I'm a simple man... when I see that a new camera is released, I go to CZcams and find Gerald. It's that simple.
I usually watch all the Canadians first. :P (I'm from Europe, so no bias here)
Agree
I’m a bit different. I go to xhamster and find Geraldine.
I am still playing with the original Nikon Z6 shooting ProRes over HDMI on a Ninja V but I’m thinking of getting the Sony FX30 or FX3 (since Sony makes the video chip for both and I ASSUME the color science would be the same… ?) but I wonder which Sony would produce output similar to the Nikon Z6 or does a Ninja V for each make the moot???
I am simpler than you. I watch whatever CZcams suggested on new camera equipment. That’s why I am late to the party on commenting this video. This video shown up after I watched several Sony A6700 comparisons videos.
As always, the ONLY review of a new product you need to watch! Great job, Gerald and congratulations on the new addition to your family.
here is something you all should know about the Sony Fx30 i have this camera and done some tests doing video's and found out unlike other Camera's such as canon or Fuji.
But just simply setting your shutter speed to 60 or 120 or 240 for the sony Fx30 WILL NOT Avoid Flickering from lights, Like Banding from lights. you MUST use the (Anti-flicker Set)
from the menu to set the shutter angle to the correct number to stop the banding,
I shot at 4K-30P 4K-60P and 4K-120P And had to use specific shutter angles that i found that stop the banding, here is a short list of what worked for me for preventing Banding from LED lights Systems..
Shutter Angles to prevent Light Flickering..
for 120P use shutter angle at 239.9
for 60P use shutter angle at 119.9
for 30P use shutter angle at 59.95
now how i found out the numebrs was just looking at my monitor and test recording specific numbers and that was what i found, but i probably doubled the value
that i needed, which wouldn't make a difference because it's all synced in the correct cycles that the lights flicker..
But these values here below might be the correct ones to use..
30P use shutter angle 29.97
60P use shutter angle 59.94
120P use shutter angle 119.9
Notice the shutter angles values are what the frame rates are, well 60P is not 59.94 but when recording to the Ninja i believe that's what it's writing the video's frame rate to..
So when you set your Sony to 60p the ninja is actually recording at 59.94 not 60P, i believe that the Sony does write the videos' frame rate at 60p not 59.94 when recording internally.
So there is a bit of a Difference there not much but enough to notice a slight banding..
so what happen when you tested this camera Gerald? And Did you test it on the Ninja V or V+??
Any way those numbers up there worked for me incase some one needs to know.
Thanks for the review, as always! I know it's been a year, but congrats on the birth of your son!! As a parent of a 20 year old son and 17 year old daughter, I completely understand the challenges of juggling parenting and passion projects. I chose to set aside a career as a touring musician to be more present as a dad. So, thanks for making time for us and these videos!
Congrats on the new addition to the family and thank you for managing to put out another high-quality review 👏👏
Congrats on the baby! So happy for you guys.
Congrats Gerald with your newborn baby son! Enjoy the journey! My son is 8yo and he makes me smile everyday how much he’s learning and growing.
Thanks for the review of the FX30. Short, high quality, and to the point.
CONGRATULATIONS 🎊 to your new born!!! Thanks for taking a look at the rolling shutter. Great review.
Glad I found this channel. This review is right to the point and not overproduced. Subscribed.
3:46 Throwing shade to Sony for not including focus breathing comp for in A1 and A7s3. ✊
If anyone can get this pushed through it's you daddio!
Congratulations (belated) on the baby boy :) And thanks for these videos! I just found your channel - and I love how wholesome and authentic you are!
Congratulations for the newborn! Best wishes of health and prosperity to you and your family.
Congratulations on your new addition to your family!!
Congratulations on the baby boy!!! That’s beautiful to hear
Congratulations on the newest addition to your family. And thank you for putting this review together despite the challenges of being a new dad.
Congrats on the New Baby, I love your videos! This is a perfect second camera along side my FX3.
I am so glad you call out Sony for not having added Focus Breathing Compensation to the A7S III, FX3, and A1. All of those cameras should have it by now and it is so annoying that their higher tier cameras don't have it while budget cameras do. So dumb.
Isn't it obvious that the A7sIII and FX3 can't have focus breathing compensation due to only having 12MP? They would have to reduce the maximum resolution to something like 3.2k or less.
A1 should have it, tho.
Sorry, i have OCD…
it’s not the “FX III” (read FX mark three) it’s an FX3 (a mark one, currently) as opposed to the a7S III which os the third generation a7S, hence the mark three designation.
that is all. ill show myself out.
@@GabrielFFontes Doesn't the FX6 have it though? and that's the same sensor right?
