I miss this feeling. I would absolutely hang onto any Joanna Russ books you find. Almost impossible to find in the wild. Female Man is her most well-known book. I'm reading her right now and she's an amazing writer. I would also personally keep Dr. Adder and the Lafferty books. He's also hard to find.

My house would be on Hoarders if I did that. At least if I sell them, I can say I am a keeper until they find their new forever home, and won't end up buried Alive. TBF it is really really hard to let some go when they sell.

@@B0BsBooks I suspect you'll find a copy. It was pretty popular at one time. Stewart is a good writer. He wrote a nonfiction book about the Donner Party, and a novel in the 1950s that presaged the dangers of climate change.

Russ's The Female Man is famous. Recommended Mid 70s feminist sf. Christopher Priest is an interesting writer, but I haven't read the one you found. Walter M. Miller is best known for A canticle for Leibowitz. Almost anything by Tom Disch is worth reading. Kin Stanley Robinson's The Memory of Whiteness is wonderful. A touring orchestra in the asteroid belt. R. A. Laferty is really good, and really collectable. A. E. van Vogt, pronounced close to somewhere between Voe and Vote, (as in election).

Your reaction was even better. It put a smile on my face. Thank you.
Of the authors you don't know. Lafferty is a genius - arch, humorous, and extremely right wing. Not to everybody's taste. You should at least try Kage Baker. Like the Yarbro/Daniels/Rice vampire in the past stories, these use a one-way time travelling android as a device to set speculative stories in history. They're a lot of fun. The two Joanna Russ books you showed are generally considered the height of feminist SF.

@@B0BsBooks I'm not saying they are not popular. Just rather blandly predictable with loads of shoe leather and dialogishness. I mean nothing astonishing. The pulp "Astounding" was called that for a reason. A collection of Roger Zelazny's short stories is a more modern example I guess. The silly styles from fantasy have crossed over into the science fiction octologies and we get soap operas. I can't get past the first chapter of so many. And then we get the most predictable derivative books like Ender's Game elevated to required reading in the high schools! Now THAT is Astounding. Oh well, read the Justina Robson 4 book set. It is astounding.
