I'm new to street fighter in general but I have a question, are there no good defensive options in sfv? Everyone is rushing each other down and I know Gulie is kind of a defensive character, so I'm lost as to why Daigo is just running at Mena.
No, there aren't reliable defensive options in this game. And Daigo is not exactly rushing all the time. When he can put pressure he goes in, otherwise stays away. Mena finds his way in consistently though.
Your best defensive option is anti-air, but that can easily lose out to adjustments from the opponents jump in game. V-Revesals are your other option but they cost you a v bar and you can typically only build 4 of those per round. Some characters do have an invincible reversal or moves with armor, but others just don't really have those answers.
I will admit that offense is prevalent in most matches, but good defense is still valuable to any player. Defence in a game like this is to quell offensive pressure and control the match until it is "your turn" to go off. If you're new my advice to you is find a character you love, learn all of their options, learn their offense, their defense, their gimmicks, and their links and begin to play and find where defense is necessary and when the offense is applied.

People need to get over the teagbag that MenaRD did. Daigo has been well over it and so should his fanboys. Come to think of it he probably never cared about Mena's teabag and this match only goes to show it wasn't a fluke. It's okay to love Daigo and also not be on his jock 24/7, he's still a great player but Mena has his number and that cannot be denied.
Daigo hasn't had any noteworthy tournament presence for years. Mena RD is just another young idiot coming in waving his dick about. The reason he can do that now is because no one's going to beat his ass after the match. Besides, tea bagging? There are so much better pop offs.
Tea-bagging isn't a big deal and it doesn't make you an idiot ether. Nevertheless MenaRD won Capcom Cup 2017 with Birdie fair and square and Daigo still made Top 8 at Capcom Cup and beat Nemo who finished 3rd. Not saying you have to like him but he beat the best of the best.

it's not that easy. A friend of mine plays birdie and I swear to god they have a sixth sense for when to throw that move out. Look at grand final, Tokido got hit by it almost every time.

I try not to be superstitious but... I see Daigo win a lot when he's being commentated by F-Word and others. But around 90% of the time James and David commentate him, throughout the years, he loses. Anyone else noticed that?
