I get more enemy than frenemy in how Chris treats Ryotaro, mocking his accent and English at times. It veers into nastiness. They may actually be good friends, and have been making these videos for ages, but I actually dislike the on camera dynamic a bit.

That's actually incorrect, in the US we spend less money to get more portions, Japan spends 13.5 of their income on food while the US spends 6.5, but yes our food is typically lower quality and more calories.

There is a good German term for "umami" : "herzhaft" ('hearty', but actually 'savoury'). A "herzhaftes FrĂŒhstĂŒck" (savoury breakfast) describes a breakfast with all the good stuff: cheese, bacon, meat, tried tomatoes. All the common ingredients and dishes that have glutamic acid.
Gotta love these seaside Japanese markets. No scams, no haggling; just honest, friendly vendors, fresh seafood, and chocolate bananas.

Most food vendors don't haggle. Only people who sell souvenirs, clothes etc. haggle and scam people.

Weather and natural phenomena are insane right now. Not quite as bad, but it's currently snowing in southeast Texas, with rolling power outages. That being said, even as my butt is freezing, I hope Japan is safe with that earthquake.
My mother wanted me to put a comment for videos to do, so here I am.

Okay but chocolate bananas are so underrated. I'm sorry you got the pink one, the regular (brown) chocolate banana, nevertheless, was the highlight of my first trip in Japan 4 years ago.
Got in in Kyoto during gion matsuri, feels bizarre looking back at that day and the crowd in the current situation (social distancing and all). The place was packed, such a great mood - and a great moment for a sweet, cold and crispy chocolate banana.
When Japan opens and I can see my wife again, I want to take her here.
