Coleman was equally epic.
But it is poignant that Lillian was already sufferings the effects of what at the time was undiagnosed Bowel Cancer. Lillian died from that condition just over one year after this race. She had just celebrated her 22nd Birthday.
It was like she switched on one turbo on each of her legs
That was Colette Besson@@keithbate9405
I saved it in the computer and i watch it everytime i wanna see something of beautyful!
As a very proud fellow-Dutchy I’ve never shouted so hard at my TV watching that WC-relay last year. It was the greatest come-back in a 4x400 ever! She is really something else…..
Sy is definitief, " something else " , nog baie jare om te verbeter, ook. Roy b, CapeTown south africa 🇿🇦
This young woman is incredible. She came out of nowhere and since tokyo she is crashing it! She has the brightest future!
We love her here in Texas- I've been watching the Olympics heavily since Tokyo 1964 when incredible Billy Mills won the 10,000 meter (still the only American to do so) and then there was the tingling excitement of Jean-Claude Killy winning all three Alpine races in 1968 at Grenoble. Those events still swim happily in our memories 59 years on now. It will be the same with Femke. She da Bomb.
@@sitarnut All hail the great white athlete!
Bol’s comeback in the last 50mtrs of the 4 x 400 will stand as one of the greatest achievements on track for a long time to come!
One classy lassie with a super-fast chassis
It’s such a privilege to witness perfection. Saw that come back and couldn’t help be be excited for her. Like watching a “no-hitter “ in baseball…super rare! Its going to be fun to watcher her in the Paris games
She's so likeable and normal off-track but an absolute optimized machine when she's going fast.
What an incredibly amazing athlete. A privilege to watch her run. Thank you for highlighting and sharing these performances with us all.
She is amazing. An inspiration to watch. She runs so effortlessly beautiful, I’m blown away.
Hopefully we get to see her and Sydney go head to head in the 400mH in Paris next year. ❤
I hope so also with both women at their peak. As good as Bol is, she is still at least one second behind Sydney.
Sydney is not going to run the 400mH at the Olympics. She said there is nothing more for her to accomplish there and she is solely focused on the 400m!
@@mangojulie123 and thats both not true and a shame imo. But theres only opinion thst matters when it regards her career and thats hers

@@MagnusficationSydney broke the world record 3 times in a year. What must she prove? If Femke can break the world record then maybe Sydney will have a go at hurdles again.
She's great and so nice as well. I wish her all the best.
What's amazing is that she changed up her stride pattern and looked awkward in the hurdles for the first half of the season while still dominating as she did.
this is the best coverage of Femke she is amazing and so fun to watch she is so graceful poweful yet feminine and sweet !
What fans want to see is a schedule that's kind enough to allow talented multi-event athletes like Femke, Syd, Britton & Shamier battle over both 400m/400mH @Global Champs! Should be noted that outside of this year's prelim round @JAM Champs where she deliberately jogged to an easy 2nd place before easily winning the Final, Shericka Jackson has been unbeaten in the 200m going back to the Rome DL of early June '22 - that's 19 wins from 20 races which includes 2 WC Golds & 5 of the Top 8 times in history!
to be honest it's not a competition in the 400m/400mh, syd will take it all if she feels like it.
@@kofirossi2184It'd be interesting to see how running 6 races across those 2 events at the same Global Champs would affect all 4 of those athletes individually.
@@kofirossi2184Everyone also basically said it was a foregone conclusion she was going to break the 400m record this year too but where was she all season? She’s a generational talent GOAT, but something went wrong this season and it’s not right to say athlete A only won because athlete B wasn’t there.
@@pete5691 Hope those ppl realise just how difficult the 400m is given that she came close (48.74) this season but didn't break Sanya's 48.70 US Record which is still a HUGE 1.11s away from breaking that fraudulent 47.60 'WR'.
@@AllInTheGame01 Most people do not realize how much distance a second is in the 400. Even at 60 second pace you are covering about 6 meters per second, at 50 second pace you are right at 8 meters per second on average.
Incredible year for Bol!
one of the greatest performances i have ever seen - unbelievable she could win after being that far back
The running form is crazy! She is so good
She is a great athlete and i am looking forward to see her at the Olympics.
She us simply the best forever plus she is charusmatic. I love her. We had Bolt and now Bol, I Hope she will win gold medals at Paris 2024
When you look at Femke’s 51.45 leaving her competition in the dust, you really come to appreciate how insane Mclaughlin’s 50.68s run truly was. Femke here looked flawless and so much better than others, that it makes it hard to imagine there’s a time out there that is still much faster.

