- Building small terrain with cliffs and water effects using foam, toilet paper, PVA glue, and cheap acrylic paints. The scale of this terrain piece makes it ideal for forced perspective dioramas with 1/72 or 1/144 aircraft flying overhead. The scale of the terrain itself is approximately 1:2000, which means the viewer gets a great impression of height when looking down at a larger scale model and then the smaller terrain below that.
I've used a similar technique to this in previous dioramas:

Spitfire & He 111 diorama: • Battle of Britain dior...

This is how you do How To videos. No silly CZcams back ground music just straight forward narration. thank you.
Thank you - I'm glad you enjoyed it and appreciate the feedback
God, I could listen to him talk all day. Such a soothing calm voice and aura
Thanks
Exactly how I pictured an English cliff on the ocean for my seaside cottage!! Thank you for this awesome tutorial!!!!
Thank you! :)
Wow. I always thought about making a dio with fighter crashing into the ocean. Great stuff.
Thank you Mike. I'm going to do a flying diorama with the Beacon Models set I reviewed in the last video, but this technique would work just as well for a crashed aircraft.
Looking brilliant, looking forward to seeing the planes over it
Thanks mate
Thanks, MN....great to see how this all came together and the result is terrific....a piece of England in miniature! Just goes to show how using everyday items can create something historical....who knew toilet paper could be so versatile :)
Yep, this is defimitely one of my favourite terrain techniques :)
Very convincing result. Once I will try this in a diorama myself. Nice How To👍
Thank you mate - glad you enjoyed it.
Looks amazing, i really need to try and do a big scale one for my British Navy Vessels i made , am glad this is a how to video, Look forward to see the Spitfire and Bf 109 having a dogfight on it
Thanks Calum. I'd love to see this done on a larger scale.
@@ModelNerd always has been my intention to do it as i have the Ark Royal, Belfast, Hood, Prince of Wales and Invincible all sitting waiting to hit water, just never have the time or the workspace but i will do it, sadly have nowhere near your skill level but will try
It's all about the fun you have doing it, mate.
Another extraordinary video. Really helpful. Keep it up my friend.
Thanks mate, I'm glad you liked it
This is a nice result and way of making water! Nevertheless, for me, the tinfoil technique is superior because the shape of the waves can be represented more realistically, even in this small scale :)
Yes, I like the foil technique too
*Cheap price for a really nice result, well done MN!*
Thanks! 👍
Looks great. Battle of Britain diorama coming?
Oh yeah! This weekend :)
So, I guess my airfield idea is out of the window? Nevertheless, very nice work! And you were right to correct the colors - the last time I was at the Dover cliffs I didn't see neither a sandy beach, nor turquoise waters - but I may be mistaken, it was in '79 😁
Hehe, not out the window per se - I still have the dispersal set :)
Nice work looks great, love these how to video's, thanks for sharing.
Thanks John👍
Some great tips there mate, nice one 😉👍
Thanks Tim. The aircraft will be added in this weekends video :)
You mean to tell me you can do water effect without 5 gallons of deep pour resin, 15 different water effect products and 5 snow products? 😂 looks good and anyone can do. I also like the aluminum foil method.. I watch this one guy and that’s all he uses and looks more realistic than any resin pour. Looks good mate!
Thanks mate. Yes, I think I knkw the guy that you mean - some great videos.
Great video and really nice work, thanks a lot for this
Thank you!
Looks cool
Thanks mate
Given me an idea now . Will be giving this ago . 👍
Excellent - have fun!
Very awesome
Thank you!
Aircraft will be cool mate!!
All filmed and ready to go later this week :)
Very good.
Thank you Steve
Great tutorial mate ❤😊
Thanks Michael - glad you enjoyed it. They'll be some aircraft flying over it real soon :)
I've decided to mount a model in a picture freame and I'm gonna try tour techniques for this. Probably gonna make a simple tiled airfield with some static grass. Where'd you get the pink foam?
The foam was from Amazon, from a seller called ProWarm. They do a variety of thicknesses.
@@ModelNerd Madlad, thank you!
Hi, I was wondering: during the end shots there were a couple spots where it looked like the TP base had peeled up from the edge of the frame. Is this something that tends to happen over time with this method? If so, is there a way to stop or slow it from happening? Thanks! Enjoyed the video!
Hi, thanks for watching. It probably just dried that way in the first place and I didn't notice it.
@@ModelNerd Great, thanks for the info!
🤝👍👏
Hi MN, I think I know what dio this might be for. I'm looking forward to the scene. That's a very nice technique for the water.
Thanks Michael. Yes, you're probably right - Battle of Britain on its way 🙂
