I like it. Because, no distracting background music, just good fabrication and banter!
I love these videos. Just you talking while working. I will listen to these kind of videos while I’m working in the shop.
I'm an old guy and all you hear now a day's is about how all the skilled craftsmen are gone and nobody cares. You really put that myth to bed. Thanks, I really enjoyed that!
I’m glad to hear it, thanks for sharing
@@BillyLaneChoppers do you still have a shop where you do customers bikes? I went to your shop in Melbourne many years ago.
Great comment

I know it's not enough it takes years of experience and wrenching plenty of people will say negative things about MMI I also planning on going to college for
Mechanical engineering and specializing in Automotive I want to thank you for the inspiration to learn and get the basic foundation to start with appreciated all the chopper build you did on TV really did go to school because of you and Indian Larry
@@BillyLaneChoppersif I could I'd just spend days hanging out at your shop trying to learn.
I really want to build a bike because of your work
Billy, you can calmly explain everything so fluently!! You are the best guy to watch and listen to, hands down!!! Rock on OLD SCHOOL BROTHER!!
Thank you for the comment
Great comeback Billy. You’ve done a great job reinventing yourself. I mean that to be a compliment sir. Cheers.
I've been watching this guy for years, from biker build offs to content like this.. as a mechanic and a novice machinist, all I can say is max respect for Billy and for this job.. fixing something is one thing, but this is next level. Thanks for sharing your skills with us.
Thank you. I remember a time when I would have been intimidated to attempt a repair like this. But these cases were worth saving
@BillyLaneChoppers you're welcome sir. You payed me a large compliment by replying. I appreciate that. Keep building the coolest bikes out there ma . 👍👍👍
Brilliantly explained process. What a naturally great teacher you are. This is how a generation motivates the next. Inspiring 👏
Without having seen this video, I wouldn't have thought this was possible. Nice craftsmanship!!!
Billy you are definitely the Doctor Frankenstein of the motorcycle world brother. That was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait to see what you show us next unbelievable. You take care and stay safe my brother.
It is pretty damn cool to learn from my generations OG
I Frankenstein, is a movie I just viewed, blah… good God, such a blessed hand
"It's pronounced fränken schteen"!! "We're all lucky that Billy takes the time". Broke the mold when this kat was made.
I am a complete noob to machining, but man to see you explain the process and the tooling. I would have thought that was a total loss. What is this planet going to do when there are no more men left to do this kind of heavy lifting.... great work!
Who is gonna fill their Boots..if we are smart enough to ask it…speaking only for myself…It’s time to connect the dots of what I’ve been shown…and start mentoring what I know..to a Kid….there is a hunger out there for Skill set Knowledge….unfortunately it’s post 30 and pre 17…..The TikTokr will pay severely for a skill set they mock…or..rely on Socialist Marxist Gov to get it for free…🤷♂️FJB
Can't you leave your damn politics out of this. I watch this channel to learn and leave all the bullshit behind just like when I'm riding. My father was an aerospace machinist (Rocket Research) and watching Billy helps me understand what his life was like. @@user-se5zz3yj9c

Amazing work Billy! Your idea on keeping the castings bolted together really paid off! Every welder knows how hard it is to work on cast metals! I really hope the next generation takes heed to all your knowledge and your skills! Great job!!!
Enjoyed the video from start to finish! Being able to look over your shoulder and learn is really a highpoint in my day. Thanks!
Ditto dude
Billy these videos are a window into your world and its like watching a master at work.
Your knowledge and talent is seemingly endless and I for one am incredibly thankful to you for sharing your skills knowledge and artistry.
Excellent description…”welding is just a casting without a mold”… Nice….Cheers from Alaska AK49 👊🇺🇸👊
Over the years I've come to learn that this type of skill and level of experience has to come from a real craftsman.
Bro your really the man , I don’t know anyone who would consider doing that so confidently. I think it’s just awesome to see someone just in and is not scared to just go for it! Your a master craftsman for sure!