Take a look at McLaughlin's world record of 50.68. Bol was 1.57 seconds behind her in that race.
The moment when Femke Bol falls at 7 minutes and 10 seconds. Femke later explained this to the Dutch camera: 'It also shows that I am only a human being and not a robot' Greetings from the Netherlands

She has a competitors heart, champion spirit. All the best to Femke, just out there doing her thing, what she loves to do, and does extremely well.👏🏾😃♥️
I'm impressed. She is so fast, wish I could be even close to that.
Reminds me of Ed Moses from the 80's, he was unbeaten for 9 years, 9 months and 9 days over 400m H.

Proud to be Dutch... :)
I ran the 400 in high school and college. At the time I thought I was good. What I saw here? I could never even be in the same stadium as this, this, this, MACHINE! I’m not saying she’s not human. I’m saying she’s a more evolved human than I will ever be.
She is very good.❤️.
She runs like a gazelle. So elegant.
As for the list of top 20 women's 400 m hurdles times, spare a thought for Yulia Pechonkina in spot 20. Shows how dominant the big three are in this event. I hope Sydney returns to full fitness. The showdown between bol and her would make for one hell of a race. Quite frankly, I think Bol has closed the gap and it could come down to the wire.
What an athlete !
Low arms, not bent too extreme. She's got great form and I'm glad to see her progress. Massive respect for her efforts and accomplishments!
And she did it all without taunting anyone, without airplane arms, wide open mouth, or fake telephone calls. Nice to watch a classy sprinter.

in total she lost 1 race this year, a 200 meter, while the day before she did win a 200 meter in a time that would have been enough to win that lost race too. so she could have been totally undefeated this season, but hey, cant blame her on losing a 200 meter, which she doesnt train for and has no experience on.

Curious if there are any other angles of her falling at 7:09
RIP KIPTUM, he was going to be the man to break the 2HR barrier
6:03 When you realize she is running against professional runners!
An oustanding athlete in any generation. You cannot underestimate the strength of a 400m hurdler when doing a relay leg. THis has happened many times before. Look at some of the USA 4x4 relay teams, you have have sprinters and 400 specialist, UK did it ith John Regis many years ago. BArring injury, Femke has amny years ahead of her - 400m hurdles world record (maybe) but not for at least a couple of years.
the similarity between Bol and Bolt cant be a coincedence
Sarcasm noted.
I’m a casual observer of track so how does Abby Steiner stack up against her? Or are they in two different worlds?
Probably interesting. Abby's better at 100, Bol at 400. At 200 it'd be close but I'd give it to Abby.
Wouldn't be close at all in the 200m given Abby's 21.77 PB to Femke's 22.88. While Abby has potential in the 400m having run a number of quick splits in 4x4 relays, she's strangely yet to run an official individual outdoor 400m race, whereas Femke has run 49.44 outdoors & could run sub 49s if she focused on the event. Femke's also the indoor 400m WR Holder with 49.26 (Abby has run 50.59 indoors).
@@AllInTheGame01
So my next question is will there come a situation where they will compete against each other?
@@brianboyle5934they may compete in relays. But those results would also have to consider the teammates. Femke is primarily a hurdler and Abby is a flat track runner. There is a chance they could compete against each other.
@@brianboyle5934 They could race each other in a one-off 400m race on the circuit as part of their early season prep but are unlikely to race each other in an individual event @WC/Olympics until they switch from their primary 200m/400mH events to the 400m full-time. They could potentially race each other in the 4x4 relay if they both run the same leg for their respective countries, but Femke typically runs the Anchor leg for NED while Syd (not Abby) runs the Anchor leg for USA.
Ik wil Bolletje ! ❤

