I just wish Super could have copied the ssj4 and the tail lore and just called it SSJG Form. GT didnt forget the value of the tail.

Really liked your review man. You know I think GT can be best understood like this. TOEI wanted to continue dragon ball so they did by combining aspects of toriyamas earlier work with his later work and you get a really confusing story. Cause world ending stakes don’t mesh well together with lighthearted adventures
I never managed to make it through much of GT. But it will always be my head cannon that super saiyan is directly tied to the oozaru form, and taming that form to control its power (SS4) is the “true” super saiyan. And that SS1-SS3 are just the closest they can get without a tail.
Would have been even cooler to me if SSG and beyond required them to tame their inner chaotic nature from their oozaru side.

I don’t get super 17 getting the energy absorbing hands. The whole point with 19/20 was that they didn’t generate their own power, and subsequent androids could generate unlimited power. So why would he even need them?
GT is a series I watched pretty recently so my thoughts on it aren't going to be clouded in nostalgia. It's a fine series but in my opinion the worst of all Dragon Ball series. It doesn't do a lot of things super well and at times feels boring. Super 17 is one of, if not the worst Dragon Ball arc. If I'm to be honest the Baby saga is the only one I really liked with the Black Star Dragon Ball arc being my second favorite. The shadow dragon arc is my second least favorite arc with many of it's battles just being boring or just straight up bad. The only redeeming portion of that arc is the ending of it from my personal tastes. SSJ4 is a cool form I'll give them that though. Not my favorite but it is cool how it taps into saiyan history and the great oozaru form, seemingly mixing both great oozaru and super saiyan into one very powerful form. My other issue stems from the side characters, or lack there of them. Yes they show up but most of the show felt like "Goku Time" where everyone must rely on him to do everything for him. Would have loved to have seen the humans, Vegeta, and Trunks and Pan get more time to shine in a fight.
Kid Goku is fine but I think he should have been handled better. Goku should not have lost stamina, only power and reach. His stamina should be exactly the same but his issues should have stemmed from his shorter limbs and lesser strength thanks to his overall muscle mass being lower in his kid form. Trunks also could have had this chance to shine with him being more powerful than Goku while still learning from Goku's fighting abilities. Pan too could have been better but I thought her overall role was fine.
Music as well is also a let down with nothing memorable outside of the main theme which one of my favorites. I don't know why they didn't just stick to the Kikuchi score but it does hurt the series in my opinion. Music is a big part of a series and can really set the mood of certain scenes and moments so it being a letdown does hurt some scenes
Animation wise GT is also the worst. It has nice character art but most of the fights feel overly stiff and lacking in fluidity. I assume this is mostly due to the more detailed art and the loss of Studio Junio in the middle of the Buu arc in DBZ. Even Super has better animation despite it's art quality being less consistent and it having plenty of production issues very early on due to rushed episodes and animators getting no time to rest. Even then there are a few scenes early on that surpass anything DBGT had did animation wise.
Overall I still think GT is worth watching for any DB fan even with all my criticisms of it. Just like Super, it is heavily flawed but a fun watch still
GT felt like fans got a huge budget together and made it based on their fantasy for the best DragonBall x Z combination
That being said, kinda sad that GT isn't acknowledged as there are a lot of good ideas there