Billy you are a master craftsman. Thanks for bringing this one back from the grave.
Thank you Billy. I just started riding my trike in Dec 2023. In March of 2024 I got my leg infected due to diabetes. Got an amputation now on my leg and I'm in rehab for that currently. Watching your videos makes me feel like I'm riding again. Thank You so much my friend 💯
I can’t believe I just watched this,just amazing,he just knows his craft.
I remember watching Billy in biker build off yearssss back. Glad to see he’s still putting in work with the metal. always such a cool dude and amazing work 💪💪
You sir are equal parts artist, machinist, mechanic and mad man! Great work brother! 👍🏻👍🏻
Super cool another knucklehead on the road. Fantastic work
I left the chopper scene for many years and just came across this video. Glad to see you're still out here doing amazing work.
My guy, you ain’t lying! I’ve never built a bike, (I would love to) but builders like lane are who inspired me to metal fab, and build custom cars. It’s been around seven years since my last build considering that life got in the way, but after stumbling across a 67 mercury Monterey two door I think it’s time to start getting back into the hobby.. I didn’t know I how much I missed it, until I laid eyes on this beauty in the backyard of a house I was working on and didn’t even think the lady would say yes when I offered to buy it, but fortunately she did, and it will be named after her. “Debb”
Absolutely phenomenal. I watched this totally mesmerised. Incredible craftsmanship. ♠️😎
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together Billy! What an amazing process from a true craftsman. I can’t even imagine how much time you have in this repair, but that old knuckle being back together for another generation or two to appreciate is priceless!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Finally a guy with an engineering degree that knows how to build. Thank you for making this video
I have nothing but mad respect from me to you, Billy
Good job Billy Lane, you are a true Engineer!
Man, if I hadn't seen that with my own eyes, I wouldn't believe it! Those cases were junk! And you fixed that huge window in them, brought them back to life!!!
I have so much respect for people without the words "I can't" in their vocabulary. Nice job. Thanks for taking us along.
Great video! Concise explanations before the actual operation, no blah blah talk like some other other you-tubers. To bad there aren’t too many others that can do this type of work.
Thank you Dr. Lane for taking the time to making a detailed instructional video. Really nice work.
to build uo the casing on the engine was awsome, what a chalenge and the patience it takes to do so well done
Billy amazing repair! Great job and creativity
Practical skills never die, you can tap coarse emory sand paper stippling on fresh weld to get close to factory or rough diamond dremel tip. Thanks for taking the time to film,
Billy you are one of the most talented individuals I have ever seen. I've never seen anyone attempt to do that let alone make it come out looking as if it never happened you have skills that are very rare.
That blew my 76 year old mind that case could be welded and repaired. If it wasn't taped I would not have believed it.
Billy lane , master mechanic , your knowledge is amazing , you remind me of the professor's I watched work on patients , sir you are good
100% when you love what u do! Thank you for the video
any repair on that damaged casing will be done my a MAGICIAN with GODLY hands = well done sir !
Fantastic work, that’s another engine you’ve saved from the motorcycle graveyard!!
wow! As someone who knows nothing about mechanics or machining I can still appreciate this! A true master at your craft.
Brilliant stuff. So well narrated also. You always know when people really know what they’re talking about when you don’t get all the unnecessary bullshit. Nice one Billy 👌
Billy, I'm blown away by your craftsmanship, I was friggin hypnotized watching this magic happen. WOW!!
Patience, Persistence and Perseverance truly does pay off. Beautiful job Bill. Lots of hours work but the end result I think is worth the effort. Me I really appreciate the ideal that if someone made it in the first place, it can be repaired. Period!
No words man. You are the real deal. Watching you do this stuff still blows me away, and I've been following ya since the build off day. Amazing talent.