Man of culture, gather around
Sadly, marathoner Kelvin Kiptum and his coach were killed when Kiptum lost control of his car and crashed into a tree on 09/11/24.
like a gazelle ... her form is like watching a gazelle in its natural environment effortlessly prancing to safety while the hunters scratch their heads.
The really crazy thing that nobody talks about is that Lieke Klaver ran the second leg at 48.74 while Bol's anchor leg was 48.80. Klaver's time was just a hair faster than Bol's. Without Klaver's amazing time the win would probably have been out of reach for Bol.
Bol can run way faster than 48.80(and than Klaver) so the win would not have been out of reach
@@francescostano4445 Klaver made up a lot of ground after the first leg. She closed up the gap that the Jamaicans had. Both her and Bol ran about 3 seconds faster than the ladies in the first and third leg. If Klaver hadn't closed that gap I am not sure Bol could have pulled it off. Ask yourself if Bol could have cut another 3 seconds off of her time,..I really doubt it.
@@stevenjeffrey4637 obviously not 3 seconds, she could have cut 1 second
Klaver ran a split of 48.78 and Bol ran 48.75, so they were really close this race.
(split times are from the World Athletics website btw, so these are the official ones)
Femke Bol has run a faster split before (48.52 in 2022) by the way.
The 4x400m is however a team effort and it takes 4 good runners to win gold at Worlds...
@@_MicZ_ Obviously we got different numbers from different sources. And you validate my point, nobody talks about the effort made by the other ladies,..just Bol because of her great anchor, especially when according to the numbers I have seen Klaver ran an equally fast leg (3 hundredths of a second whichever way you look at it). So my point isn't making it a competition about who ran the faster leg, it's the fact that Klaver should get every bit as much praise for running virtually the same time as Bol.
Hope she does the 400m & 400m hurdles double in Paris.
Schedule doesn’t fit both disciplines including heats and including 4x400 relays, which she wants to race as well (she is a real team player).
Her strong preference is 400 hurdles, so that for sure will be her choice and not 400 flat.
Those are not even her main events. She's a hurdles runner and fully dominates there lol
Plus she is Dutch and she is a babe 🤩
“Bol” runs like the legendary Usain “Bolt,” without the “t” (testosterone)
Sydney will retire just before Paris 2024. FB will smash the 400mH record soon. The indoor seacon 2024 will show her improvement. FB is the nicest face of whole world athletics.
"Smash"? Bahaha...you are dreaming. Sydney also has a personal best in the 400m which is 0.7s faster than Bol's best ever time...Sydney is the Queen.
@@telford32 A queen competes and wins races. Sydney in 2023 has not been even remotely a queen but a coward and a disgrace for the sport. She has been absent in 2023 .Sydney just gave up and just never even showed up for a face to face fight against the new queen. She chickened out. And that makes her pathetic and far from being any queen at all.
@@telford32 No favorable winds necessary bloke. The difference is now 0.77 second, and Bol's last improvement was 0.85 second. Furthermore Bol only changed her stride patern to 14 steps last winter, and Bol's technique with the rightleg jump is still not perfect, so technically there is still quite a bit to gain. I am not saying that it will happen (nobody knows that), but the potential is certainly there.
@@rientsdijkstra4266 I was referring to the open 400 which is 0.7, the 0.77 difference is in the 400mH...you need to keep you thoughts straight when arguing with me. Plus just copying your same comment from above is lazy.
@@telford32 The one not keeping his thoughts at the matter is YOU. The OC was speaking about 400mH, NOT the 400 open. And Femke Bol has clearly stated that she will NOT be competing on the 400 m open. So why the F*** are rambling on about the open, bloke? But hey, you want to talk about the open 400 meters, then lets do that! On that discipline Femke Bol actually has a WR (!) on the 400 m indoor, where earlier this year she smashed the 41 year old record (that is how strong it was...) by Jarmila Kratochvilova with no less then 0.33 seconds. And by the way that this same Jarmila Kratochvilova has a PB (which was also the WR before Marita Koch brought it down to 47.60..) of 47.99? that is just to put things into perspective. Sydney McLaughlin on the other had has not even been close to a WR on the 400 "open", with a PB of 48.74, which is still 1.14 from the WR on the 400 m flat outdoor....