@@GabrielFFontes The FX6 has the same sensor and got it in a firmware update
Not sure about the reasoning it cannot have it because of the 12MP issue, I'll leave that to others. However if it can, it should. Also shutter angle...come on Sony, add it.
Congrats on the baby! That’s so exciting!
Congratulations with your new family upgrade. Stellar review as always even though you might not get much sleep these days :)
Congratulations on the new baby Gerald :) The next chapter in your life has officially begun... Great review as always 👊
Congrats on the baby, Gerald. Life. Changing! :)
My son is just over 2 weeks old, and keeping up with photo/video work is... Well, I used to say things like "tiring" or "exhausting," but they don't feel applicable now. In any case, you look remarkably composed, and the video review is still top notch -- congrats and good work!
Congratulations Gerald! Being a dad is the absolute best 🔥 excited for you
Congratulations Gerald, you look incredibly well rested! It only gets better (and easier!) I promise. Best of luck!
Been back and forth regarding this camera for a while now. Thank you for the always convincing review :)
Congrats on the little one. Enjoy this and all times to come as much as possible. It's better than kicking yourself later for being too busy..
I think this is a very solid move by Sony and definitely going to sell out fast to the same general market the a7IV hit. Awesome review as always man!
congorats Gerald on the new little one! [oh..and lovely review as always]
Congrats on the baby boy! Great review as always.
Congratulations on the baby🎉
Congrats on becoming a dad, Gerald! I can relate to what you're saying concerning the creation of CZcams videos while growing into the role of a father as I'm facing the same challenge right now. But although it is very challenging, it is also the most rewarding thing in life, so make sure to enjoy it as much as you can! ❤️
Congratulations on the baby boy. 🎉 God bless you guys!
Congrats on the new baby!!!!
Congrats on the baby, Gerald JR. Is becoming UNDONE, it's Crazy!!!
Congratulations Gerald on the new baby!
Congratulations-don’t worry about us. Your content is always worth waiting for🎉🙏🏿✌🏿🙌🏿
Congrats on the new baby🎉👏👍
4:52 I like how Sony put the USB plug in front of the LCD.
CONGRATULATIONS on the birth of your son!!!!!!!! What a lucky kid to have such a cool dad.
First: Congratulations on your new addition!
2nd It's nice to see robust options for different budgets. I have the a7siii and I think I have a dead pixel in the evf. And I haven't had the camera for more than six months :/
This is almost a perfect camera for multi-cam setups where you don't want to spend too much but have a good clean image. I can also see this acting as a popular B-Cam for the A7S III, FX3 or a7 IV. In 6000 USD, you can get 2 of these and 1 of the a7 IV bodies. And use the lenses amongst them commonly. Thanks for the detailed review as always, Gerald :)
grat reviwe as always gerald! thanks for your time and quality
Congratulations on the baby, Gerald!!!
Mang, i'm so jelly of filmmakers today. Great APS-C for a great price! Love the review Gerald and I would love to own this FX30 soon.
The lack of video centric features, like shutter angle is so weird on these cameras.
Better go with Panasonic S5 for video-centric features in full frame body.
@@TackJorrance or just shoot in 25 frames instead of 24 like us europeans do hehe
Also, why do Sony's video centric cameras not have a 48 fps frame rate option.
@@KanishkGupta already am. 😊
Thank you for this review, and congratulations!!
Congratulations to you all on the baby boy, many things will change, but all of it worth it!
Excellent review, Gerald! And with a newborn... thank you.
Dude, I love the look of your studio. Great review as well!
I respect Sony for releasing products with their best tech at good prices. Not worried about not putting certain specs just to avoid “competing with their older models”
The review we all were really waiting for!
Gerald, great congratulations on new one in family! Wishing you nights of sleep. 💛🙏🏽
Congrats on the baby God bless you guys
Despite the actual reason for the video on the FX30.....a Big Congratulations to you and your amazing partner on the addition to the family. Yes, sleep will be an issue for a while, but your pride in the little one overcomes all. Please post a photo of the little one when you both are ready. I am expecting purple pajamas !
Thank you so much for this review, straight to the point, quick and intelligent!
Thanks for the Vlog test, really liking how the 11mm with active looks.
Awesome, Our baby boy should be here this Monday. Congrats Bro!
Congrats man!!! And thanks for doing the review!
Loved my a6500 back in the day...but that 34ms readout was BRUTAL. Great to see Sony willing to make an APS-C sensor with good rolling shutter.
I am still using my A6500 with sigma 56mm and 16mm. Should I upgrade to this ?
Camera Conspiracies is gonna have a field day with this one! Also, congrats on the new baby!
I love my full frame Sony cameras, but really interesting to see Sony bringing these features to an APSC body at an affordable price point!