Thank you. After 3.5+ decades, I’ve gained some experience. I appreciate you watching
He bill yoer choppers are they lod
Incredible - the skill and talent to pull that off blows me away
I lost my dad 1 week ago. . . He was an mod engineer and watching your video brought back great memories of watching his work just like you. I have great respect for engineers . . .the time , effort and years of experience and knowledge is too overlooked for those who say "can you just do this " or " why is it taking so long" or "how much ? " beautiful work billy.
Thank you for sharing this, I’m glad it made you think of your dad

Wow, the skill set and having the right tools, equipment , and most of all knowledge. Just amazing how you do this . Saved another classic .
Incredible work and talent!! Nice job Billy!
Every choice was quite clever. The machining seemed clunky but it is seemingly solid. Great techniques to put that Knuck back into service. Bravo.
Keeping these old girls alive
This is like watching a doctor operating on a patient with the utmost patience using the knowledge of a master that is only granted to one through time. Paging Dr. Lane. Awesome video dude, thanks.
We are impressed. Your depth of skills seems amazing. I wonder how many people looked at that engine and kept walking?
This is like therapeutic for me, just raw n no music and best of all is seeing a living legend working at its best, thanks billy
That’s one excellent repair, great video, I was always told cases were never repairable, you’ve definately proved everyone wrong. Gotta find right person. !!!
As an 19 year old I landed my first real job at Bethlehem steel company. After awhile of being brutalized into the trades I was assigned light duty work maintaining a stress relief machine way out in the giant machine shop where they machine ship propeller shafts. Using induction coils they would heat the screw end and relieve the stress and arc weld and fill the grooves . They would gantry the shafts to a huge lathe and turn the shaft down to smooth and re machine for prop placement. I loved to watch the blue coils peel off onto the floor as I smoked a joint. I love to watch you work the impossible as well. By the way, I’m 64 now.
The world we live in now can’t even imagine what we went through as apprentices. Ha ha. Smitty
Amazed by your work. I just saw you Jessie, and Paul Senior are going to do a show together. I look forward to becoming a member. If I had to summarize your philosophies, it would be this- The three of y’all are tasked with building a bracket. Billy jumps in the dumpster, finds a piece of metal and says I can make this work, massages the metal and does so. Jessie says I will forge it from scratch and does so. Paul Senior says let me call XXXXXX company. He owes us a favor. We will get him to build the bracket. And he does so. In the 321. Remember your shop on US-1. Thanks for doing us proud! 👍
Enjoying my first cup of coffee and watching the master at work restoring the knucklehead cases. Good stuff! Thanks!
I would hope no one doubts your metal working abilities. You are one of the best in the world.
Man Billy, we have missed you on TV sharing your knowledge of motorcycles and how they work. Wish they would put you back on TV, until then thanks and God bless you my friend!!!!!!!
Very cool, great job and thanks for sharing your skills. Later
Billy ive never seen anyone operate a Bridgeport like you. You're an old school machine master!
I'm so glad you made it back to the motorcycle industry Billy been following you since Biker Buildoff
I’ve learned more from your genius and superb craftsmanship than other builder! Thank you sir for sharing you knowledge and super talent! Your my hero dude !!!!!
Kick-ass as usual. Loved seeing you work back in the day when Indian Larry was still around.
Billy you’re a Dr. and an artist.
I've watched this several times over the months. Love to watch a master craftsman do the impossible. Love it. I've been a fan of Billy for years
Damn Billy, you are gifted. That Knuckle you can't even tell.I wish I lived near your shop .Great vidieo I enjoyed it.
Billy and Larry are on another level of skill and ingenuity that are an artform of vision that so rare!!! Godspeed Billy, RIP Larry, bikeriders of the highest level!!!!!
MR LANE you are a GREAT CRAFTSMAN AND TO ME YOU BUILD THE MOST BAD ASS MACHINES OF ALL BUILDERS
nothing short of amazing! love the innovation and "never a job to big enough" attitude! you truly are talented and hardworking person Billy! too sad that this generation is loosing this.. keep on inspiring!.
