This is an excellent essay. Interesting perspective on pride and humility regarding this character. Faramir’s humility and obedience opens him to greatness. A difficult message for me.

A good piece. I'll add one observation about Denethor: he may have been noble and capable but he was always arrogant, proud and jealous. He was very jealous of Aragorn Thorongil when they served Ecthelion together years before. I think he showed his true colours then.
Great video. Faramir is such a good character. I can't imagine the kind of pain someone would feel if their own father said they wish they had died instead of their brother. Truly heartbreaking...and Faramir didn't actually get to witness Denethor weeping over him. Even if he was told later that his Dad did care about him, it wouldn't be the same as hearing it from Denethor himself.
These are amazing and I have to say it feels these characters not only challenge men but humanity as a whole. As humans we’ve come so far but not far enough, by studying stories of all kinds from all cultures we gain more insight into what makes us as humans magical. Your channel is amazing please keep up the work.

This is one of the BEST videos I have seen of one of the most magnanimous fictional characters ever written (and an absolute favorite of mine)! Faramir is unceasingly inspiring to me and you're tribute to him is absolutely magnificent. What I loved most, however, was your connection between Tolkien and his Christianity. To me, this is the KEY element that sets his work apart and that, unfortunately , many people miss...when you mentioned Eru Illuvatar and explained that, in Tolkien's mind, He is the God of Christianity and it is faith IN HIM that empowers Faramir (and us 💖) to walk and act with hope in the face of overwhelming darkness...well, my heart leapt for joy, because it is true!!! 🙌 JESUS is our Hope, and this video was a beautiful reminder of that, which is the reason why I love Tolkien's brilliant, heartfelt work so much in the first place. So thank you! God bless you and keep up the GREAT work! PSALM 112 📖

Something I've thought of is, well, since the ring is more tempting to those with more power, that kinda says something about Faramir. He says he wasn't tempted by it. Either there was something about him which broke this rule, or he does not have as much power as we think he does.

Faramir and Denethor’s relationship was tragic. Denethor was a strange and bitter man who was prideful and arrogant thinking that the Orthanc stones would provide the truth of the future but he was misled because he misinterpreted the visions and fell to despair and self destruction. Crazy and disturbing, it was one of the ugliest and most compelling incidents in the entire story. That family and the complex humanity of their relationships and actions kept the stories from being too otherworldly as it would have been if everyone was faultless and perfect.
Denethor allowed his emotions to overtake his responsibility and honor and went downhill never redeeming himself. What sort of Steward kills himself instead of leading his people who depended on him? I’m happy Boromir was able to redeem himself by defending the Hobbits til his death and he was ashamed of being seduced by the ring.

Faramir? Nah, he sucks, Boromir's the real man. Loved by his men and Captain of Gondor! Took down thirty-five Orc strongholds all by himself! He'll make a fine Steward after me. Faramir can go show his quality as apprentice under that stupid Wizard!
Return of the King is such a mess of a movie. More akin to Diablo than to LoTR imo. So much nuance is completely missing and for what? Flashy action and sfx.