The jelly effect on this is horrible 😅 I don’t see it justifying the price tbh
@@FilmTutorials The jell-o is real, but given the price and understanding it's limitations - I think for most people this will make a great camera. Wont notice the jell-o rolling shutter if you're filming talking heads, weddings, or pretty much anything without a lot of fast movement or whip pans. If you want less jelly, you'll have to spend more deli (cheese, deli cheese.. thats the best I could come up with)
Unfortunately, you can't shoot 35mm motion-picture format on the FX3 or A7S III in UHD. You get 1080p only; a deal-breaker for some. If those full-frame cameras had a UHD Super-35 crop mode, they'd be great. The FX30 doesn't suffer from the lack of Super-35 UHD, of course, but the rolling shutter is a deal-breaker. So... still no dice from any of these three cameras for video shooters who want proper cinema DOF and FOV.
Are there any issues or quality loss using full frame lenses on APSC Body?
@@enonymouscontent8671 No, in fact you'll get optimal quality because you're using the "sweet spot" in the middle of the glass. And no vignetting.
and congratulations on your new Baby!
Congratulation on the new BOY!!
Thank you for the detailed and friendly review of the FX30.
Congrats on the new baby you have! I won't complaint about the quality well actually your review is always 5/5. :D
Congrats on the new baby!!!!
Congrats with the baby! :)
Congrats gerald for being a father!!!! Keep doing what you!!
This was one of the first reviews I watched before I purchased my FX30. I love the colors I get shooting in S-Log3 and grading in Davinci Resolve, using the Color Space Transform.
I've been using this camera for video projects at my 9 to 5, but I'm going to use it on a professional gig next week. I love this camera. It's a major upgrade for me coming from the T7i.
Congratulations!! Mini Undone ❤️
Finally - this looks perfect for me. Thanks, Gerald!
Best review on this camera. You are the man!
so pumped for a camera review!!
Great review! Thank you for posting it. Also yeah new baby and continue with content creation is a wild ride. Congrats!
Congratulations!!! Another great review!!! Just started my tech review channel with my Sony A7IV and was a bit bummed when I saw this FX30 (I think FX2 would of been a better name lol) announced but I think I prefer full frame over apsc anyways but again great video!!!
I started my CZcams channel when my boy was born, when I watch those videos I realize I was just a sleep deprived man who was more documenting my decent into madness than camera reviews. You are still killing it. Congrats fatherhood is the best, until your kid tells you to stop taking pictures of them all the time.
I love how these cameras are video oriented, no viewfinder makes it so much cleaner especially if you plan on using an external monitor you can mount it on top and it’ll still look good.
I still shoot photos so I’m the future I’d love a fx3 and a separate camera for photos but for the meantime I think I’m going to try to buy a Sony a7siii
Great review, Gerald. Thanks for all your great work.
Congrats on the new baby boy!
For someone like me who had just upgraded to A7iv from a6500, and was thinking of liquidating APS-C glass, & getting a FX3 & slowly invest into FF glass- this might save me money now, as I will get the FX30, use it as a bcam, and save several thousands! I am stoked.
Congratulations Gerald!
Congratulations Gerald!!
Congrats on the new baby
Good review! Thank you for sharing. ✌️
Congrats on your baby!
Congrats on the baby boy!
Congrats on the kid Gerald!! Love the content....
Congrats on the new baby boy Gerald
I've been waiting for a camera JUST LIKE THIS for years! I still love my Lumix S5 and I've been using that for a project with my friends, but kind of in that train where I want something a little lighter, and I've always hoped Sony should give up something APS-C that can at least do 10-bit video. I WANT that amazing autofocus. I am gonna have to start saving for this.
Amazing Review sir well done!
Ha! Literally just watched the promotional video by Sony and I _knew_ you'd be on it. I understand the order of things, of course, and that you've been able to get hold on a camera prior to the release. I've been saving up for the FX-3 firmly focused on not buying anything else hardware wise until I can afford it. Now the FX30 is here, and I'll deep dive into your review as well as many upcoming videos and comparizons of these two cameras.
Congratulations 🎊🎈 on the baby boy.
Congrats on the little one. I realize I'm a little late, but happy 1st birthday(ish) Mini-Gerald!
My subscription inbox just exploded, watching Gerald's first!
Also, I am SO happy that there is some new life in Sony Crop. It was needed.
Ordered one! This will be perfekt for our steadycam rigg.
Literally got an email and was like let’s see if Gerald reviewed it. Opened CZcams BAM first video in my feed
congratulations on your baby!
congrats on fatherhood, gerald!! you've been my camera review dad since i got into this hobby. :D i hope you're getting some rest
Welcome to the world, Baby Undone!
I hope we'll see that new APS-C sensor in future cameras from them. (An APS-C sensor in an A7 or A9 series body would be really cool, I think.)
