    I had a similar problem you had with my rad mini 4. It didn't want to shift into 6th gear. Always trying to jump out of gear. I found that adjusting the derailleur cable tension slightly corrected this perfectly. A small adjustment nut where cable meets derailleur. 3 or four clicks one way or the other should do it.

    I'm surprised that it was that easy to get the original motor out, with some of the 'horror stories' I've read. A lot of folks have said to liberally lubricate the nylon gears with Lithium Grease (some even pack a load of grease inside the case), but I don't know how essential that would be. The original motor looked very clean and the gears did not appear to be worn down (probably has a lot to do with how 'rough' a person is in their riding style). This has encouraged me to think more seriously about making the swap myself - Thank You, Sir! :)

    • @CitizenCycle925
      @CitizenCycle925  Před 4 lety +1

      Both motors came out and went in smoothly, it was pretty easy. if i were to do it again, i would add some grease, good point i didn't think of that, but i'm not super hard on my motors, the original one did still look pretty good. i wouldn't hesitate to do another swap in the future, you could surely handle it :)

    Good information. More on the freewheel. I also have the 2018 RR. I thought I had a 11 tooth on the smallest freewheel gear, as I read on a forum. But counted just now to be a 14 tooth, like what you have and what was sent to you. I went to the RPB site and it shows a 11 tooth for the newer model. Must have changed it at some point. Maybe because I suggested they go with a larger chainring, ( increased mine to the 48T) and a smaller 11t on the rear freewheel. I don't care about the "megarange" gear because I never need to shift gears, I never go slow enough, not even on hills.

    Taking the rear wheel off and on gets MUCH easier. I can do it with my eyes closed now, but at first it was scarey hard b/c the assemblers at Juiced Bikes in China installed my rear wheel totally wrong, so my torque sensor wasn't even working.

    Great video. The screws are called Torx security screws AKA star screws or bolts. I am certainly anxious to see the test results. But with the different freewheel especially since it didn’t have the lower first gear, I’m not sure how to take the results. Perhaps the speed results and resulting current draw may show something. Thx again. This video is really helpful.

    • @CitizenCycle925
      @CitizenCycle925  Před 4 lety

      when i do the speed tests i do them with the throttle only, so the different freewheel shouldn't affect anything there since i'm not pedaling. as for daily riding and the power/torque feeling when pedaling i suppose it could affect that. will be interesting to see what performance gains i get from these upgrades. glad you found the video helpful and thank you for watching and commenting. :)

    Hi there, I am from Vancouver Canada and have been following your channel for a little while.
    I was trying to buy a radrunner plus from Seattle and bring it back to Canada since the Canadian laws are stricter than u.s. and only allow 500 watt motor Max. Hence the local dealer near me only sells to 500 watt a 500 watt version.
    Then in one of your videos you mentioned that you suspected the US version is not a true 750w motor. Then it got me thinking that the same Factory is really only making one model and programming the controller differently for each country.
    Based on the images seen in your motor swap where you had the two Motors side by side it is clear that the stock motor that came with rad is not a true 750 w.
    Based on information from your videos I decided to buy the bike locally and to upgrade the motor and battery at a later date.
    Though I don't even have the bike yet I do enjoy watching all your videos.
    Somewhat related, I commute daily on a 2000 watt electric unicycle with a 1600 watt hour battery. Too bad they don't have the same size motor and battery kits for the rad :-)

    Thing-is about Rad is that you get a lot of bike for a low price but for another thousand dollars (& up) other bikes are everything the Rads aren't, bigger batteries, better brakes, more powerful motors and controllers... I just got one with a Bafang Ultra mid-drive motor, actually the most powerful motor available on a production bicycle and that's immediatly obvious when you ride it, another from the same company which I get in a couple of weeks is a Juiced Scrambler clone with a REAL Bafang 1,000 watt nominal hub motor, time will tell with that one but has a good reputation btw subscribed 🤗

Turn 1\4 turn increments in one direction to start with until gear doesnt jump anymore but if it gets worst turn back adjusting screw to original position and turn screw in other direction with 1\4 turn increments until it doesnt jump .If that doesnt fix it there's another problem . Also was the new freewheel first gear easier or harder to pedal because on a stock Rover first gear has 34 teeth the new first gear has how many teeth ?Thanks for the video

    check your hanger for the derailleur. It is easy to bend. make sure it hangs straight. Bending it usually screws up one gear. It has a guard to keep it from bending. The guard should not touch it. After you bump it a few times it will touch, then any bump will bend the derailleur.

      i wear a Citizen's Eco-Drive watch, (very fitting right..) not sure on the model number but i've owned it for about 10 years now and its still going strong. i wear it everyday of my life no matter what i'm doing. the thing has been virtually indestructible! love it to death! my bracelet is about 5 yrs old, it has no markings on it of any kind, not sure what brand, i just went into a jewelry store and told them i wanted a really wide bracelet that looked like a watch band, we picked one out of their catalog and ordered it. was cheap, like $150. i should have bought 2 in case anything happens to this one. i knew it was a matter of time before someone noticed those and commented :) you are observant.

    Derailer just needs to be adjusted via the barrel adjustment screw going into the it at the end of the cable. Simply flip it over, put it into third gear and rotate it until it's in line and not noisy.

    I couldn't find a "results video". Did upgrading the motor improve the performance?
    In theory the bigger motor has more rotor windings and thus should provide more torque (assuming the controller can provide additional current). More torque should equal better acceleration.

    Thanks for posting this video. My 750w Bafang from Bolton is arriving today, I added the 35A controller about a month ago. They implied it was super easy to swap out, but now I'm guessing if I want to use the existing freewheel with the new motor I will need the special tool to remove it.... I'm not sure if the new motor comes with a new flywheel, but I don't think so.

      52T. Chainring will give you better top speed, but the bike will not climb as well. It also may cause the motor to heat up. But yes you will definitely get a higher top speed.

    Nice video. Two questions; are you convinced both motors are 750’s and have you determined if there is significant difference between the “freewheel’s”? It would be good to know if the stock motor is being mis-represented and whether the difference in the freewheel gears caused the 3rd gear jumping.

I'm in the middle of completely rebuilding a Rover 5 I bought for $200, that died in Hurricane Ian almost 2 years ago. The only 2 salvageable parts are the frame and the rear wheel, the motor is done. I was just gonna use my original Rover motor I saved when I did my upgrade, but this video reminds me how wimpy it is. Gonna buy the real 750.