That was a phenomenal displacement of a art , welding , and machines at work. After all these years it's obvious the love you have for bikes and what you do..
It's pretty amazing to get watch you work and explain every detail. I am not a machines . But pretty sure your the only one that could pull that off. God Bless man and keep up the good work
Billy, you are the man! I will work for you, for free, any day and time just to learn from you! Learned a ton watching this video! Thank you!
Great GREAT video showing a master class level of expertise. As much as watching you work is educational, your detailed explanation is profoundly enlightening. "This is a casting. And welding is just casting done without a mold."
Very cool! Very impressive! An example of why we need to encourage young people to embrace the trades. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Man i love watching a master at his craft doing what he does!
Huge Flex Bro..... Always a pleasure to watch someone do what I would have thought was the impossible.
Amaaaaaazing work Mr. Lane and that's why YOU make the big bucks!!!!
Thank you for saving a great part of motorcycle history.
Keep up the good work I love seeing the old come back.
Amazing work. Currently rebuilding my 99 Dyna after a close encounter with an 18-wheeler. Inspiring to watch a legend like Billy Lane take what is usually scrap and resurrect the legendary Harley-Davidson Knucklehead.
You are truly an artist who took a problem. Solved it and made a better product for your efforts Incredible.😊😊😊
Thank you, that is very nice to read
Truly a great mix of being an artist and engineer.
Awesome craftmanship Billy.
Wow! I had no idea if that was even repairable, but the way you did it was amazing. I'm not a machinist; just very interested in how it's done; I watch a lot of machine work videos where you can always learn something.
I loved every second of this video! Billy you are an inspiration!!!!!!
Great repair! I never repaired a cracked case, but that i exactly the same technique i would of used.
You make Mike Rowe proud. Love watching a Master work. Thank you for sharing your gift & knowledge of HD machinery.
That was absolutely an entrancing video. Watched it several times
My hats off to you Sir, that repair was stellar. Yes patching is one thing, making it better / stronger than original is another,
10 seconds into the video and I already know why there isn't any of those in the junks anymore. The answer is (during my lifetime anyway) because there never was any and if their ever was I'm sure it sold for $$$$$. Used Harley's (and used parts) fall into the same category as Corvettes and Porsche's. Everyone thinks what they are selling is somehow more special than any other (sometimes it is) and they want way, way, way to much money for what they have. I seen a AMF sportster that was literally in box's with missing parts and it was like $5000.00. Insane. Love the channel Billy
Really incredible! What a great job in saving a piece of the past.
I've done heavy construction most of my life and nothing in shop impresses me more than a great welder it's such a fine art requires a keen eye and steady hand. Much respect beautiful work.
Thank you, that means a lot to me. I’m actually mainly a machinist, and a welder second.
@BillyLaneChoppers And dude I was a teenager in the 90s I remember when I saw that chopper with the hub less rear tire it was just bad ass. The 90s was the best time to grow up today is just a shadow if that. Anyway be safe and again impressive work.
Unbelievable Billy. Great work. Ida looked that over and passed on it immediately.
Dude !!! Your skill set & knowledge are unmatched !
Been watching your work for years, your one of the best Billy 👍
Love watching a true master do his craft.
There’s only one Bill Lane! Not a fad or a fashion - just authentic
That's awesome you can rebuild a case like that by hand.
Honestly, while I know most people wouldn't like it, I personally liked before it was touched up and made to look like nothing happened. To me, the build up aluminum for the fix tells a story, shows a different side of excellent craftsmanship, and shows just what can be done to bring an engine back to life. It's kind of like the wabi-sabi.
You're one hell of an artist either way, sir.
some people have skills that need to be passed on to the next generation before they are gone ! love your work billy
@@johnathangoldsworthy thank you, & I agree with you
Is so cool seeing you still at it, I grew up in a house full of enthusiasts we used to watch you on the build offs!
This is the shit they never would show on discovery. This is great !
Thank you for the video and education. Another successful resurrection. Great job, great job.👍
